So first off I would like to ask everyone,
How many of you have a tattoo or tattoos?

    I do, and I have 3

Did you know that in Osaka Japan, the local education authority has fined a 23 year old school clerk for having tattoos on her body?

In June 2012, the city's code of ethics was revised after a child was frightened by the tattoo on the arm of a municipal official.
I know a lot of people who has a frightening tattoo, but we don't go around changing city codes because of it.

Going by what the city Mayor, Hashimoto said in his memo to the city staff:
In Osaka, they believe if tattoos of city employees are seen by the public, the city government will lose its credibility because tattoos will make people feel nervous or intimidated.

Now all of Osaka's 38,000 employees are askd to fill out a form stating where their tattoos are. All tattoos that are exposed to the public must be disclosed.

Now this I can understand, especially when working in a professional field. Even here in the U.S. we have to have our tattoos covered, if you are working in area that is based on a professional look, (well most business companies not all) cause lets be honest here, having tattoos displayed in the public eye doesn't look professional. Depending on the tattoo, meaning some can be a silly cartoon, or something provocative, a person that is supposed to be 'professional' and has those types of tattoos, can't be taken seriously.
There are ways to cover it up, even if it means to wear a long sleeve shirt in the middle of summer, you just bare with it. At least its a paying job right? If you can't, then you might want to look for a different kind of job, one that isn't in a field of or based on 'profession' or professional looks, like say warehouse work or something behind a cubical where you are not working with customers.

Since tattoos are closely related to the yakuza, the society has formed a stigma (or in other terms a mark of disgrace, dishonor or shame) against those who have marked their skin

For those that dont know who the Yakuza are:
The 'Yakuza' are members of transnational organized crime syndicates originating in Japan. The yakuza are notorious for their strict codes of conduct and very organized nature. They have a large presence in the Japanese media and operate internationally with an estimated 103,000 members

As for the school clerk she has stated that she will undergo surgery to have her tattoos removed.

Would you have your tattoo's removed after receiving a fine and most likely publicly humiliated for having a tattoo? Considering she has made the paper I would assume she has been humiliated for the ordeal.
Or would you keep your tattoo, try to cover it up or find a different job?
What's your opinion on this article??

I do not have any tattoos, yet. I would just find another job. Getting a tattoo removed to keep a job is something I could not do.

my stand on tattoos is that if you have one it should no be visible when going/working to public offices. putting them on legs, shoulder, or at the back is fine for me. i consider them as art when its in small amounts like 2 square inch in size but when it covers a whole part like the whole arm, leg, or butt then its dirty.

regarding on having them removed, well i dont have one but if i did, id ask for permission on having them and promised to hide them properly. if the employer will not approve of it, its either ill find another one or ask again.
