Toei Animation Creates Net Anime Based on 'Butt Detective' Children's Books

    Toei Animation opened a website on Wednesday for an anime based on Troll's Oshiri Tantei (Butt Detective) picture book series for children. The Toei Animation YouTube channel posted a three-minute preview of the anime.



    The anime will be available on Toei Animation's YouTube channel and the YouTube KIDS app, which also launched in Japan on Wednesday. Megumi Ishitani is directing the series.

    Yuko Sanpei (Boruto) plays the title character, a detective whose face looks like a butt. Ayaka Saito (Jewelpet's Ruby) plays Oshiri Tantei's assistant, a dog named Brown. Ikkei Watanabe is the narrator and the voice of Chief Maltese. The cast also stars Takahiro Sakurai (Mob Psycho 100's Reigen) as Kaitō U (Mysterious Thief U), Reika Uyama (Ronja the Robber's Daughter's Birk) as Suzu-san, and Gaku Kudō as Būtarō.

    Poplar published the first Oshiri Tantei book in Japan in 2012, and the series now has a total of six picture books and four books aimed at early grade schoolers. The books have more than 1.5 million copies in print.
