La vite è bella. Life is beautiful. Or is it?

Most of the world had become so technologically advanced that majority of the population had virtually given up their fears of nothing ever going wrong again, everyone relied on the machines to do everything. Most illnesses had appeared to be eradicated and famine was in the past. Of course, there still were the few countries that held out and decided against relying on machinery to do the dirty work.

The year is 2058 and the majority of the technologically advanced countries had merged together to become one huge peaceful superpower they called Estium. Everything seemed to be going perfectly, no wars, no disease, no shortages on anything. There wasn't a major need for politics anymore since the machines were taking care of everything. But, each city state had their own figure head in place just for tradition's sake. Just like Estium had their technology and machines, most of the remaining countries came together to form the sister superpower known as Etris. This country seemed to be more focused on the traditional way of living with citizens still doing most of their work by hand. This by no means meant that Etris wasn't technologically advanced, instead they were just a bit behind Estium on terms of letting everything done by machines. Both countries worked along side each other, balanced each other out and managed to keep the peace. Until one day, an old forgotten country known as Urseos sprung a surprise attack on Etris.

Three years later and Etris has fallen and ended up in a dictatorship under Urseos and war rages on between the Etrisians and Urseosians. Not knowing what to do, Estium had closed their borders and cut off most communication with Etris. Due to the closing of their borders, some Etrisians are stuck in Estium and vice versa.

This is where you come in. Will you be an Etrisian and fight for your oppressed country or push to try to get Estuim to break their silence? Will you be an Estian confused about what to do, but still want to work towards the national decree of silence to help your friends and family in Etris? Or are you one of the Urseosians causing unrest in Etris?

Majority of the population are humans, but a few select Estians are androids with near human personalities. You can choose what country you're a citizen of and your role in society (i.e student, nurse, farmer) and you're free to choose where you are at the time of the attack (are you stuck in either country?)

Side notes:

- Most of the Etrisian income is through farming. But of course there are other jobs available.

- A lot of the Estian population are well to do and don't have to work much aside from the occasional mechanic to keep all the androids and other machines in working condition.

- Since the Useosians are an invading force, many of them are militaristic and of course families of soldiers have come over to Etris to take part of the invasion.

The roosters sounded off in the distance signalling yet another all night shift at the makeshift hospital formed in secret by the very few young nurses and doctors to take care of the sick and injured citizens of her town. Sadie looked down towards the doors, watching the sunlight slowly starting to pour in through the paper covered window. It was time to move patients back into hiding while everyone was out working at the actual hospital that was surrendered to the Useosian soldiers to make sure they got priority care. "Quickly... quickly. I think I hear some soldiers coming." She worked as fast as she could to hide all the medicines and supplies that were out in the open. Anxious at the dwindling number of supplies, she was reminded that she had to formulate a plan to get more. Just as the last patient was rolled away the doors burst open and the soldiers poured in.

"Ladies, it's time to go. There are people waiting for your help." Orders were barked at the group of women huddled in a terrified group. It had been three years and they were still terrified of the occupying forces. Sadie didn't get it, if you showed your fear, you were targeted a lot more than the stoic ones. She had long ago learned to force the emotions to the back of her head and used them to fuel her actions. "LINE UP." And just like that, everyone filed into a single file line. Flanked by soldiers, they were guided to the hospital soon to get their daily orders.

The walk to the hospital was a particularly cold one, fall was starting to get into full swing. Sadie's breath puffed in the air with each step she took. She was looking forward to the warm cup of coffee that would be given to her once she got her station orders for the day. Once they got there, the nurses filed in and stood in front of the commanding officer in charge of hospital operations. It seemed like years until she finally got her orders. Constant rounds on the injured wing. The usual. Nodding sleepily, Sadie walked off towards the nurse's station on the second floor's east wing stopping to grab a coffee on the way. Coffee, one of the very few things amenities that workers of the medical field were granted. It brought her solace and pushed her through the majority of her morning.

Voldemars laughed as he sat on a nearby roof watching the makeshift hospital they had created. He was considered a bad man for a lot of reasons, whether it was all the people he had killed or how he enjoyed torturing his victims. But in reality he wasn't actually that mean of a man. It was pretty common that he watched this little get together they had and not once did he ever reveal it to his superiors. He was infamous for always killing his targets as one of the best assassins for the royal army of Urseos however he was also known for never giving his commanders any intel other than whether his job was completed or not and where the body was now. With that he fixed his scarf and sword and watched as the royal army itself showed up.

He watched and wanted to kill all of the guards as they treated these civilians so poorly. They were only nurses and doctors after all, absolutely crucial to the way the army survived. If any member of the army had been injured they were healed by the doctors from Etris that had been captured. Following quietly keeping to the shadows he watched as they finally arrived at the hospital safe and sound.

Knowing that the nurses were provided coffee and safe at the hospital he walked passed the guard at the entrance and gave him a wave quickly flashing his badge. Quietly following behind the girl who headed upstairs for coffee he waited until she stepped inside the nurse's station and stepped inside behind her. Quickly shutting the door he spoke softly and quickly. "I noticed you seemed to be running low on supplies for that little operation of yours. Please let me know if you need more, though if you get caught gathering them yourself know I won't hesitate to kill you. After all I am an assassin for Urseos."

Etris was still beautiful in autumn. It didn't matter if the super-country was under the control of the military district of Urseos, landscapes didn't change unless you dropped a salvo of artillery on it. Too bad about the war, though. The military had brought upon martial law for any civilians left in-country, though anyone working for the Urseos military had been given exemptions. As a cavalry mechanic, she was allowed the exemptions. Even still, the complete control was so alien to the people of this land, herself included.
As a native born Estium, Mekani got a bad taste in her mouth if she thought too hard abotu what was going on. The reluctance of her politicians to help their neighbor was a disgrace. It oddly made her feel somehow justified for taking Urseosian paychecks. But not really. She didn't leave because she couldn't. The military would hunt her down. Funny thing, she wondered how her company's Estium branch was dealing with it's employees that had been contracted by Urseos. There had been no contact at all. The PMC must have agreed to the silence of her motherland in order to defend its interests.
Mekani walked on, brooding about the drudgery of the last three years.
When the bomb exploded, it shocked her system totally. Throwing herself to the ground, she skittered behind the nearest parked vehicle and hid until the blasts and gunfire stopped. Waiting she slowly peeked her head out to see the collapsed building and a burning military truck. The patrol had been ambushed and annihilated. Poor bastards, the partisans were undeterable. Unfortunately for them, the Urseosian High Command had no interest in loosening the fist.
A lonely gunshot called out, and Mekani found herself lying on the cold pavement. Lying there, she let her body remain limp. The sniper never fired again, believing her to be dead. Standing up took mountainous effort, but she managed. Hand to her side, she limped towards the hospital a street over. Reaching the doors, she showed her military ID and was ushered into the building.

She stared at the man in front of her. Caught off guard, she tried to formulate an answer. Deciding between playing dumb or confessing, Sadie sighed and looked the assasin straight in the eyes, "How do you know about that? I mean, the offer is much appreciated,but how do I know that you're not going to rat any of us nurses out for illegally taking care of our own citizens? I'm sorry if it sounds harsh, but I have every right to hold out and not put much stock into your words." Not showing any emotion or any hint of backing down, she shrugged her shoulders and took a sip of her coffee, "If you can prove to me that I can trust you, maybe then we can talk. But for now, I think I can get by with what I have." With that said, she slipped behind the man, grabbed her charts and left the room.

"If you get caught I won't hesitate to kill you." She scoffed at that last remark of his. "Who knows, maybe mister big shot in there may be of some help, but like I said he's gotta prove himself." Sadie laughed again and sipped her coffee before sitting down to read what the night shift said about her patients she was in charge of. Before getting a chance to get comfortable, a fellow nurse rushed by the desk and motioned for Sadie to follow. Someone new had just been admitted. Setting her coffee down, she got up and made her way to the new arrival. "What do we have?"

 

Voldemars smiled when she accused him of ratting her out. Following behind after she left the room he wasn't questioned by the guards because of who he was. "Well basically here's what happened. I've been watching your operation for quite a while now and I haven't interfered. It's not that I won't if I'm ordered to however my command doesn't think your operation is worth sending me after." Pausing for a moment he grabbed a knife from his pocket and twirled it by the handle before launching it at a nearby man that was eavesdropping. "Sir I'm going to have to ask you to mind your own business or else the next won't miss. On a side note you can take and sell that knife if you'd like. It'll fetch a pretty penny."

When he heard her get informed of the new arrival he just casually followed behind her wondering if he knew the person in question. When it came to knowing people from the Urseos army he was one of the best. Fixing his cloak as to hide his weapons he sped up and spoke softly. "As for the proving myself what exactly would you want me to do? I mean I'm an assassin my way of proving myself isn't going to go over to well with you.

 

"I have pain here." Mekani said wryly. She held the gauze against the wound in her side and looked up at the nurse that had just shown up. "Mayhaps have something done about that. But what do i know, being a humble mechanic and all."

 

"As for the proving myself what exactly would you want me to do? I mean I'm an assassin my way of proving myself isn't going to go over to well with you."

She stopped walking and looked over her shoulder to glare at the assassin, "I have a patient to tend to. We can talk about this later. Now, please stop following me around."

Turning back to the girl in front of her, she looked at the deep red gauze on her side. "Can you move you hand so I can see the damage?" Sadie pulled on a pair of gloves and started to remove the gauze from her side. "I'm going to let you know now, depending on how long you've had this gauze on, it may or may not have begun to stick to your skin. Please bear with me in case it does stick." Luckily the gauze removed with ease. Placing it on the tray next to her that a fellow nurse wheeled to the side of the stretcher, Sadie took a look at the wound.

"Mekani, is it? It looks like you've got something lodged in your side. I'm not sure how deep the object is embedded into your side, but I can see it. I can remove it, but it will cause you a bit of pain. I'm going to need to get some information from you before any of this happens. Are you allergic to anything? You're going to be out of work for a couple days, who do I have to have the staff notify?" Placing a new gauze on the wound for the time being, she sat the mechanic up so she could get everything together for the removal. "I have to get everything together, please try not to move too much." Sadie walked off to gather supplies for the procedure.

 

Mekani shrugged slightly. "I'm an employee of the Lazarus Corporation working in conjunction with the Urseos military. You can just let my branch supervisor know. I'm not allergic to anything, I ate about three hours ago, and I got shot about twenty minutes ago. I don't mind morphine. I've been shot before."

Voldemars stepped forward as to keep following the nurse when a guard approached him and began speaking in a rushed tone about the patient and how she had been attacked during an ambush. Once the guard finished giving him the details he quickly scurried away. When it came to contacts Voldemars had all sorts but they were all of different personalities. Some guards would tell him in the middle of a meeting and just casually walk away while some guards would do it when no one was around and speak quick before rushing away. This guard was of the latter type and he had known that.

Now with the knowledge of the incident and what had happened he began walking towards the wing where the patient was. Voldemars was a weird man when it came to his duties as an assassin. To him enemies of the government didn't always mean enemies to himself. The nurses that had treated the sick in their own country in their free time were not his enemies and that's why he never bothered them despite knowing of their existence for a while. However people attempting to kill Urseosian employees originally from their own country were not on his friendly list. Grabbing a cigar from his pocket he put it in his mouth but didn't light it at as he continued walking to the patient with the information.

Coming back with sterilized equipment, Sadie chuckled and pulled on some clean gloves. "You're not going to need morphine or any of that. I'm simply just going to swiftly remove the shrapnel from your side and sew you up as quick as that. After that we're going to take some x-rays to make sure everything is in order."
Removing the gauze, she put it on the tray and picked up the tweezers to try to remove the metal. The procedure was a bit risky considering she didn't know how big or how far the shrapnel was embedded. "Alright, on the count of three you're possibly going to feel a bit of pain. Ready? One. Two. Three." She gently worked the tweezers into the wound and got a good grip on the metal and steadily raised her wrist, removing the foreign object. Once it was removed, Sadie reached over to the tray with her free hand and placed a gauze strip on the wound while she got the suture ready.
"We're almost done Mekani. I just have to close up this hole in your side and you'll be able to rest for a few while we're getting the x-rays and such prepared. Once again, you may feel a slight discomfort on the count of three. One... two... three." Within minutes the stitches were finished and Sadie was helping Mekani to sit upright. "Now that we've got that under control, is there anything we can do for you right now? Besides the fact of getting you a painkiller. I've got that on its way."

 

OOT: I see. You just seem well informed on your treatments n stuff.

Mekani grunted in pain and bit her lip as the nurse seemed to ineptly fumble around the open wound. "The slug didn't ricochet anywhere did it?" She asked. The sound of metal plinking onto the tray made her nod. "Well, that's lucky for me. Good thing I had my appendix out already, or else I'd be staying longer." She grinned wryly.
"Morphine is good." She said in response to the nurse's question. "I dunno. Maybe something to eat. Though I'm probably going to be close to passing out here soon. Once the endorphins kick off. Blood loss and all that fun, fun stuff. Might even go into shock. But I doubt that, with you around Nurse... sorry. What's your name again? I like to know the names of the people who are inside me." She said with a wink.

 

( ooc: Nope, just have a lot of family members that are in the medical field and I took some classes through the Red Cross. )

She laughed, "My name is Sadie. You're not going to be needing morphine, the procedure wasn't that intense. And trust me, you won't go into shock from blood loss unless there's another open wound you're not telling me about." Slipping off the gloves and throwing them away, she grabbed a file folder from the room and walked towards the door. Turning around before leaving, she looked at Mekani. "Before I go, what do you want to eat? I'll make sure to have them get it to you as soon as possible. Now, I'll be back with some of that medicine for you. Try not to move around too much."
With that said, Sadie was out of the room and down the hall, making her way to the nurse's station to fill out Mekani's paperwork before scanning the file into the main computer. It wasn't even lunch time and she was already feeling exhausted.

 

"A little morphine can always brighten up someone's day." Mekani said with a grin. She held eye contact with Sadie for a few seconds before shrugging. "Just bring me whatever the cafeteria has that isn't a few days old." "Not unless humans naturally produce oil." She said examining a dirty patch of her overalls. She gave Sadie a wink."Should be good. Ah well. I won't take up more of your time with my dumb wit. Enjoy yourself."
Mekani waited for the nurse to leave the room before the constant grin fell away to reveal a bored scowl. "Great. How on Earth am I supposed to get in contact with the Estium branch if my only possible channel is trying to kill me. Raf had better know what he's doing." She still wasn't sure that the young lieutenant was fully capable of running things now that they were cut off. It wasn't easy crossing borders with the Urseos military breathing down the battalion's neck.

 

"Anything as long as it isn't a few days old." She laughed to herself. "The oldest thing we have is a 2 hour old salad. I have no idea what to get her since it's still so early... cereal and breakfast items seem fitting." Sadie made her way to the cafeteria to place an order for Mekani's food requesting it be delivered to her room when it was ready. After finishing that task, she went up to the dispensary to grab the doses of medicine for the patients she was in charge of for rounds. The morning seemed to move quickly and everything was going as planned. Getting back to Mekani, she peered in through the window in the door to see that the mechanic looked a bit bored.

"You know... you don't have to be so bored in here. There are things you can do. Don't tell me you didn't realize there was a tv..." She laughed and saw the food tray next to the bed. "I see you got breakfast. This is good because the medicine we've got you on, you need to have a full stomach to take it. I should warn you now, this stuff tastes horrid." Sadie handed over the medicine and some water before looking out the window to see the Urseosian assassin coming her way towards the room. Groaning, she put her back against the door, "Why doesn't he just leave well enough alone?"

 

"Captain, your orders?" A soldier asked me as me and my troops stood outside the hospital doors. I was given orders to attack an illegal hospital being run out in the rural town here. Kill or capture all the people in the hospital and tear the building down as a lesson of sorts. Brought 30 of my best men with me. Seems a bit overkill, but overkill is better then nothing.

"We attack on my mark. Once were inside I want Douglas and Kyle to stay close to me. Your orders are to kill on site. Leave the women alive. Is that understood?"

"Yes sir!" My soldiers say in unison as we marched inside the tiny hospital. The inside of the building looked old and a bit run down. Not the kind of place you really want to treat injured people unless there was nowhere else to go. The people in the waiting room looked on in shock at us I as opened my mouth.

"We heard that this hospital was harboring refugees and committing other illegal actions. Under orders of the Urseonian president, me and my troops are here to shut down this hospital in any manner I see fit." After saying that I pull out my pistol and shoot the receptionist in between the eyes. Taking that as my signal, my men began opening fire into the small hospital.

 

"It all tastes horrible." Mekani said with a preemptive grimace. She took the medications anyway. "I'm not bored." She pulled out a small gadget. "I'm keeping up to date on everything in my motorpool that needs repairs. My Lieutenant wasn't too happy about me getting myself shot. Stupid resistance needs to get themselves into Urseos and start blowing things up. This area's already lost." She shrugged then let out an irritated sigh. "If only my damn country would have gotten off its ass this situation would be reversed."

"Eh, you got an admirer or something?"

Gunfire came from outside the building and Mekani slipped out of the bed and onto the floor with a grunt of pain. "The hell is all this now?"
