Does anyone care much for the mecha anime's? I know some people who like them a lot and others that don't. Me personally don't care much for mecha's much except for some exceptions such as Robotech.

Like I said and maybe what got you thinking about making this thread was I just tend not to jump right into them I have never watched one I hated though so I don't know why I am so hesitant about watching them.

Mecha genre is what I watch the least, the ones that I enjoyed were Gurren Lagann and Lagrange. If it's worth watching, I'll watch it

I'm not really into mecha's, but I have seen a fair amount of them. There are some nice exceptions like Code Geass, TTGL and Suisei no Gargantia with mecha genre but still making the anime really good.

I care for them. In fact they are the genre I watch most. I have seen every form of Gundam show or OVA. I even own some old drama cds. Macross was nice. Patalabor, Geass, etc. Love em all. Sure they are some stinkers but overall its my most watched genre. The only thing I dont like in the mecha genre is the Super Robot ones. Like G Gundam, Giant Robo, or Gigantor. Not my cup of tea.

Well, I liked Big O and mostly Gurren Lagann. Of the few mecha anime (few more but can't remember their names) I've seen I like most of them.

Like I said, it all just depends on which anime it is. Everyone has an exception.

The mecha genre was what got me started on anime. Robotech and Gundam Wing on Toonami were some of my first exposures to the medium and I loved them both. It has actually become somewhat of a surprise to me that within the rest of the anime community it is more of a niche, whereas people who don't normally watch anime might be more inclined to like it. I have a friend whose brother likes Gundam Wing but doesn't much care about other anime, and then there are plenty of people I've met who are more active in the medium and watch nearly everything *except* mecha. It's kinda strange, but I can sort of see why it is the way it is. Mecha tends to be more political and darker than your average anime, and in many ways plays to the interests of traditional western audiences rather than the rest of the anime community. This might also explain why Gurren Lagann is able to appeal more to the typical anime audience. It's less dark and more upbeat like a more traditional shounen anime despite also being a mecha series.

Anyway, this concludes Kyouma's armchair psychologist session for the day. :p

Hmm, I think it's less about the mecha themselves that I care about but instead the pilots that are behind them. The action and stuff don't really change my opinion of the genre even if robots are cool.

mecha was big, like how WW2 shooters were big in games, but now, in order to pull off a good mecha, it needs a GOOD plot, so, more of the recent mechas have been good, but rare

It depends I like ones that have Military forces in em' that are some what believable such as infantry escorted by mechs and mechs supported by airpower  such as depicted in Full Metal Panic! Or heck you could use Ghost in the Shell as infantry being the mechs.

I love Mecha, I started my anime lovin with Burst Angel.

what gets me pumped about mechs is the tech behind every aspect of it form hydraulics to power plants to pilot interfaces............
