well other than watching the usual shows like Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, and to me Yu Yu Hakusho, that many people watch as a child and never recognize as anime, I started while looking at Hulu really bored one day. I saw School Rumble and went "huh...thats japanese i think..." I had no idea what i was getting into. though i got out of it and got back in after watching Oreimo. Nyaing!

I started with Haruhi Suzumiya when I was 13, but I was more casually watching it and not taking it very seriously. When I saw Angel Beats that had a major impact on me and now anime is 90% of what I watch.

When I was a kid I would stay up late without my parents' permission and watch Adult Swim's anime line-up in bed, and everything took off from there, however I only just recently got into buying/collecting anime products other than the DBZ and Slayers VHSs I got when I was younger.

I started when I saw sailor moon and CardCaptors as a kid, though back then I didn't know the difference between anime and other cartoons then I moved to Gundam Wing and the anime on Adult Swim and everything went from there

Well, like I mentioned on the other thread on JDR. My dad always put anime on for me at a really young age. I'm coming up on 20 years of watching anime.

I have been watching anime my whole life it's basically all i watched as a kid besides the cop shows like Law and Order, and CSI that my parents used to watch. I would watch Toonami whenever it was on and then against my parents rules I would stay up all night and watch all the anime that was on Adult Swim. But the one that got me hooked was Eureka Seven eventually I stopped staying up and watching adult swim every night. And then about one or two years later I thought of some random scene from Eureka Seven and wound up looking all over to figure out what the show was called. Then I finally found just some random site that had it and stayed up that whole night and watched every episode in one go. And that is what got me restarted and hooked on anime.

For me it started with Rurouni Kenshin like 7 years ago. (obviously pokemon DBZ and some others before that). Back then i didnt watch anything else though. Then on Spor's forum they opened an anime thread and i was bragging like ''HA i have seen Rurouni Kenshin''. Ovyda, Spor and few others started recommending things to me and i started watching weeklys in the season that Blue Exorcist and Deadman Wonderland were airing. I enjoyed those 2 ALOT so i stuck with watching anime.

Tho i had watched several animes before i'd have to say it was watching Blood: The Last Vampire at 4 in the morning on late night terrestrial TV back when i was in my teens that really hooked me. Before that the animes i had seen were things like Pokemon and DBZ and weren't all that distinguishable from western cartoons for me at a young age but then i saw Blood and it was so visceral and different from anything i had seen before that i just had to find more stuff like it.

My buddy in highschool showed me some Manga in the library. Needless to say I spent the remainder of my highschool years there. But anime really took off for me once I watched Code Geass. To this day I have rewatched the series a total of 10 times.

I would like to say, other than the norm anime that kids watched, it would have had to be inuyasha and FMA. My friend showed them to me when i was 10 and after that i just couldn't get enough. i started reading manga, buying PVC figures, and such and have been hooked for 6 years!

I honestly don't know why. I think I just got fed up watching current cartoons and started watching some of the old ones I saw on Toonami. From there I realized quite a few came from Japan and then a chain reaction.

Ahh, I love telling this story, and it makes it better because it's also how I found this community. :)

An online friend of mine I talk to on Xbox was very anti-anime, believing it to be corrupting the minds of children, etc. One day, months before I watched my first anime, friends of his convinced him to start watching anime. I was also quite anti-anime too, until November 2011, that same friend begged me to watch an anime called, "Kissxsis," so he could get a good laugh out of my reaction. I watched it all through, the OVA and the TV series, so it was my first anime, and boy, was I uncomfortable with it! He got his comedic value too, the bastard. :p

Christmas, the same year, my mom got streaming Netflix for the house, and I was able to use it on my Xbox. Then, another online friend told me to watch an anime called, "Soul Eater," which his gamertag was named after, so I watched and finished it on Netflix in four days straight. I was still quite anti-anime then, so I was completely bashing the fan service in Soul Eater (I didn't even know the term "fan service" at the time), but other than that, the show definitely got my positive vote.

During the summer after my graduation, July 2012, my online friends were begging me for two weeks straight to watch "Rosario + Vampire," but I was quite keen on staying out of anime in general, and I was afraid my mom would say something if I went to watch fan service on Netflix. I finally gave in and watched it with them, still afraid I would get lectured, but after breaking my comfort zone with that anime, I finally considered myself an anime watcher.

Immediately after we finished Rosario + Vampire, the same friend who showed me Kissxsis told me to watch and anime called, "Heaven's Lost Property." I said I would, but it took him a few hours to find a dub for it, which he finally did, and it just so happened to be on a site called, "Just Dubs!" That anime is by far one of my favorites, since I had to blow my nose frequently from laughing so hard! My anime watching pretty much kicked off from there, and I was an avid user of Just Dubs before it got shut down. When I found out they had a Facebook page, I started following it, and then transferred over to Dubtopian-Review to be finding myself  joining the community right when the review site was launched. I'm glad I found this community, and I've already met people who've been around since Dubbinz, so I already know I belong here. :)

Well, that's my long, and hilarious story of how I got into anime, and I don't intend to stop watching! I hope to see more funny stories soon, so post away!

Well actually my friends did talk about it a fair bit especially when they got into fairy tale, but I didn't really take any notice of it when they asked my why I wasn't into anime. Back then aside from what they showed on TV, (Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh) I wasn't really into it. But then I got a recommendation in my youtube, and with no specific interests at the time and no motivation to attempt the watch later list, I decided to give it a go.

The first anime I watched (Spice & Wolf) wasn't the most action packed or exciting, but I couldn't help watching one episode after the other. It wasn't long after that I was finished and another anime came up in my recommendations.
Date A Live! This was my second anime and it was pretty close to my last. I experienced some of the worst internet problems. The window didn't open the first time, and when it finally did I got lag [SERIOUS LAG]. Now for those of you who have seen the first episode of Date A Live could probably imagine what serious lag would be doing to you, it's worst when you are starting to get into anime. I was pretty confused and gave up for that day, but after a little while with again no other interests on youtube I re-watched the first episode a lot less lag, but was still confused. However after re-watching the first episode of spice and wolf again I realized that it might have been one of those things were everything develops more into the episodes. So I watched episode 2 to 4 that day and got into it pretty well. After that I had the start of the weekend and got up to the last 4 episodes. I was in a fair bit of suspense, I watched the last episodes of it during the end of the weekend and I became hooked on anime. After that though finding something just as good (or better if thats possible:D) was hard, but I became determined. Then I found this anime website and I steamed away all my internet:( Luck I had a recovery package at the time;)

Anime has been awesome ever since then:arisu:
