Yeah practically they're useless. Even that one mission before the last one with the lava? You would think "Oh hey they kept warning me to check my heat levels. Guess I'll spam the flamers at last!"

They throw Elementals and ballistic slinging Thors at you
At least the level before had no Heat build up, ER PPC spam away!

Have you tried stacking your mech with a full load out of machine guns? Turn on the infinite ammo option and put 1 ton of ammo and you won't believe how overpowering 12 machineguns are.
Why did they make them weigh 2 tons in MW4!? They're completely useless!

I'll skip MWO, I don't think my computer could handle it.

    What about Mech assault?

Machine guns were alright in MW3. But, yeah, in MW4 they're utterly useless. I love finding a lake or other body of water and using it to spam ER PCCs. =P

I've not played MechAssault. I've not even heard of it, until now. I see that it's also set in the Battletech universe. How does it compare to MechWarrior?

It's what I call "MechWarrior for Dummies", The game was *very* arcade like. They took away the customization and your lancemates. Heck they took away your ammo too and instead the battlefield had these powerups that upgraded your weapons from tier 1 (free ammo) all the way to tier 3. Lasers become more powerful, missles get more numourus, and your autocannons get better.

Over the course of the game you get stronger mechs so your load out slightly changes. Either way you still get the big three, energy weapons, ballistics, and missles.

I was immesely disapointed in the total lack of customization. The one on one battles against other mechs was pretty fun though. Kind of dumbed down for the console controls but I guess that couldn't be helped. I remember the game was well recieved but it ruffled the feathers of people who wanted a real Mechwarrior game.
Have no idea about the second MechAssualt as I didn't play it.
Have no clue why they didn't even do a third game.

This entire series needs a breath of fresh air.

It's been out for a while. There's a interesting story on this, about a year ago Microsoft released the game "FREE" through some group called MekTec Studios. The only problem is MecTec doesn't exist anymore.

It's impossible to download the game through them and Microsoft hasn't really said anything else on the matter. No one really knows if the game is still free. One of those gray areas in the legal world.

Anyway all this talk on this subject fired up my nostalgia goggles. I think I'll play through the third again! Maybe I'll take screenies...

And this ends my thread jacking.

One small issue with modern games, unless you are playing a chest high wall shooter or JRPG, you will not get much in the way of in-depth customization for your gear or squad mates, sadly alot of devs don't see the market in it, an example of this is the new battle front game being done by dice, they are making battle field with a star wars skin job, not the battle front we know and love. (taking out space to land battles and now the single player campaign). they are doing these things because "the data points show people don't like this kinda thing".
    But we all want it!

sorry went off on a tangent there.
