Yuri!!! on Ice TV Anime's 1st Teaser Reveals Staff, Cast

The official website for the Yuri!!! on Ice anime project began streaming the show's first teaser video on Sunday. The video reveals the anime will be a television series, and also reveals the staff and cast. The website has also revealed a key visual.

Manga creator Mitsurou Kubo (Moteki, 3.3.7 Byooshi) and director Sayo Yamamoto (Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, Michiko & Hatchin) are credited with the original work for the series. Yamamoto is also directing and overseeing the scripts for the series, and Kubo is designing the original characters and drawing the storyboards. Additionally, Tadashi Hiramatsu (Parasyte -the maxim-) is adapting the character designs for animation, Kenji Miyamoto is credited with the figure skating choreography, Taro Umebayashi (aka milk from PIANO) and Taku Matsushiba(PIANO) are composing the music, and Keisuke Tominaga (Kids on the Slope, Terror in Resonance music director) is the music producer. MAPPA will animate the series.

The series will star (in the order they appear in the video, name romanizations not confirmed):

Kouki Uchiyama as Yuri Prisezki
Junichi Suwabe as Victor Nikifolov
Toshiyuki Toyonaga as Yūri Katsuki

Yamamoto already directed an "Endless Night" short featuring figuring skating for the Japan Anima (tor)'s Exhibition (Japan Animator Expo) project from Studio Khara and Dwango last August. Atsushi Kamijo designed the characters for the short and Kenji Miyamoto handled choreography. Eiji Abiko served as key animation director.​

 

This would be a first for me as well. Iv'e never heard of a figure skating anime and was curious if a search would yield one. The only anime I came across was Ginban Kaleidoscope which iv'e neither seen or heard of. As for the PV you thought that looked really similar to the animator short from last year I couldn't say. Id'e have to see that short from last year. I'll be honest this may be something id'e find myself interested in watching just because it's such a oddity. Well i'm happy it perked your interest Super.

 

Yup it caught me by surprise that another figuring skating anime exists. That's not to say there isn't more or possibly even a couple manga out there. Early this morning I didn't even check to see if it was a romance. Just to tired being 2:30am in the morning. I reckon we'll have something to discuss possibly be it this or something that'll air this spring. I'm still watching Dimension W and Assassination Classroom, although I'm a little behind on Assassination Classroom. I should be able to catch up now that Erased, Fairy Tail, Shoujo-tachi wa Kouya wo Mezasu, & Prince of Stride have all finished up. Well to be technical Fairy Tail is on more of a hiatus. I had so much piled on my plate from the winter season and somehow iv'e been able to stick with it. As for why your like this I, couldn't say although I don't think you are alone. Feel I share a degree of this myself just not quite as much as you though. Now if we can only convince @BK-201

 

Well that was easier than I thought it would be. You of all people must be truly shocked. It's even more surprising that most of the cast appears to be male.

I don't know if it counts but Pretty Rhythm Aurora Dream is a figure skating idol anime geared towards, I believe, middle school girls. It definitely isn't like what Yuri!!! on Ice looks to be but it does have figure skating.
