battery backup for computer

Recently i've run into a few times where the power flickered for a moment. It wasn't long but it was enough to make me have to restart my computer. So I decided I was tired of it and to get a backup. All the ones I can find are surgeprotector and backup and the cheapest I can find are around $50.

Is there a way I can just buy a backup that I could plug my computer into and then plug that into a surge protector? If not what if the cheapest I can go while still getting something reliable enough.

 

I think what you're looking for would be a UPS (Uninterpretable Power Supply). Every single one I've seen has a few outlets, some that are just straight power, like any normal surge-protector, and a few special outlets that run through the UPS's battery. As for which one to get, you'll have to guess the amount of Watts your computer pulls and calculate some extra Watts for over-head. Newegg has a good selection of UPS with great stats to make an informed decision.

 

APC is your best brand for power surge protection and UPS devices. I will be using one myself as soon as I put a new cell in mine.
