This thread is for people to post and discuss their favorite anime movies. The only requirement I have for this thread is that the movies cannot be any prequels, sequels, or adaptations of an Anime TV Series.
I will make another thread for anime series movie adaptations next week.
Here are my top 5 favorite anime movies

    5. Akira - One of the best sci-fi action anime i have ever seen.

    4. Whisper of The Heart- My favorite Studio Ghibli anime not directed by Miyazaki and one of my favorite S of L animes.

    3. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind: This anime I saw as a little kid and love it now as much as I did back then. I believe it is Miyazaki's best film.

2.Sword of The Stranger- My favorite samurai anime with one of my favorite anime characters, Nanashi.

    1. The Place Promised In Our Early Days: This masterpiece directed by Makoto Shinkai is my favorite anime movie of all time and shows off Shinkai's ability as a real character driven director.

According to MAL, my favourite anime movie is the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya (it's pretty good, it's definitely the best part of the series, because she's not in it).
The book was better, because it explained everything, but you said no sequels, prequels or adaptations

This leaves me with 5cmps which I didn't like.

I liked The Garden of Words, but I was trying to sleep while watching it, so I would have to rewatch it to actually get everything about it.

I'm just going to go ahead and skip the classics (akira/studio ghibli etc) I've been watching quite a few movies lately, there have been some really really good ones.

Watched Redline yesterday - There was so much depth and character in the world created in this movie I was thoroughly impressed.
Wolf Children has been a recent favourite - Wonderful story, lots of feels.
Panama Inverted - Interesting concept and a pretty unique story.
    Summer Wars - Thoroughly enjoyable

This was the first Ghibli movie I watched when I was growing up - the US released a version called Warriors of the Wind and cut it up to make it more little kiddy friendly. I resisted watching the un-cut version because I didn't want to tarnish the memories I had of this movie - But eventually I gave in and it still remains my favourite anime movie. My very favourite thing about this movie is actually the song right at the end which is weird, haha.

Now if I were to pick the top 5, here they are:
    1. Love Live! The School Idol Movie: simply put, it's a very recent movie I've watched and boy, this one made me cry a few times at the end
    2. One Piece Film Z: The story was good and the action was also good, in my opinion
    3. Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods: This anime was part of my childhood like most of us and I enjoyed the movie when I saw it in theaters
    4. Fairy Tail: Phoenix Priestess: As a fan, I can't say any negative things about it, it's very entertaining
    5. The Last: Naruto the Movie: Pure love story and I enjoyed every moment in the movie until the end, that's the only positive thing I can say

It really was a great movie! The group who sang the ending song was Mr.Children, my favorite J-Rock band. You should check their music out!!

    5. Mobile Suit Patlabor - An excellent movie in my eyes, I loved the idea of the villain quite literally setting up the chessboard - Declaring Checkmate and walking out of the room leaving them to think out where the checkmate was and how to make the correct next movie.

    4. Naruto: The Last Movie - What more can I say? Hinata finally got her man and the world cheered for her

    3. Perfect Blue - I love Psychological Thrillers when done correctly and Perfect Blue was the first Anime that I saw that did this - Left me nervous, Scared and surprised by the ending

    2. Legends of the Overfiend - Yes this is going to be controversial but there is a reason I have this movie so high on the list, The Anime was the one that introduced me to Anime as a whole, the first one I ever watched... It may not be the best movie but it will always have a special place in my heart forever.

    1. Ghost in the Shell - An absolute classic

    Ghibli Classivs FTW.

    Though I would have to place them like this in order of my favorites;

1: Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
    2: Spirited Away
    3: Howel's Moving Castle
    4:My Neighbor Totoro
    5: Kiki's Delivery Service

I grew up watching Ghibli Classics. I shy away from mainstream anime movies like Naruto and One Piece because the quality of those movies are far inferior to that of the classics. I enjoyed Akira when I first watched it, but later I read the manga, and was sorely disappointed in how the movie worked out. They chopped it up too much. They should have made 6 moves, one for every Akira volume. Since the volumes are over 1k pages each.
