Welcome to your new home agent/subject. Here at the DCOA (Defect Containment and Overwatch Agency) you will be learning to adjust to your new life. Whether you're unfit for society, unknown to us, or living a normal life, our goal is to find and assist you in your living. Like many outsiders looking for work or a new home you may ask yourself, what do we do at DCOA?

A: If looking for work, look no further we are always looking for highly specialized agents! This job is mostly about being friendly with the subjects*

B: If you're an anomaly in today's world trying to navigate the confusing reality that you currently live in. Look no further if you check in you can begin your new assisted living program today**

    Character Sheet

    Name:
    Age:
Human or Defect: (Humans are just normal people)
    Defect: (read the P.s.)
story/backstory: (optional, would prefer having everything play out.)

*agents can be friendly with the subjects, however they shouldn't be friends with them unless specifically stated otherwise if their documentation.

**not all defects will be given assisted living, those that can function in a normal society could be made agents, this is circumstantial, when required we will make sure it is an optimal fit.

Just a little P.s. you are not required as a defected character to reveal what your ability is, keep it within reason, you are only required to disclose your ability under specific circumstances, for plot reasons, sometimes your defect will not be disclosed even if you are in assisted living, I do not intend for defects to be gods, remember there are still people that are detaining factors in this world, however it does not mean that your Anomaly is not powerful. And another reason why you don't need to reveal your defect, is it feels more natural to learn it through interaction. Though I have written in the character sheet what the defect is, I also want there to be an understanding that there will only be 1 for most characters, 2 if there is a plot reason for it. The only reason for an anomaly to be immediately revealed is if you are currently living within the confines of the DCOA unless specifically stated otherwise for plot.

    Name: Roman Trevelyan
    Age: 28
    Human or Defect: Human
    Defect: N/A
Background: An agent working for the DCOA, Roman is ever a thorn in the side of his superiors. One could even say that disregarding orders has become something of a personal hobby for him, and he does so casually because he knows he can get away with it. Despite his flippant attitude, he’s a soldier of extraordinary combat ability, highly trained and profoundly effective in the use of nearly every weapon, vehicle, and martial art imaginable. Not that you would know it from talking to him, as he tends to avoid talking about his past and where his military experience comes from. However, he’s an open book on any other topic, and he can actually be quite the charmer to those who aren’t trying to give him his latest orders.

Tai never came home last night, it was a usual circumstance, he never really stayed home. He was either always at work, out partying, or occupying his handler. The less time he spent with his family the better he thought, not for any reason like having a disdain or hate for them, but more so for the fact that he was a defect. He didn't have a poor relationship with his mother which was rather surprising, you'd figure since they didn't really talk much or see each other they wouldn't like each other much at all, but Tai was the one that was always bringing home groceries, making sure his mother and baby sister was fed, he decided to take a quick stop at home.

Upon opening the door he saw his mother (Sophie) and waved, She didn't know that he was a defect, at least not yet. Tai was trying to keep his life very secretive, she had enough to worry about. "Hey Mom, didn't expect you to be home at this time. I guess you have a day off, I remember back when I had a part time job too." He let out a laugh and continued. "I'm going to be out late tonight. Again, I know at this point it's not surprising. I promise I wont be out late partying." He knew that it was a lie, He was going to go out and get wrecked. With or without his handler being around. Just as quickly as he came home he left. "See ya, mom."

Tai stepped outside and met his handler. He just gave a simple nod and quickly said. "Just pretend your my friend if my mother or sister come out." He spoke in a very muted tone to make sure they couldn't hear him.

After making his way through security, Roman stepped into a dimly-lit room with an all-too-familiar desk sitting prominently in the center. On the other side of the desk was Roman's supervisor, his brow already furrowing with his head resting on his hands as he had a fair notion of how this meeting was going to play out. The supervisor gestured to one of the chairs.
    "Have a seat, Trevelyan."
Roman casually took off his longcoat and slung it around his shoulder, glancing around the room and only halfway paying attention to his supervisor.
"Well, it looks like you didn't take my advice. I'm telling you, a water cooler would be great in here."
He sat down, quickly putting his feet up on the desk with a sly grin on his face.
"I mean, come on, you drag me up here all the time and don't even have the common decency to offer me a drink? It's a long elevator ride to get here. Frankly, I'm parched."

The supervisor gave a defeated sigh.
"Could you at least pretend to take this seriously, for just a few minutes?"
Roman raised an eyebrow and feigned offense.
"Is that really your opinion of me? Of course I take my job seriously. Just not this part...but can you blame me? Have you listened to yourself? It's like listening to a text-to-speech program rattle off a college textbook."

The supervisor rubbed his face with his hands, took a moment to collect himself, then continued.

"I would like to talk to you about some of your latest protocol violations. You have repeatedly failed to show the proper respect for your superior officers, you tend to "improvise" far too much in your missions for my liking, and you have a bad habit of becoming far too casual with your assigned Defects--put the knife away, Mr. Trevelyan!"
While his supervisor had been speaking, Roman pulled out a butterfly knife and began twirling it around, putting on a rather impressive display that the supervisor clearly did not appreciate. As soon as the supervisor raised his voice, Roman stopped, cleared his throat, and put the knife away.
    "Sorry, force of habit."

    "I highly doubt that."
"Have I ever lied to you?"
    "Yes."
Roman gave an even more offended--but still fake--look towards his supervisor.
"Moi? Name one time I've lied to you since I've been here."

"Well, perhaps you haven't lied exactly, but you have omitted rather important details in your reports on a few occasions."
"That doesn't sound like lying to me. Frankly, I think you owe me an apology."

The supervisor gave another sigh before reaching under the table and pulling out a folder with some documents inside.
"Your latest assignment. Now get out of my office."
He tossed the folder over, looking more annoyed than ever. Roman stood up, slipped his coat back on and grabbed the folder, grinning widely.
"As much as I treasure our time together, that's really all you had to do in the first place."
He held the documents up, clicked his tongue and made his way out of the office, but before he closed the door, he made one last comment.
"Oh, and I was serious about that water cooler. At least think about it, will you?"
With that, he closed the door, leaving his smoldering supervisor to curse under his breath.

Name: John // Formally Agent 0000 // Nick name "Zero"

Age: Visually early 30s, birth date unknown.

    Human or Defect: Defect

Defect: Low scale mind control -- highly ineffective on any but the most feeble minded, or those who are sleeping. He is unable to actually control thoughts, but can simply implant feelings and ideas. This is a new development for John, so at this point he is fully taxed by something as simple as making someone feel happy momentarily.

Appearance: Relatively short black hair, unkempt, stubble beard and few other discerning features. Otherwise average all around. Usually seen in dark colored casual clothes. Quite plain by usual standards.

About: Employee of the Defect Containment and Overwatch Agency, and direct handler of Tai. Due to severe memory loss of his time before the DCOA, John does not know his real name. He is at this point a "John Doe". No dental or medical records exist that could be used to identify him. Due to this, he prefers his agency nickname "Zero". John is the only agent whose PIN begins with a 0 due to the circumstances surrounding his hiring. Generally the first digit in an Agent's number corresponds to the department that they work in, but John has no specific department affiliation. His only job duty is containment of Tai. This does afford him some freedom for an agent, but also heavily reduces his ability to use agency resources outside of dire situations. For now, he is content with his (fairly time consuming) job of handling the defect, Tai.
    __________________________________________________________________________________________________________

John stood in a dark spot near Tai's mother's house where the light on the front porch and the light on the garage door couldn't reach, listening and watching Tai's actions and words. He wasn't difficult to follow, and due to his very plain appearance, John had no issues blending in wherever Tai went.

Upon hearing the front door slowly creak upon, and hearing Tai's voice get progressively louder, John slunk farther into the shadow.
Apparently, John wasn't particularly hard to follow either as Tai seemed to heat-seek John in his hiding spot. Without ever turning to face him, Tai began to speak in a whisper, just loud enough for John to hear.

John nodded his head in agreement and also replied in a hushed tone, though somewhat difficult due to his deep voice.
"Understood. Would you prefer to get that over with now? It seems inevitable, unless you take my advice."

John stood waiting for an answer, still cloaked in shadow, pondering what he had said to Tai about his family. John did not understand the necessity of family, and had strongly urged Tai to abandon them for their own safety.

Upon hearing the door open, Sophia looked up and smiled at her son. She dried her hands
"I took the day off so that I can catch up on some errands while your sister is at her friends house."
She smiled at her son happy to see him. He was rarely ever home so the few times she did get to see him, it gave her a sense of relief knowing he was safe. When he mentioned he was going to be out late again she nodded and put on a fake smile despite the disappointment that he wouldn't be staying. She began chopping vegetables and spoke
"will you be staying long enough to see your sister? she will be home any..."
She looked up and realized he had already left, not hearing him say "see ya" . She let out a sign and continued prepping dinner. Deep in thought, she wondered why he rarely came home. She froze mid cut as a thought crossed her mind. She looked down at her hands for a moment, then up at the door he exited 'maybe he is like me?'. She looked back down at her hands and shook the thought out of her head. 'No it cant be, I would of seen signs as he got older....wouldn't I?' She continued chopping still deep in thought about genetics and the possibility's of children obtaining abilities but she then thought about Mia, and how Mia also hasn't shown any abilities. The kettle she had on the stove began going off which broke her out of her deep thoughts. She looked at the time and realized that Mia should be on her way home.

A small voice could be heard off in a slight distance
    "Big brother?"
the voice called out as it approached. As soon as Mia got closer and could see a little better she got excited and looked up at the woman who was walking her home. She gave the lady a tug on her arm
"Its ok I can walk the rest of the way from here, my big brother is here"
the lady gave her a slight nod and let go of her hand. The woman waited for a moment to make sure Mia was safe before walking back home. Mia began rushing to her brother, excited to see him. Their mom explained that her brother was busy with school etc which is why he was hardly ever home. So when Mia always got excited when she did get the opportunity to see him.
    "BIG BROTHER YOUR HERE!"
she called out right before she jumped up and hugged him.

story/backstory: Dont let her looks fool you. You may see her one moment and then she is gone the next, when she discovered her ability, she learned to have fun with it. She has had a few unwelcomed visitors but gave them the slip. A few years ago both her parents were in a car accident, a drunk driver had collided with them when they were on their way home from a dinner. Iris was left with the house and whatever her parents had saved up. Iris lives by herself and works in a restaurant as a server to keep herself busy.

"Is there anything else I can get you this evening, some deserts maybe?"
She gave her customers a friendly smile. They declined and she gave them their check then headed back to the kitchen. She took a moment to sit down and rest her feet. She took up a double shift since one of her co workers had called in sick. She had another 2 hours to go before she could head home.

Tai nodded in disagreement towards what John had said. He wasn't trying to be rude when he said "I'm not all that concerned about inevitability, so long as you're doing your job I'm sure things will be pretty discrete." He spoke as low as he could without his mother or sister overhearing. "Besides, John. As far as what is going on with me and the DCOA I feel like you and I are just lab rats for them to experiment with." Tai sadly would think of conspiracies' for his situation to make sense of it.

Before he could continue talking to John his sister Mia shouted and her short steps turned into a grand pace, putting as much effort into saying hi to him as she could. When she jumped up to give him a hug Tai had caught her and lifted her up as though she was still a baby. holding onto her. "Hey Mia! you're getting so big. I figured I'd stop in to see you and Mom, even if only for a few minutes. I wish I wasn't always so busy!" He put down Mia, even with all of her excitement of seeing him. he still had business to attend to. "You should head inside, Mia, Momma was getting dinner prepared for you two. I unfortunately can't stay. I know you would both like me too but I have to study, work, and get ready for the next day."

When he saw Mia head in, he pulled out a pack of cigarettes walking over to the same hiding spot that John was in. Lifting up the pack offering him one. "Good ol' Nicotine." He paused "Good ol' Nicotine" he said again. he caught it shortly after repeating himself and apologized. "Long day, sorry man." Whether he took one from the pack or not he lit one up for himself. "So what do we have planned for the night?"

John slunk deeper into the shadows again after hearing another voice approaching.
He stared blankly at the small child, who he quickly learned was Mia. As he watched Tai hug her, John felt.. nothing.
As Mia left, he came farther out of the shadow again to talk to Tai.
John stared at the pack of cigarettes for a moment, feeling an odd sense of longing towards the nicotine, even though he hadn't smoked since his memory began again.

"I think at one point I may have taken that offer, but.. I'll pass for now."

John thought about Tai's question for a moment, pulled out his wallet and looked inside. Empty.

"....if you're buying you're choosing.. don't forget that we got banned from that place last night though."

Mia giggled when she was lifted into the air. When she was out down she frowned as she listen to him explain that he had to go.
“will you visit us again soon? I hope you do”

Since she knew her brother had to leave she gave him one last hug then headed in with her mother. Once inside she sat down at the table just as her mother began plating.

Sophia set the plate down in front of Mia.
“Did you see your brother outside?”

    Mia nodded
“I did, he said he had to leave again. Do you think he will stay for dinner sometime?”

Her mother sighed as she took a seat
    “I really hope so”
She gave Mia a faint smile.

Tai took his time enjoying the cigarette. slow inhales and just taking it all in. He figured he would be paying, which really wasn't too much of a concern for him. though his mind wandered he knew what they were gonna do.

"We could go get some early bird meals discount meals, maybe head to a party. but probably best to avoid crowds."
Pausing only for a moment He switched subjects. "When are we scheduled for the next dose?"

Knowing it was unavoidable he just wanted to prepare for it before he started walking away from home. He kept his pace with John being sure to never wander far away from him. regardless of the program they're on. He considered him a good friend given the time he's spent with him.

    John pondered for a moment
"It doesn't sound like you're ready to sleep any time soon, so probably tonight."

John looked at his phone for the time before continuing
"Looks like we could kill a few hours at least, so I'll follow your lead."

John let out a sigh knowing his liver wasn't going to appreciate what was going to come soon after this conversation.

Letting out a sigh of relief Tai rounded the corner into a cheapo trailer diner. The smell of Mildew wasn't noticeable being drowned out from the greasy food that they were producing, not that the food wasn't edible. but it was clearly edible enough. Upon entering, it was still mostly empty, with a few locals that smelled of overpowering soap and cheap perfume. quickly after being seated they had their menu's in their face.

"To be honest, I don't feel like drinking tonight, and since we we're banned from Carl's night club. I'm not particularly looking to do anything wild tonight. might even consider calling it early, unlikely though. I know schedule is important."

Tai looked out the window of the diner, booth seats were usually relaxing but also just as equally awful. looking outside the blinding lights of another defect being detained. turning back in to look at John, was more so depressing to think about.

"wonder if they're going to execute him."

His only passing words and though before going back to the menu expecting it to be dead silent.

John listened to Tai quietly, his eyes pinned on the defect struggling against the agents outside. He noticed a particularly sloppy agent getting far too close to the highly defensive defect. The defect suddenly reached his hand up toward the criminally untrained agent and -
Without turning his head he motioned for the waitress and spoke to Tai in a completely flat tone
    "...Yes."
As if the harbinger of this defects death, a shot rang out almost immediately after he spoke. Then, silence.
John felt nothing watching this mean die, and he did not know why.

When the waitress approached, John's demeanor entirely changed.
He smiled, his tone changed, and his entire body language appeared much more open.
"Just two coffees for me please. Black."

He then turned to Tai to listen to his order.

Muttering under his breath Tai spoke with disgust.

"Of course.." after the sound of the gunshot echoed through the diner and went back to silence. The waitress approached. Listening to John's order, he pretty much knew what he was gonna get.

"I'll get the same thing he is getting, just a light splash of half and half."

She left to go get the drinks, it almost felt surreal that it was commonplace that people got murdered on the streets for nothing but what they might be. There wasn't really much to say knowing both of them would be content to sit in silence, there was still burning questions.

"You know, handling me. It's an around the clock thing, you ever get tired of it?"

After walking out of the office, Roman found a quiet room to sit down in and look over the documents.
"Alright, let's see what we've got here."
He opened the folder and started reading.
"Wait...they're sending me on an observation op? A lot of agents could pull that off. Why did they call me in for this one?"

    Subject: Iris
    Sex: Female
    Age: Mid-twenties
    Occupation: Waitress
    Current Threat Assessment: Low

Roman glanced over to the attached photo and gave an approving nod.
"She's a cutie. Really, this assignment almost seems too good to be true. Which means it probably is..."
He directed his eyes back to the file.

Notes: Subject has displayed an uncanny ability to evade conventional observation methods. Initial intel suggests that she may possess some form of advanced stealth-based Defect. Recommend assigning a Specialist Operative to track down and observe the subject further.
    Roman clicked his tongue.
"Ah, there it is. Still, I've had worse missions, and it's nice to have a break from shooting things and blowing stuff up once in a while."
With that, he put the files away and started making his way down the hall.
"As usual, I feel like they're not giving me the full story. But I think I know who might be able to fill in the blanks."
He passed a few more doors down the hallway, stopping at the fourth door on the right where he gave a few knocks.
"Dominic, you got a second? I thought you might know a thing or two about this mission I just got."
He then waited for the door to open, holding up the folder so that Dominic could take a look at it.

Dominic was actually in his office for once. It was a rarity given how high up he was. generally he was over watching the much less desirable and unfit for modern society based defects. All of which were living bioweapons, ranging from plagues, to nuclear fission. Being a judge, jury, and executioner for them. If they're uncontrollable they're just as easily disposable. Quickly looking up he saw the folder it was Iris. something he glanced at a few times. but never really had an interest in sending anyone out, which means his supervisor got shit duty.

"I see, the guy down the hall is giving you busy work. Come on in Roman."

When roman entered the room, he motioned for him to sit down. grabbing the dossier from him he looked over the subject matter, only so he could read it, seeing in bold "advanced stealth-based Defect" He already knew what it was. sure it was a guess, but there wasn't much that could be said. He looked at her picture, knowing where she works, and already knowing where she lives.

"Don't know who you pissed off, but I can tell you it's a waste to send you out there, Iris is non-lethal, highly likely to be a pacifist. and has the ability to turn invisible." He paused. " You look like shit, Roman. Stop pulling long nights, or stop overworking yourself. I don't know why you would overwork yourself anyway. Task Force workers haven't had much deployments recently, just training exercises."

Dominic got up, from his chair and gave the case file back to Roman, Walking to a water cooler just sitting snugly at his desk, he filled a cup up and slid it down the table to Roman.

"Stay Hydrated out there." He smirked. "And if you come across any defect matching a very odd description, be sure to detain him. make sure it's non lethal."

Below the Iris case Dominic's sleight of hand snuck in a secondary description of a different defect.

    Name: Gerald
    Age Approximation: 45
Defect: Scaled looking skin, could be from excessive heat.
Notes: Seems to be non aggressive. generally friendly, refuses to seek out assisted living, constantly gets complaints about ominous appearance, police visits becoming to regular, cannot live in normal society anymore.

"You have a good day Roman. I'm sure your mission will be exceedingly simple for you. Looking forward to seeing you again. I'll let you know if there will be a need for any task force deployment or if I need your assistance in the human weapon department."

Dominic waved him off, giving him freedom to do what he chose. before sitting back down at his desk. though he also gave him busy work. He figured his case wasn't going to be anywhere near as simple as Iris.
