Music Shorts

The MAL entry is for the official music video's release. Without the video accompanying it, it is simply a song not a musical short. The version Keiichi posted was only the song with cover art so it wasn't what MAL specified. An anime needs animation [even if it is only minimalistic]. Post the official music video and it'd be a different story.

I know my stuff when it comes to shorts, and I even watched this short when I first watched the OVA before the series even existed. Don't settle for good enough, find the actual version and post that.

On March 11, Zapuni, the charity project for the Tohoku Earthquake, will start free distribution of By Your Side, a collaboration work by singer diva Sade and animator Tsuneo Gouda. Themed on recovery from the Tohoku Earthquake, it expresses overcoming the sadness of the catastrophe through stop-motion animation. It thoroughly depicts the wavering emotions of a girl who plays the piano and the two plushie toys living together with her, stirred up by the earthquake. The figures of the two plushie toys bravely waiting for the girl who got lost in the earthquake are heartwrenching.

 

That was good, like a few other shorts it managed to be touching without the need of dialogue and watching those two plushies struggling together was  a nice scene. The use of stop motion seemed like an effective choice for this one, and unlike with clay these figures movements are much more flawless and smooth.

It was worth definitely worth the 6 minutes. How did you find this one Red?

 

The mechanism of using the plushies and a child to recreate the feelings of loss of the earthquake had me in tears. I'm a real sucker for "living" plushies--The Velveteen Rabbit was one of my favorite stories growing up. The short was a beautiful acknowledgement of the anniversary.

 

I was no where near tears but it was still a really good watch and probably approaching my limit I could take for the amount of cute that was on display. I've honestly not read the velveteen rabbit as it is a bit too old of a book for me that I've only heard about from the TV show Friends, now I feel like I missed out on something else.

My only problem with this short is that it is meant to use the piano, I feel that it'd be a bit stronger if the insert song had more of an emphasised piano tune to it. Although this could come from the fact that I like hearing the piano.

 

That was really sweet yet so sad.

@bedheadred, @bk-201 I was searching through the newest added on MAL and discovered that the musical piece By Your Side has now been added to the database.
