It kind of looked like a heart to me, and he seemed pretty grossed out, so I thought it was. By the way, they both look like young adults/older teens, but they’re apparently young teens? Strange. Maybe we could do predictions of how we think things’ll go? I’d say what I think, but it’s not really like many other manga I’ve read. No real stereotypes with the plot for me to base predictions off of.

Well you can still make predictions. even if they end up completely wrong hard to predict manga are what make predictions more fun right? I'll try to put up some comments for some of 6-10 tomarrow (Had college stuff today) so until then for those that haven't started 6-10 predict what will happen next. It doesn't matter how wrong it may be just post your prediction.

Man I ended up busy again today. But I will at least discuss two chapters!

    Chapter 6
-I think you could almost call Muol Kuudere with how her refuses to admit he likes her
-Ah the infamous "talking in on a girl while she's bathing scenes" I guess you just can't avoid it. But it's nice to see such a natural reaction from her. No over the top reaction. No punching while screaming pervert. Just just covered her body and didn't look at him.
-I also like how he simply explains himself the next night and that's the end of it. Plenty of other series use this as an excuse to keep them a part for a while.
    Chapter 7
-.........ugh not my favorite chapter. I guess this is one way to follow up the naked fan service chapter...... Hope the rest of the chapters aren't this bloody.
-If anything makes that opening stuff worth it it's her cute face and his "I'll carry her princess style like a boss" face. God it makes me love these two so much.
-"Let's be friends"? I don't think that is what you ask a girl while you have carrying her bloody, naked body. Seems like kinda a bad time for friendship.

    Chapter 8
-Called it. I knew that old guy was a bad guy. The way the dragged off Melia and the face she made gives off a "I am totally just using her for my own benefit" kinda feel. Hope he dies in the end
-Second time the old lady appeared. I guess she's just a background character.
-Melia was just so cute trying to share the apple (Normal one this time) saying she wanted to be friends. I'm say he just got friend zoned but unless one of them dies or something it's pretty certain they'll end up together at the end.
-God her face on page 30 (on this scan http://www.mangahere.com/manga/sugar_dark_umerareta_yami_to_shoujo/c008/) is just too cute.
-BTW did Muol feel kinda Tsundere there? It felt like what he was saying could be rephrased as "It's not as if I asked to be freinds because I like you...Baka"
    Chapter 9
-I'll say it again Melia is just so cute."I was just passing buy "*Imediately says "Sorry that was a lie"
-Crow is back and with more exposition on how things work.
-Not allowed inside the house eh? Muol better let that old guy have it at the end of the series. or maybe he'll just get eaten by a dark. Either way he's clearly using Melia as a tool.
-I love how she isn't holding the bath thing against him. Normally it's the exactly opposite so this is refreshing.
    Chapter 10
-Now old guy is using death threats. Again the is clearly the villain.
-Muol needs to stop being Stubborn and just admit he likes her
-Finally we find out what the truth behind the criminal charge. But his face when she asked what he did looked like a sad puppy.

Am I the only one who wants the Melia fanservice to stop? She's 14, and I think of her in more of a big brother way than in a sexual way. She's moe, not sexy...

Relax man. I mean she is completely covered by that cloak 75% of the time and the rest of the time she is naked for the sake of the plot (Like him seeing her naked to cause cliched development or her being ripped to pieces thus obviously losing her clothes) It's not like you see her naked every episode. Even if you did how do you know she is actually 14? Did they state her age cause I don't remember that and if you are just going by her body not only has anime had adult loli's in the past but given her immortal body who knows how long she has had that. But even if she is 14 they haven't done enough yet for it to really count as fan service especially since the second time she was seen naked she was also kinda covered is blood.

You are right that she is Moe and not sexy but I don't think they are trying for sexy it's just that she is naked a couple times for plot reasons.

They stated at some point that Melia's 14 and Muol's 16. It just really felt awkward; like I saw something I shouldn't have, or walked in on a family member dressing.  I understand it has reasons, but it doesn't feel necessary to show the breasts. *shivers* But I won't try and debate it; I was just offput.

I ended up finishing the manga in one go. I love the art in this series and how it can go from being cute one minute, to morbid the next. The setting is pretty cool, which felt like an alternate WW1. Muol is a decent protagonist, and Melia is awesome. Some of the faces she makes are really cute.

I finished the series already, but my care for the series was dropping off towards the end. They've had, like, three actual conversations and Muol is in love. The characters didn't seem to be growing much besides Melia becoming more open. Raven's giving more straight-up exposition and the backstory kind of makes me hate the Dark Hunters. They pinned the blame of a murder on him and then forced him to dig graves? Not exactly the best solution. It was starting to seem rushed.

Well to be fair this is a fairly short manga. Only 19 chapters is not a lot of time to give this kinda thing time to develop. Given the time they had I thought they paced things fairly well. Melia became more open since someone finally tried talking to her and you could say he just felt the whole "Love at first sight" thing. After all she does seem really sweet and when you have literally lost everything it can be easy to cling to anything that might make you happy. Not saying the development was perfect but I've seen much worse in some harem anime and romance anime and they had way more chapters to deal with it. At least these two took some time to fall for each other. Unlike series like Rosario+Vampire where they are pretty much a thing after the first chapter. Also they never said the hunters pinned the blame on him. One of them just used his shovel and stuff happened from there.
    Chapter 12
Anyway We Finally know what Melia is exactly and why that fruit looked so weird. I think it's a decent plot twist. It explains why she is there and why she is immortal while also establishing her back story.
    chapter 13
-Melia's face when he mentions his helmet is just too cute and she looked so sad when he said he planned to escape.
    chapter 14
-This is what I meant about there being some dobut that the hunters as a whole frammed him. Maybe that old guy set it up to get a new worker or something? But the hunters themselves seem like they just want to defeat the darks. There wouldn't be any reason for those masked guys to frame him.
-Her hugging him was so sweet but then........damn what the heck is he planning? Seriously this was a legitimately surprising plot twist.
    Chapter 15
-So. That is what the first few pages in the manga were about.
-Raven (Or Karas as they suddenly decided to translate his name as) is doing more of his exposition thing. But at least he is entertaining while doing it.
-So I'm guessing his plan is to help her do her job so that she doesn't have to bear the pain alone? But what did breaking her neck have to do with that? They'll probably explain that. The thing I really like about this manga is they do take the time to explain properly. They properly explain what the dark are and how they work. Some manga would just say "They are immortal monsters that eat people" and leave it at that. But even though they take time to explain it's not really done in a boring way. It's told in bits and pieces and a lot of his has emotion behind it so it's still interesting.

I guess this is the point where I give my final thoughts on the series. I liked the progression of the plot pretty well, and Melia was adorable, plus I really did look forward to reading each chapter. The art style was splendid and so was the character design. As I said, I was starting to get skeptical at the end, and I kind stayed that way. I understand that there were only 19 chapters, but that still means they had to rush the romance. I LIKED that they didn't immediately hit it off, but it kind of made it a bit too quick for them to fall when they started to get together. I was confused as to what was reality there and what wasn't. I had to read the ending a few times to fully understand it, which can be good or bad, you decide. I personally thought it was bad, since others mightn't've done the same and been left confused.  I'd've liked more explanation of Raven and more time to develop the relationship, but it was an overall good manga. Still, because of my complaints, I doubt I'd recommend it.

For a series i didn't think i would like too much, it turned out to be a pleasant surprise when i got sucked in and read it all in a day or two. A 19 chapter manga is rather uncommon for me to read typically due to lack of depth and progression. Interestingly that really didn't seem to be much of a problem other than the story moving really fast. The Dark and the hunters seemed to have a large backstory, which we only got bits and pieces of. Speaking of bits and pieces, that seemed to be the method used to tell much of the story. You never knew all that was going on. A nice quick read overall.

Yeah the romance did hit off fairly fast but it kinda makes sense in a way. She has been alone for who knows how long so it makes sense she's attach to the first person to show her kindness in so long and he was desperate to use her to escape so he got close to her fast and maybe she was just really his type. Besides if they had given the romance any more time they would have needed a lot more chapters so it's better to have the romance a little rushed than to have it cut off. IMO anyway.

I do agree that raven needed better explaining. It felt like his/her/it 's explination was just kinda squeezed in.

I really liked the ending though he shares her power thus allowing both of them to walk during the day, they both get the fortune the evil old man was hording and made him into their butler and basically live happily ever after...well except for the fact they will probably still get their bodies turn apart regularly. But still about as happy an ending as you could get from this manga. I enjoyed it over all and I personally would recommend it.

I more or less agree with everything what Metazoxan said. The whole romance part completely made sense and I have no complaints at all. Yes, it did feel a bit rushed, but considering the fact that we were reading not a romance manga and only 19 chapters, I believe it was quite well done.

I did like all the progression of the story, but it kinda leaves me unsatisfied in the end. I would say it did have a nice ending, but now I feel like they have taken a different route... Of course, it depends on the author, but I must say there was potential to keep publishing it. So much unknown about the "dark" and hunters and some other things. Surely we could have had another 20 chapters and wouldn't have made it look any worse...

    So I give it a good mark - 8 out of 10.

P.S. I'm really glad that it won and I had a reason to read this piece of work.

Yeah it did have room for a lot more. Especially since I guess they were able to leave the graveyard at the end so they could have had the story go to them going to various locations around the world and maybe even other graveyards and that would have easily made the story three times as long without stretching anything out too much. But I guess it's better to just call it a day and end the series properly than to be overly ambitious and plan for too many chapters only for it to get axed.

Well this graveyard is special tho... if we wanted them to move to other graveyards, that means there must be Hunters there too as otherwise it's pointless. Who will catch the Dark and bring it to the graveyard? Anyway, it definitely had potential but I can't say I am very disappointed that they stopped with it.

I think I remember Raven saying at the start something like "The Dark can only be put to permanent rest in mass graves like these" or something and went on to explain the theory as to why. But the way he said it seemed to imply that there were other grave yards. Now since Melia's graveyard had the Dark's "king" it's possible that the others don't have proper gate keepers and they simple had a standing army at the other graves to kill and burry the Dark when it gets there. Then again they never even said that the "King" was the official king of the Dark just that he was strong enough to be called the king. So there might be other King class Darks that are burried and have grave keepers drawing on their power. There really are various reasonable ways they could have continued the story. I'm not all that disappointed it ended either but I find speculation like this fun.
