I'll be frank. I'm still settling on this site. No really, I have "break-in" times for new sites. I'm still getting to that point here. Since new members seem to be kind of an oddity here, I figured I'd open the door for you filthy animals to ask me stuff that most people would put in their intro thread, and maybe some that they wouldn't. This is all of course to fulfill my time until I get my bearings a bit better.

But as I sit here typing this post about asking me things about other things that you might want to know, be mindful...I'm 90% dead during the week by the time I get home from work.

So - do what an artillery gunner would do, and "send it!"

I assume you mean my onboarding into the Civilian Corps - since I didn't get much passed the recruiting station otherwise. It's different for everyone.

In my case, it started with volunteering within the Command. Coincidentally, the area I wanted to work for had volunteer slots. When the position opened I submitted an application just like everyone else does through OPM, and thus began the process of "hurry up and wait." My first contact was on 2 April, and I didn't clock in until 6 August (2017). From what I've been told my experience was towards the shorter length of time that most can expect - about 40% or so? Some put in one year and don't hear until the next.

The most specific thread title I've seen in a while. So I guess I'll get started. But first
We get new members all the time, new active members is the oddity. Hell even active regular members are rare these days.

I've got an easy question. What is an anime you'd recommend that everyone must watch? We all have must watch series/movies. So what anime are on your essentials to becoming an anime fan?

That's actually difficult for me, as I've been taking this year to get back into anime. I think right now my favorite pick has gone to Black Cat simply because of the evolution of the characters. I can't say for sure what I find to be an essential currently. Chrono Crusade is a close second in my favorites, but I haven't reviewed it recently to know how well it aged.

When this series called Pokémon started in the U.S. I think I was in 3rd Grade. I never credited that as my intro to anime, but by the very definition it was. My next step after that was either Sailor Moon or Dragonball Z when they were airing on Toonami. My first anime where I got into the weeds at all though was .hack//SIGN. I went in deep over the series and that really was the one that got me into the rest of the anime at the time: DNAngel, Maburaho, and Excel Saga - among others.

I have heard tales of this "free time." I still do not know what that is.

There's a saying about knowing your audience.

*American* - so that's a thing you know - if you didn't before.

That depends. We're heading back into the academic year, so now that means I'll be studying. Normally I'll be researching or writing though.

This is very interesting to me @The History Kid as I've only really seen DNAngel and the first few episodes of Chrno Crusade from the shows you've mentioned. It sounds like you've got a whole range of classics on your list that I'm still neglecting. Here I don't even really know what Black Cat is about.
Do you have MAL or AP account we can have a look at, I'd be interested in seeing what you've completed.

@Supernatural-Knight - Those were, like I said, I think my first two that I really got involved with. Black Cat's story depends on if you're reading the manga or watching the anime as they differ in a few ways. Black Cat's writer ended up going on to work on To Love Ru, and you can see that in a few of the characters.

As for an MAL/AP account - can't say that I do. I'm more hands off on the stuff than I used to be.

It'd be anime since I'm almost an anime exclusive fan. Manga just doesn't do anything for me. So you don't use these listing sites either. Does that mean you use a word document or do you just remember the ones you like and forget the rest?

Okay then, what anime have you seen recently that you enjoyed the most since you're getting back into this medium?

@Supernatural-Knight - I go off memory. Lists don't make much sense to me. If I liked it, I'll remember it. If I didn't like it, I won't. They have an audience, I'm just not one of them. Besides, I try to limit my online interactions as much as I can - or at the very least, stay under the radar.

At any rate, I also prefer the anime's over manga. I will read the novel of a show though almost every time, so I have both the .hack and SAO entries on my shelf, though the .hack novel was much more enthralling than the SAO one was. Not that I have anything against people who write fanfiction, but it really seemed like the SAO one was immature fanfiction. Anyway, you didn't ask me that...

The most recent anime's I've seen are Soul Eater, Konosuba, Isekai Quartet, and Saga of Tanya the Evil. I enjoyed Soul Eater until the last episode. I frankly felt like they mailed the ending in - couldn't be troubled to make something of substance, and so cliché. Konosuba and Isekai Quartet are my "this day really sucks, so let me put something dumb on TV" go-to's.

My favorite series right now has gone to Tanya, simply because I find it entertaining as an alternative-history presentation. I'm really hoping they pick it back up and press on with the story at some point. What has puzzled me about the series though has simply been that the main character has the benefit of applied knowledge, but seems to not use it frequently. You get to see her be an epic tactician, but she's a piss-poor logistician and for some reason doesn't even use half of the resources in knowledge she should have her circumstances considering. I'm hoping at some point that gets addressed.
