Notice June 2015 Newsletter

It has been awhile since I have done one of these. I apologize for my inactivity as of late. But those of you who pay attention already know what's going on in that regard..

First off I wanted to start with an update on our anime. Now that the amazing @steveyk started uploading for us again we're quickly catching up on the much needed fixes of the Putlocker/Firedrive hosts. I'd say 80% of our content has at least one working host now. And with 1,131 anime on the site that's just over 900 anime available for you to watch free of charge! And with the amazing @Laxgirl16 staying on top of new releases, JustDubsOnline is your go-to place for newly released shows. Expect a majority of our shows to have at least one working host within the next month. I wanna say a special thanks to @Dirtie00 @Laxgirl16 @steveyk @IssyBee @Stereoanlange @Batosai @TwistedDesires and @sarah wright for their hard work in getting us back on track. The take downs of Putlocker/Firedrive, Videoslasher and the strict policies of Uploadc really set us back. But with their hard work we're finally getting our content in order and providing you, the viewer, with a spectacular anime experience.

Next, I wanted to take a moment to inform everyone on the status of our download section. As some of you already know, Mega has become more strict with their TOS policy. A number of the uploaders including myself, steveyk and others have had their accounts completely suspended by Mega for repeated TOS violations. This prompted us to completely revamp our download section and move towards using new hosts. Although it is taking some time to finish we are using direct download links on some of our streaming sites such as mp4upload, uploadc and others. This allows us to upload something one time and produce not only a streaming link but a download link, for the original file, as well. We anticipate our download section to take a few more months to bring completely up to date. In the mean time the section will remain open to registered forum members only.

Up next, our forum event situation. Because of the general lack of interest in the monthly forum events we have currently put them on hold. Expect us to resume monthly forum events in the next couple of months. Despite offering awards for our events there has been a large disinterest in them and as a result not many people have been participating. the last two forum events, the reviews event and the creative writing event were the last events that we did. The reviews event was processed and decided on. We have yet to process the participants of the creative writing event. Expect to hear the results from that within the next few days.

And now, something important. I'm changing up a lot of staff related titles, responsibilities and obligations. The following will detail who/what is being changed and why.

@Kiri: Will be changed from assistant admin to server admin. This change will accurately reflect her current duties on the site. Nothing else will change aside from her official staff title. Her duties on the site will remain the same, aside from assisting any relevant staff in their duties.

@Jaysp656 will be changed from assistant admin to web admin. This change will accurately reflect his current duties on the site. Nothing else will change aside from his official staff title. His duties on the site will remain the same, aside from assisting any web developers in their duties.

@Severus will be changed to network admin. This change will accurately reflect his current duties on the site.

@Keiichi-Morisato will be changed from our JD News and Media to Information Security. With our site becoming increasingly more popular we will need someone experienced who can efficiently maintain the security on our site. And since Keiichi has a degree for Information Security he was the obvious choice for this new position.

@BaconMan8910 will be changed from Content Manager to JD News and Media. This change comes as a request for a lighter work load.

@Sir-Maddy will be returning under the JD News and Media title to help @Mark Denn with the news workload. She will also be reprising her role in helping with the official asylum games and forum events.

Our ad situation. If you haven't noticed, our ads have been down for almost two months now. The site has been living completely off of extra adsense money that has been saved each month and the little amount of donations we have been receiving. Funimation hit us a few times for DMCA notices and in an attempt to comply we're still getting flagged for more stuff with each dispute we file. This is not a trend we can continue so alternative means for ads are being deployed in the new couple weeks. I will not go into specifics but expect our ads to be back up soon.

Max connections error. This is something we're fully aware of. In a nut shell, a max connections error will occur when too many connections to the site are trying to request something simultaneously. 150, 200 or even 250 connections on the site are just fine. But when say, 250 people are all trying to process a request on the site at the same time (like trying to load an anime page) a max connections error can occur. When I originally took over the site we had to change servers off of the expensive one Dubtopia was on. And considering the low traffic we were getting at the time a VPS was all we needed. Now that we are becoming more popular again we are in need of a server upgrade off of a VPS and on to a dedicated server. Once we eliminate shared hosting we can get rid of the max connections problem.

This is not something we can do until we are gaining monetization for our domain. With the amount of money I have saved before the ads went down I can financially support the site for another 6 or 7 months on our current server. The costs for the dedicated server we need are a lot more than our current one. This is something we can financially support IF we had our ads back up. But since we do not, I have to play it safe, and we will have to deal with the occasional max connections error which happens once every 1 or 2 days.

And finally. Our news posts will also be getting a major expansion. In addition to Mark and Maddy bringing you dubbed, subbed and manga news posts; @Heizengard will be bringing you video game news. @BK-201 will be bringing you movie and TV show news. And Keiichi will be bringing you tech news. JustDubs is more than just your go to place for anime. We're quickly becoming your go to place for news as well!
