Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon: Crystal Discussion Thread

Today the new Sailor Moon re-boot anime aired. I'd like us to discuss each ep and what we liked, didn't like and so on. If you watched the original, please say so as well as whether you watched it subbed, dubbed or both? Feel free to make comparisons between the original and the new Crystal anime. Also, please @ people you know who are or may be watching this anime or just @ them if you want too. I'll do some myself.

Note: the Genres for this are Demons, Magic, Romance, Shoujo, so I wasn't sure where exactly it best fit, if a mod thinks it fits in another thread besides this one, please move it to said location but let us know please. Thanks. I made it here since romance is one of it's genres however, I believe MAL is lacking since it's clearly a fantasy/maybe super natural and also is prob a comedy like the original. (Can't base this just on 1 ep though)

Ugh, I didn't like this episode.
I caught the worldwide premiere, and I kind of did not regret it.
The CGI ruined it for me, as did Usagi's VA.

 

I loved this ep, so many feels, so much awesome sauce, oh yes! There were some really big differences between the original and the new, I won't list them at this time but, even with those differences I am ok with them and they made for real nice SHOCKER moments. I watched the original anime dubbed so it was nice being able to compare the differences between the original and the new. I SOO cannot wait for the next ep, too bad, it won't air till the 3rd Sat of this month. (All eps air 2 times a month for 1 year on the 1st & 3rd Sat of each month)

As for the CGI transformation scene which you'll prob be hearing about too much, I actually liked it and was happy to see it done, however, they were real lazy about it and that was what ruined the transformation scene, not the CGI imo. I do wonder how the other girls' transformation scenes will be though.

Also, peeps should note, Usagi is wearing lip stick, so too is Molly (I forget her JPN name), I don't recall Molly ever wearing that in the original and it wasn;t until WAAAAY LATER into the series that Usagi started wearing lip stick. I am ok with that, I guess? Just feels weird and odd.. Also, unless they changed it, she's a kid just so u know.

Wished I'd caught the world premierm but, just glad u posted in that thread saying you watched it, I'd forgotten it was happening on the 5th. Thanks Maddy, u made my day awesome and I do mean that.

You do know that the VA who plays Usagi's voice in Crystal is the same VA who did her voice in the original right?

Yes, she was the only VA that wasn't changed.
She's also Misato from Evangelion.

Same here. It's been so long since I saw original, and even then, I wasn't really watching it 'cause I was a kid who wanted Pokémon instead.
Before watching this new one, I'd very much prefer to "rewatch" the original. Or rather, watch its dub for nostalgia, then sub after for unedited-ness. Either way, it's gon' be a looooong time before I even consider starting this new one. ;P

Well that's why I also said, if you're planning on watching it, then wait to vote, though seeing as the poll closes in 10 days (Or 9 & a half as of now but, meh, details), unless you were planning on watching the new and or old 1st ep soon, then yea I guess none of the options aplly to you, sadly, I tried to cover all the options but, looks like I missed one, as always. lol

Mafia, the original is getting a new blue-ray release, both a sub and a dub version and the dub is, a new dub sort of. Basically, they're releasing all 200 eps (Plus I think the 3 movies) uncut, and that means they're using the subbed lines, plot and so on. So none of the US stuff we saw in the dub will exist, such as the Hold on a sec @Sir-Maddy (Since u said sub sucked, lemme help make it better with the following) ok, such as the whole, oh we're cousins crap in the dub with Neptune & Uranus where as in the sub they were actually lesbians. So u MIGHT want to wait till the new dub release comes out and best of all, Sailor Stars season will be dubbed too!

 

Not interested. Wanting to watch the dub for nostalgia only. ;P

So u see, unless you're wanting the Jpn voices, u might as well watch the new dub after u watch the original dub. Though, tis your choice.

WE GOT QUALITY, LOTS AND LOTS OF QUALITY.

 

Well, the poll is closed and the results are in, interesting and for those who wish to know, now that the poll is closed, my vote was the both are equal option. What was everyone's who voted?

Dat we did @Sir-Maddy It was really good, loved Mercury's transformation. Also, I've warmed up to Moon's transformation. The 2nd half was way better since it was way different from what happened in the original. I mean, a 2nd time of Moon using the ultrasonic bunny moon waves (Aka her crying, the buns emitting an ultrasonic wave) which was only ever used in ep 1 of the original, dat was cool. :3 I do have one complaint though, no, two complaints. #1 When Usagi transformed into a doc like in the original, her hair did NOT look like it normally does, where as in crystal it still did. That was a POOR choice and I hated it, even if she did still look cute I'd have preferred the original doc hair do. #2 The villain's human appearance was not as good looking as her original's human appearance in the original anime. I don't care that they completely changed her monster form look tbh.

Ah, sarcasm, well, tbh like I said, the 1st half was boring to me, the 2nd half (essentially the fight scene and the ending) was rather good. The reason why it was rather dull for me is because even though the 2nd ep does change a fair amount, it was still another blasted recap ep, or rather a retake on the events that actually happened in the original. I imagine all the sailor meet ups will be like this. I only really remember the meet up for mars and somewhat for venus so, yea. Anyway, I dunno if the rest of the series is just a retelling of the story or not but, I am hoping not.. -_-

Why was ep 2 shit to you? Wasn't there something you liked in it?

Why are the voices unusually higher pitched?

My ears were bleeding from the first ep.
