What is your favorite anime genre? It can be any genre that's out there.

My personal favorites are: action, adventure, fantasy, science fiction, and supernatural

I know I posted this on the temp forums.

Well I don't know about favorites but I tend to like comedy, romances, drama, supernatural and fantasy. Those are just the ones I tend to like more I watch all genres. But I don't tend to jump right into mechas I don't know why.

I'm the same way. Don't care to much for mecha's except for certain ones.

I don't really have an favorite genres i vary from what ever i feel like for that time. The genre i tend to stay away from is sports though. I just can't get into them for one reason or another

Yes. Sports anime is really bad.

    Some sports anime are good.

For example Saki is a good sports anime.

@Sir-Maddy: It's more of a club/game anime tho. You can't really call Mahjong a sport. Then again the whole tournament thing does have the sort of sport's competition dynamic to it so i suppose it could qualify. Either way you're right Saki's top notch!

I would suggest Battle Athletes Victory as a good sport anime... tho it's set in the future so all the sports are made up and it's quite silly some times.

As for what my favourite genre is it's a toss up between Slice-of-life Rom-Com and Sci-fi/Fantasy Action... altho sometimes you can't do better than something Dark, Psychological and a complete mind f**k.

I have not seen a sports anime before though I do know some anime use a tournament style of progression, Yu Yu Hakosho is quite guilty of this (to be fair the first half was a tournament lol). I like sports and sports movies though! Maybe I should check one out one day.

Anyway any kind of science fiction easily grabs my attention. I also like my anime to be of a darker tone with a sense of helplessness for the main characters. Anytime I start to fear for the safety of a character that I attach myself to, then the anime has surpassed my expectations. The key here though is if I can care for the characters to begin with, that is the most important part. The ending is irrelevant if the whole show can keep me guessing to the end.

Sounds to gothic to you guys? Don't worry I enjoy a good over the top\comedy\action anime to break up the mood in between.

I'm really boring, just Action and Adventure. Although I can get into a lot of other types of shows, and many of them become my favorite shows, There just aren't enough shows like them to make me say I really like that genre.

You can't judge sports anime without watching Hajime no Ippo. That kid can really box.
I tend to enjoy Psychological, Horror, Mecha (of the super variety), action/adventure, and certain sports. Aka the sports that I like in the real world like baseball and boxing. Soccer and Basketball don't do it for me.
Basically I'll take anything (especially if you apply symbolism and mysticism), except ecchi. I can't stand ecchi, except in manga form. I enjoyed Rosario and History's Greatest Disciple Kenichi in manga form but couldn't stand them in anime form.
Possibly because I don't understand why you would watch softcore when hardcore is so easily accessible.
Oh I also don't tend to understand moe. I've experienced moe in people, but not in anime.

I've heard the Rosario adaptation was meant to be pretty bad anyway.

Well I can't stand Freezing, High School of the Dead or Strike Witches. All of which were shown to me by my former ecchi loving anime club president.

    Conspiracy.
    Mine are:
Action, Adventure, Comedy, Supernatural, Tiny bit of Mystery, Martial Arts, Tiny bit of Ecchi, Tiny bit of Tragedy, a bit of Historical and Seinen, and Fantasy, and some Shounen, and Romance.

    Edit:
You can’t really call Mahjong a sport.

It is a sport. From my little knowledge of Mahjong from pieces of chinese movies, shows, and other stuff I read relating to it, it is most definitely a sport in China. The old people love it like it's a drug.

It's not man, there's a big difference between games that are played competitively at a professional lvl and sports. Sports require some form of athleticism and Majhjong, by any definition, is a tabletop game where the skill lies in one's mental ability well over any physical requirement.

Does someone need to re-watch all of Saki again?

Don't tempt me cause it wouldn't take an awful lot to convince me to go do that! ;) Still i stand by my words, just because it has a tournament doesn't make it a sport, you get darts and chess tournaments over here and they ain't sports... hell i've seen Ludo tournaments before.
