    yay people..

blame not being able to access the internet sooner. it was also shared by accident from a friend of mine. she thought it was just a normal cartoon movie not knowing its a gem.

Nice! Did you know? Porco Rosso had an appearance in Whisper of the Heart? ^^

    Mine too! Once, in 8th grade, I proved that I could watch that movie over and over, all day and night. I carried it around on my portable dvd player and kept it playing. ^^;

I knew that Porco Rosso had appeared in that movie, he was on a movie poster at the train station near the end of the film if I remember correctly. There were a few crossovers in Ghibli films, you just had to know what to look for.

I love Spirited Away but even I don't think I can do that. There is simply too much I haven't watched to spend my time on instead, I have however watch 4 Ghibli films in one day when I was watching all of them in a week if that means anything.

And also on the grandfather's clock! :D I don't remember the movie poster one though.. Yes indeed! I always love crossovers. ^^ What were some you have noticed?

Ah, I was in 8th grade then; I had all the time in the world. Plus, it was a three day weekend. ^^; Also, my roommate owns all of the Ghibli films (complete collection up to Arriety, I think.) and we ran a movie marathon!! It was amazing!~ ^^

Oi oi here I am getting my movies confused, the movie poster was in Ocean Waves at the train station not Whisper of the Heart as I remember that one had the Baron from the Cat Returns, I'm not sure if I saw Porco in that one now as I watched them more than a year ago. God the ones I know of, I know I saw more and posted about them in the past but the most memorable ones are Kiki and Porco Rosso appearing in Pom Poko. It is sad but right now I can't seem to remember the other small appearances I had noticed.

All Ghibli films, now thats a fan, I know that I couldn't sit through a couple of them again which is why I only have 4 of them on DVD instead of more.

oh gosh, I like how you used "Oi oi." x)

Ocean Waves? I'm afraid I have not heard nor seen of that one. Yes, that one is indeed the one the Baron featured in first. Also has the song "Country Road" too. :)

Well, if you do watch it again, keep an eye out for that clock. x)

I recently rewatched Nausicaa, Laputa, Kiki's, Howl's, Earthsea, Whisper of the Heart, The Cat Returns. Maybe others too, but can't remember at the moment.

hehe, thanks! :D We both are fans of Ghibli's. ^^ The only one I know she does not have is Up on Poppy Hill; but our friend (who is also our neighbor) does! So complete collection. But now that you mentioned Ocean Waves.. I am curious; what year was it released in and what is it about? Who is the director?

well at least you have physical copies of them.

    hehe, yep! :)

Yeah I'm watching Gintama and as such I've kind of become obsessed with it, since Gintoki says it a bit I've picked it up as a sort of habit.

The only ones I'm interested in rewatching at the moment are Spirited Away, Pom Poko, Laputa, Princess Mononoke [seen all of them a few times each.] however I wouldn't mind rewatching Nausicaa.

Ocean Waves was released in 93, here

it never received a dub [neither did Only Yesterday but this one was my least favourite so I don't care], but it wasn't too bad for a romance setting movie. The drama kind of appealed to me but it is by no means anywhere near my favourite.

so there is two members not liking ocean waves. take that as a hint on what to expect. it might be different for you as you are a girl. so you dont really feel like you lost anything.

Well Ocean Waves was definitely better than only yesterday, but still it wasn't the best. Sure romance and I am not a fan but even still Ocean Waves didn't do too bad of a job  since I rated it a 6 for whatever reason.

Ocean Waves was meant to be a project for the young animators at Ghibli to have a go at making a feature film but it was over budget and took to long to make.

did they originally planned something different?

I don't think so, from what I remember they had to develop their own story and then animate it. It was intended to make them more confident and prepare them to continue when Miyazaki and co retired.

I enjoyed the movie but it felt somewhat like a TV movie and didn't have the prowess of the movies by Miyazaki, Takahata or even Goro Miyazaki (Miyazaki's son). Overall though it was nice romance movie.
