Strange, I thought this thread existed somewhere but I guess not.

I'm getting a new computer finally, yay!
Nothing ground breaking but infinitely better then what I have now (An Intel Core 2 Duo e4400? Lol does it even run internet?)

Well to be fair I spiffed it up as best I could so yes it did run some stuff. Enough with the old, my new computer down below

    ===========================================

    Intel I3 6300 3.8 GHz
So what if it's another duel core? This thing is still perfect for a budget guy like me. Besides with Intel's Hyper-Threading it does attempt to act like a four core. Considering that the only other option was to spend another 70$ on a true 4 core I5 was a bit too much, I'll stick with this.

    PSU
The powersupply is that EVGA 600B. I didn't know EVGA did powersupplies too? I have two GPU's from them, they have served me and my father well.
I think this is overkill but it was on sale. It's only an I3 and most GPU's are going for the low power stuff these days. Oh well, nice to have a high ceiling anyway.

    Motherboard
Some MSI board, forgot the number (M5? M7? Something Pro? I needed help picking this out but it looks pretty good) It has support obviously for the new architecture.

    RAM- 8GB 2800 mhz
8 gigs is enough. The real interesting tidbit here is the new DD4 memory. It allows for higher clock speeds like 2800 mhz. I hear it helps a CPU when it's called on more then the GPU. There seems to be benchmarks propping up to show this off. Anywhere from a 5 to 10 fps difference. And that was going from 1600mhz to 2333. The old prevailing wisdom was that RAM speed doesn't matter but maybe it will change now. Besides it was chump change (for me) going a little higher on the RAM

    GPU
    None...yet
I was going to buy the GTX 960 but I'm going to wait a bit. The money I saved from the processor would allow me to either buy a new GPU like this or a nice new monitor. The monitor I have now does some weird things on the edges from time to time. Hard to explain, I could only say that it's not on it's best behavior lately.
I'll wait on this one a bit. I had a GT 630 before but I get the feeling the stock graphics of this I3 is superior to it.
We'll see what 150-200$ will get me by the end of the year

    Solid State Drive
I converted to the SSD religion. I suggest you HDD people do the same. I will never again install an OS on a harddrive. Mechanical drives are now a slave race to the Solid State Drive overlords. No exceptions. As a HDD you must carry all the baggage, music, photos, and other high volume stuff. We SSD people get the blazing fast speed of everything else.
Join us and become part of the SSD PC MASTERRACE

:cough: sorry you get what I mean. Seriously it makes a difference. It even worked on that dreadful Core 2 Duo and that was at a gimped speed. I can't even imagine how fast it would be on a CPU that supports it fully.

    OS
I have a Windows 7 disc lying around. It's the deluxe\pro\ultimate\....you know the one that is high in the hiearchy.

That saves me a 100$ on that. If I remember correctly you could freely upgrade to Win 10 from 7 right? I don't think I will though.

Overall about 560$. Actually the shipping put a large dent into this. A friend is going to build it for me as a favor, I know about computers pretty well but time and confidence isn't there. I picked out the parts with his help too.

CPU: AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishara 8-Core 4.0 GHz
    PSU: Rosewill RD-700 Power Supply
    MOBO: Gigagyte GA-970A-UD3P
    RAM: HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3 SDRAM 1600 (Model HX316C10FB/8) x3 (for a total of 24 GB)
GPU: Asus GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB GDDR5
    SSD: ADATA Premier SP600 128GB
    HDD: WD Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200RPM 64MB Cache
OS: Still rockin the Windows 10 Tech Preview. Can't beat using a free operating system. No crashes yet from this desktop.
Chasis: Rosewill Stealth ATX Mid Game Case

I bought mine in a bundle for $741, free shipping. I already had a 27" monitor from 3 years back, so I didn't have to worry about that when I bought my DIY desktop.

I had to buy an optical drive so I could watch anime on it and since my PS3 stopped working, I needed a way to watch Blu-Ray. So I bought an ASUS BW-12B1ST optical drive, that reads/writes Blu-Ray and Read/Writes CD/DVDs. It was the cheapest out of all other Blu-ray drives I found, and most of them were read-only.

As for the Windows 10 upgrade offer: Yes, the upgrade to Windows 10 is free for the first year for Windows 7 and Windows 8 (8.1) users. Anyone that doesn't upgrade within that first year has to pay the upgrade price. The Tech Preview is free, but at the cost of stability. Put yourself in the "Slow" ring in the Tech Preview and you have the benefits of a free operating system and stability. I bought Windows 8 Pro just in-case, but it looks like I won't need to use it after all to keep Windows 10, as long as I keep it in the Tech Preview program.
Be very careful with Windows 7 though, because it is eligible for the Windows 10 upgrade. My parents bought gaming machines and specifically requested Windows 7 on the computers, but when I took a look, they were forced into installing Windows 8/8.1 for some reason. I told them that they don't have Windows 7, they have Windows 8 (or 8.1), but their receipt said Windows 7, so I don't know what happened but they didn't get the correct OS installed on the customized gaming computers they bought. Microsoft may or may not force Windows 10 on you. I do know they've been known to be extremely pushy and force you do download Windows 10's upgrade files, even when you didn't reserve your upgrade. If you don't want Windows 10, exercise caution when an upgrade prompt pops up, if it pops up at all. You might unknowingly wind up installing Windows 10.

Personally, Windows 10 is great. I upgraded a really old laptop from the Vista era from Vista to 7, then to Windows 10. I welcomed the change as it made accessing my shared files a whole lot easier than that HomeGroup bullcrap. I couldn't get that thing to work worth crap across different operating systems (both of which actually supported HomeGroup).

My rig is an Asus G74Sx, a laptop.

    Processor-
    Intel Core i7 -2630 QM CPU @ 2.00Ghz

    GPU-
    Nvidia Geforce GTX 560m, 2Gb

    RAM-
    12Gb (Ithink it is 2 RAM cards @ 6Gb)

    OS-
Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit

    Storage-
    SSD @ 250 Gb
    HDD @ 500 Gb

I found this on Craigslist. The soldier selling it used it for watching movies, and decided to sell it when he decided it would be better for him to build a computer for watching movies, since he already had consoles for gaming. Well, I ended up paying $500 dollars for it. I think that is a pretty good price, considering it originally cost $1000+ dollars. I was worried that maybe there was a secret problem I was not told about, but it seems that there is no problem I can find. It can handle games with Xbox 360 graphics quite well. This thing makes a nice laptop for home, but would be a pain to lug around. For travel and classes I have an Asus Transformer, but it is quite low powered and I will not say anything further on it.

Sounds like you got a good rig going. If your not familiar with these folks on youtube I would suggest watching them if only for their mini series they have been doing. There called LinusTechTips and I would refer their Scrapyard Wars PC Challenges. They each get a set budget to buy old/new PC parts all in a attempt to finish with the best PC. It's really shocking to see what they can get with the budget that there given. If you search hard enough and long enough you can get those killer deals.

    CPU: Intel I3 6300 4Ghz.
PSU: EVGA 600w Bronze Plus. Forgot the exact model.
MOBO: MSI Z170A Gaming M7. Had some early problems regarding the ram but some bios updates cleared that up nicely
RAM: 8GB 2X4 DDR4 2800. Forgot the model, maybe Adata. Was a cheapo brand but the warranty is good so meh. Rare for Ram to crap out on you anyway.
GPU: AMD Radeon 360. Not great but not bad either. Plays everything I have at high settings so anything more is overkill for my needs
SSD: 120GB Samsung. I'm afraid of actually putting anything else on it lol. Runs the OS really good.
HDD: Toshiba 1 TB.... Yeah that died. Got a 1TB WD instead.
Case: Some Cooler Master one, nice cheap stuff that's better then a plain black box
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate. Oh yeah, I got "tricked" to update to Windows 10. Microsoft changed the layout of that spyware popup and I accidently clicked to upgrade. Of course they can't force me to accept the terms of agreement so it had no choice but to revert to Win 7. Jokes on you Microsoft. Was hopefully able to erase all remants of Win 10 and their popups.
Monitor: A really old Dell. Got to give em credit though, it lasted longer then the harddrive
Mouse:Worth mentioning, a wireless Logitich G602. Not the best Logitech model but I really like the design and the reasonable buttons on the side.

So you're the trucker who cut me off! F you buddy! That's me trying to pass your fat ass and trying to get home! :p

Five years later, still have the same rig. The GPU is a 1070 ti (previous placeholder was a leftover AMD 7770. Obvious bottleneck is the I3 but honestly not a big deal. All my games only use two cores and the high single core performance is still applicable for the vast majority of everything. My games default to the highest settings anyway. Did get one of those fancy big monitors (It curves!). Bit of a meme but looks cool entering the room. 240 refresh rate, 1440 resolution, freesync, the good stuff.

Also upped the RAM to 32 because of a really good deal. All in all, still will use this build for years to come.
