Great characters and i liked the idea of this anime. Somehow i didn’t really like it though. There were fun and good moments but there were some terribly boring moments aswell. It didn’t live up to what i wanted to see. Because of the characters and a few good moments (Mikuni and his sister’s story for example) i ended up giving it a 7/10. I’m glad i watched it though.

Are we talking [C] The Money of Soul and Possibility Control here? Cause i am shocked at you finding parts of it boring if we are.

Same. Such great series, every episode was interesting and different than usual anime's.

We are. Why is it shocking?

    ^What he said.

Seriously tho, i feel that anime is just packed full of stuff going on, so much stuff going on, there isn't a single second wasted, it's intense! It's only an, what, 12/13 episode series and yet so much happens in the story so many sub-tangents are setup and resolved that i swear that i felt afterwards that i've watched content worthy of a full 24/26 episode series, and yet at the same time i also felt it was too short and i wanted more! So that's why i find it shocking that you could've been bored during any of it, but each to their own.

Like you said, each their own taste. It didnt feel like that at all for me. I probably look at other stuff than you in anime though. I know i do compared to Ovyda. But first off all i had to turn the dub off cuz the sub was way too boring for me. That says enough i guess.

Yeah i think we established back on JDR that our tastes are pretty deviant, altho looking at the comparison of our lists on MAL we can agree on some things, but that same list also very much shows how very different we are. Nout wrong with it tho, as we both chant "each to their own" but also with a difference of opinion comes new perspective. ;)

@BlurredExistence There are some differences in our rates, but usually they are identical or just different by 1.. Nonetheless, I am yet to finish Higurashi and Elfen Lied. Both of them I rated low after few eps, but it was years ago (dropped back then), now I feel like I'll like them more. http://myanimelist.net/shared.php?u1=BlurredExistence&u2=Ovyda

    Zipang 9/10

I would have never watched this if my internet hadn't had some connection issues. To my huge surprise from the very first episode it already caught my interest and I ended up watching 7 episodes without a break.

I personally want to give title "Cliffhanger" to this anime. Like 90% of the episodes ended up with a cliffhanger... Don't get me wrong, I actually loved this. I kind of regret it aired before I started watching anime, because this anime had enormously huge variety of topics to discuss. Every episode was very different from the previous one and many turnarounds happened. I was sometimes even confused so who's right and who's wrong, who's the ally and who's the enemy... Great mind games (not as great as Code Geass and Death note tho) were played during the episodes and it was almost impossible to predict what will be their next move.

Basically this anime starts with 21st century's battle ship leaving the port for some training exercises and encountering some sort of anomaly that sends them back in time to 1942 year (60 years ago). This was the time when Japan were in a war against USA. The next 26 episodes of this anime is how the whole crew struggles to avoid any contact with the people from those years so that they wouldn't change the history.

However, can you actually avoid everyone when you are in the middle of a war? Obviously not...you need food, fuel and other things to survive... and this is were the fun begins... The battle ship from 21st century has such advanced weapons that are enough to destroy the whole USA army (it's realistic, in 60 years weapons do advance that much). Moreover, they know the whole history of this war. In other words they know every movement of both Japan's and USA's armies and what were the turning points of war and just basically they were overpowered. However, they didn't want to participate in this war at all, this was not their war, so this what makes the anime so great... Just how they try to avoid any minimal contact with anyone and what happens when they finally get spotted by both Americans and Japanese people...

The realism of this show was incredible if you don't think about this "time travelling thing". Zipang did a good job portraying the moral issues and how they were dealt with within the crew and their opponents/allies. However, those 26 episodes weren't enough to finish the series. They ended up on another big cliffhanger. Of course, there is manga, but... the disappointment of not having a sequel is huge.

    Battle Girls: Time Paradox.

For the good amount of comedy the anime had, and the perverted and crazy moments with Shiro, I gave the anime a score of 8/10.
And this isn't the first time I've seen the warring states generals as females, but they were as crazy as this one.

@Ovyda: In all honesty my list is a bit in a messed up state right now ratings wise. Everything rated excellent and masterpiece i stand by but there are a ton of animes i rated 1 point higher than i should of cause: ANIME! There are also a few examples of animes i've hated by rated positively because i felt they deserved it for technical reasons, i'm over that now. But anyway, looking thru your list i do agree with the majority of your ratings and there's a ton of animes that you've got that are on my Plan to Watch list, and so i happily accepted your friend request! ;)

About Elfen Lied and Higurashi: Do give them another go man they are examples of truly masterful works of anime. Having said that tho i won't blame you if you find either of them unsettling and struggle with the watch but do persevere thru it cause these animes deserve a proper viewing and a informed opinion. Also in reference to Higurashi: I was trying to convince Nono to give it another rewatch because, while he had finished it, he didn't like it because he couldn't understand properly what was going on and that's because a lot of that's explained in the second series so i suggest to you as well that if you do rewatch it then set yourself to do both the first and second series in one go. It is just those two series that cover the original story from the VNs, after that things get... stupid (imo).

@BlurredExistence, I watched Higurashi with Ovyda a few months ago and we both had the same opinion on it that it was strange that after 4 eps it all started over again while we were expecting a new MC after that guy died. We were told that this anime goes in 4 episode arcs and that there is actually a plot behind this why they are experiencing these horrors over and over again. Can you tell me if there is more to the plot? If i'm ever gonna watch it i'll need motivation :p

@Batosai: Yeah that's the thing people get very confused about, so don't worry it's happened to us all (well not me, but then i researched Higurashi quite excessively before i watched the anime or played the original VN). Do not worry there is a plot and it does all tie together and it's actually very clever cause the story is separated into, i think, 12 separate chapters (only 10 or 11 of which are in the anime) and 6 of these are question archs, they rase the issues, generate the confusion, create the suspense and the other 6 are answer archs, which as you can guess bring some clarity to what's going on. For each question arch there's an answer one that sort of reflects it and tho the clock is reset at the end of each arch you can see similarities that help you not only match up which answer goes to which question but also see the events from a different perspective and once you come to the end, to the big secret that's propelling the whole thing forward, you find that they all tie together to explain what's going on and witness their attempts to break free from it. The premise also allows for the characters to be played around with a lot allowing for them to be broken in various interesting ways, which you just don't get the implications of if you drop it too early.

It's an amazing bit of storytelling, imo, it's a shame that so many get discouraged by how confusing it is initially.

BTW: While the first series is not all question archs the majority of the answer archs are in the second series so once again i say if you rewatch it please watch both one after the other or you'll miss out of many of the major revelations (and most of the story for that matter).

My main reason of dropping Higurashi was the art actually :D I hated it and still hate.

    Vampire Knight

    Story 7/10
The story was definitely interesting and entertaining, but it could have been executed better. During whole 13 episodes, they didn't fully explain what exactly are the differences between Pure-blooded Vampires - Aristocrat Vampires - Normal Vampires and Level E Vampires. Of course, basic knowledge was given, but I feel like they could have gone into more details. Moreover,
one of the things in my opinion this show lacked was a good antagonist. The antagonist appears only at the end of the series, so until that moment you are confused so who's the bad guy? Is it Vampires or not... Nonetheless, it was obvious that all 3 main characters have had rather harsh past. However, only Zero's (one of the MC) past was explained further. Even though, there's still another season for VK, I am disappointed that 1st season wasn't used to introduce the characters so that I could get more into the story. On the other hand, this made the show mysterious and less predictable as you don't know what kind of persons they actually are (exception main heroine).

    Art 7/10
Nothing special, but it wasn't bad either. The art in my opinion was decent and did have some unique traits. Eyes of Yuuki was really different from what I am used to see and I couldn't say I actually liked... but everything else was appealing. The Vampires as expected were showed as more beautiful than humans, however I wasn't really fond of the bishounen looks.

    Sound 10/10
Now that was incredible soundtrack. Both opening and ending songs were so good that gave me chills while listening to them. Moreover, soundtracks fit very well with the rather dark mood of the series.

    Character 8/10
My feelings towards the characters constantly kept changing. Sometimes they were very appealing. I loved to see how they have some inner thoughts and struggle to reach the answer they are looking for. All 3 MC's have a deep past, but none of them really feel like sharing the pain with anyone. And this is where comes the annoying/irritating part. The heroine Yuuki crosses the line, she goes too much into Zero's private life. Of course, that's rather normal for a protagonist, but that's what disappoints me the most - making a very typical heroine who always goes after the person who has some problems and ends up in some kind of trouble and getting saved by either Zero or the Pure-blooded Vampire Kaname. However, ignoring this go after-get into trouble-be saved part, the characters are very different from each other and that's what makes the story better. The ending gave me a hope that 2nd season will answer many questions about the characters and show more development of them.

    Enjoyment 9/10
Even though, I wasn't really complimenting the show. I can honestly say it was still very enjoyable. The soundtrack makes up for many minor issues I have with this anime. Furthermore, I love to see when characters have some deep inner thoughts and are struggling to find the answer they are looking for. So the only real problem I have with VK is that Yuuki barely changed through whole series and was too much of a typical heroine.

    Overall 8/10
I think it's a good rate for this anime. The lack of information about Vampires and MC's history + lack of character development (heroine) were the negative aspects. The OST was definitely the best part of the anime. I believe this a perfect show for teenage girls due to bishounen looks of Vampires, but as for the guys it's nothing that spectacular. Although, it is definitely interesting and worth watching.

@Ovyda: The art's something you can either adjust to or ignore if you get into the story man. I personally think that's a poor reason to turn down an anime that does something so different from all the others. Again tho, each to their own.

About Vampire Knight, i found Yuuki to be an unbelievably whiny pathetic girl during that series, she pretty much ruined most of the anime for me. Fortunately she becomes a stronger character in Vampire Knight Guilty.

Vampire Knight? You know I was kind of enjoying the show for a while. Sometimes though for me certain things might irrationally make me hate a show for silly reasons. I won't spoil anything but let's just say I didn't approve of the...outcome.

@BlurredExistence when the story is good, I can ignore the art. But... back then when I watched it I was really satisfied what happened after 4 eps (revival/back in time). And that art was hurting my eyes... moreover, some tiny girls go and kill people... looked very stupid to me. However, even tho I read reviews about 1st season (I know why and what is happening) now I'm still enjoying a bit more. Not sure why, but I have kind of urge to see some yandere's :D

As for VK, seems like again we think similarly :D Yes, Yuuki was the most annoying/irritating part of the series. Will start watching 2nd season tonight.

@Ovyda: It's far more involved than that man. Actually i reckon the first two story archs are probably the most dull, possibly because they are just straight "people go nuts and kill people for no conceivable reason", after that it picks up a lot, it starts getting more involved with the psychological aspects as well as delving into the greater mystery of what's going on, how and why and it keeps up with that (and keeps you guessing as to the truth) right up until the final 2 story archs (which if my memory serves right are the ones concerned with tackling the issue).

I might pick it up sometime then. You made me quite curious @BlurredExistence [IMG]

@Batosai: Glad to hear it man, if you have any problems when you do just tap me up man i'll be more than happy to straighten out any confusion you're having... or at least put to rest your fears again. ;)

Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars 7/10
Well this is definitely one of those anime's that you have like VERY low expectations and it turns out to be quite good and entertaining. I watched in dubs and it was quite decent. The whole plot is kinda split into two. Half the episode it feels like another slice of life + school genre anime, and then suddenly it becomes sci-fi with supernatural powers. Oh forgot to mention, aliens do exist in this anime and they are very important. Story revolves around one certain town where natives know about the existence of aliens while nobody else knows. Some of the natives have some special powers and there's one certain person with the power of Shingu. They use this power to defend against "evil" aliens. It's a complicated story, but still quite amusing. It's rather easy anime, I personally just laid back and watched. Time surely went fly even tho some jokes weren't even close to being funny, but it's not a comedy anime, so it was alright. I did like those super powers and the whole plot about aliens how there's an alien federation, how Earth is undeveloped in their eyes, how every character is unique in their own way. Definitely a worth watching anime if you like shounen anime's.
