So, episode three. Not gonna lie, it threw me off for a bit until the ball started to roll (ha. ha.). But overall, I'm happy that it was a somewhat good ending. I mean, I'm pretty sure that they both got reincarnated (I didn't really see anything that would warrant either one of them to be sent to the void). I found the story to be pretty touching. I also like how they waited until the two of them were in the elevator to basically wrap up how they were somewhat intertwined. Though, I do have to say, with how it opened... I thought this was going to be my parent/child or family put against each other scenario. But I'm pretty sure that won't happen. Oh well. And from last week when we learned about the assistant, I'm liking her presence. She gives a bit of a better human quality for Decim.

While I'm at it, I know it's early on, but I'm starting to notice a pattern with the organs being linked in the game have a symbolic meaning. Such as with the first one, drama didn't begin until the womb or an organ near it was hit. Then with this one, the whole heart thing started to give hints about them having feelings for each other. Hopefully this trend continues.
I also started to notice (and I know this is only the second game that was held) that no pain is involved if there's no hint of animosity between the two parties. Decim was sure to let the both of them know as soon as Shigeru grabbed the ball and felt the other woman's heart (or what was the representation of her heart) that it wouldn't hurt them, and even after the first ball was rolled, no pain was ever dealt. Once again, hopefully this trend continues.

Before I close this out, so far these are the games we've seen so far:
    Darts
    Bowling

Anyone care to take a guess on what could be next?
If what is shown in the opening are the different games, I'm hoping for air hockey sometime soonnnnn~

Yeah air hockey would be cool. Especially if they are pissed at eachother.

This episode was nice. I liked the friendly atmosphere for once. There was even a little mindfuck in it. I lol'd at Decim saying ''is 5 minutes enough?'' :D

Now what i was wondering is, did she lie about not knowing anything, or was that the truth? She was obviously afraid of him finding out who she really was and eventually told him she was someone different. Could have been an act.

I thought she was send to the void for not being completely honest to him, and he was reincarnated for still staying nice to her even after knowing the truth. Why do you think they both got reincarnated? I'm not sure if that's an option, i think we haven't heard about that yet. All i know is that there are 2 faces above both elevators, one with a smile and one with a sad face. The smile above the elevator that goes to reincarnation, the sad face above the elevator that goes to the void. Atleast that's what i think, but it was hard to see the faces. Only thing is that she was placed on the side that in both ep 1 and the OVA send people to the void.

Episode 3! certainly different and quite touching, it was a lot less painful game wise though, Imp presuming this is because depending who dies , and what they did wrong or bad before death, the game perhaps turns into a more freindly natured one...?

I thought this to, was quite emotional, I mean hat girl did it for him to get his attention, as simply did nit notice her. I hope they get reincarnated but im not sure yet, im not sure what to think with just 3 episodes in really. well with the moments they had together at least they enjoyed it!

Imo, she technically died for him, to get that recognition, he never payed attention to her, all she wanted was the person she loved. In terms of not telling him , i guess she just wanted the last of her moments to be with the guy she wanted all along. And i have no idea about the elevators, to early to tell....
    Overall great ep

    And I predict basketball next

Episode 4~! Not gonna lie, I ended up crying a fair bit at this episode.
So, it seems that two people that die at the same time and have the same reason for death end up together in Decim's bar. This week we had Misaki, who was a television star of sorts and Yousuke, who seemed to be a young adult who may have still been in high school or something. The theme of the death was something that had to do with family. Before you get the whole picture, it seems that both of them were avoiding their families, but as the story progressed, the driving force behind things became clear. The progression of this story was pretty well paced as they were put up against each other and once Decim introduced the tool used for judgment, I had an idea that it was used to bring out someone's true desires.
When Yousuke's joystick fell apart, I was pretty shocked to see that he didn't really react but instead, he pushed through. I kind of was pegging him as the one to lose it at first due to the fact that the only piece of information you initially say of him was that he was ignoring his mother who was setting the table and went to him room to eat something else. At first, he seemed like he wanted noting to do with his family but at the end we found out that was not the case, he seemed like he was possibly a bit afraid to accept his father's new wife as his mother. On the other end of the spectrum, I completely was not expecting Misaki to go crazy when her joystick fell apart and basically bash Yousuke's head into the arcade machine's screen. It was touching to see that the both of them noticed that their "special" move was connected to who mattered the most to them in their lives. Misaki having her family and Yousuke having his mother. The end surprised me when Misaki once again ended up freaking out and ultimately realized she was dead, begging for a second chance to go be with her children and seeing Decim pull the two of them into a hug shows that the assistant may be breaking some of the walls he may have put up with being an arbeiter. Seems that before she came, he was devoid of any sympathy or emotion towards the parties, but with each passing episode he looks to be getting better with it.

Now, let me ask you... Do you think it's fair about the ending Misaki and Yousuke got?
I found it to be pretty fair... Yousuke really seemed like he wanted to acknowledge that woman as his mother, but never really got the courage to do so. Since he got reincarnated, he gets a second chance at that. Misaki very well deserved what she got, she seemed like she was only using her family for personal gain and profit as well as not paying attention to them at all.

Before I close this out, so far these are the games we've seen so far:
    Darts
    Bowling
    Arcade games

    Predictions for next week?

Episode 3 was interesting, with few new twists. It was bit touching but that just it. I did like the how they wrapped everything in the end

Yeah I also believe that they were both reincarnated

Episode 4 was pretty crazy. At first it was pretty slow but as it went on, it started to pick up. Its pretty funny that she though that they were a hidden camera show. As the game started and went on, it really showed their true selves. That lady did have some serious issues to go as far as she did just to win the game but even after that, they ended in a tie. This episode made me feel sorry for the woman and I really though she would get reincarnated but after reading what Stereo said, it makes sense. On that, I think it was fair choice. The only question I have is why did the guy commit suicide?

As far the next game, I have no idea lol

    Ep 4

Each epside is getting really more indeoth now, each character having there own unique troubled past. And for me the main guy at the bar , there's something more than meats the eye with him, plus his companion, she seems much more human, as hes cold as ice which is interesting. We also in the episodes thus far have found out there seems to be higher archys of power, no longer do i feel that this is simply a "pass" on judgment but something more. I feel as if there really is more to come and im not sure how this will play out

    @Stereoanlange

Yea it was a touching episode actually , that woman, overall had hardships but she became neglective to her children, and turned into a manipulator. Of course she had a troubled life, for the way she turned out to be. However she did not learn any lessons from these games and then she just went berserk, which again shows her aggressive personality. Even at work she was aggressive, when she lived that was, slept around etc. So im very glad she went to hell

Also about Yousuke's , that was sad, this was the saddest yet, and as he got his memories back and him hearing his mum to say " someday I hope Yousuke will call me mum" , it was sad, he had troubled life, which went down into an endless spiral , until unforgettably he could not take it any more, committing suicide is , when your that low and now thinking straight is just ... tragic :( but im so glad he went to the correct elevator

Also I dont know, Im not sure any game will be played, im going to watch EP 5 tonight and see, and something dosnt sit right!

    @obdriver6
He committed suicide as , he became more and more depressed as his life went on, I mean it did show it on the episode, maybe he felt like a disappointment, and he just couldn't take it, when people get down, the brain will make you feel even more depressed, hence an endless cycle, and as he gazed out into his open window with the sun out, after finishing his game, it was like he was in a daze , and I guess he went for it.
But now he can live his life to the fullest he knew is wrong doings, he can be with his family, actually say something like " I love you mum" ahhhh touching episode!

@Supernatural-Knight I just watched the first episode of Death Parade... wow, to quote the redhead woman at the end... 'I thought it was terrible'.

the doctor was pretty stupid for someone who was meant to be a doctor. How could he not realise that the baby would be dead if they were also dead? I just couldn't help but laugh at how stupid both of those characters were. Felt more like a black comedy than a psychological thriller.

    Also

they're playing pub games in purgatory... Think about that for a second... PUB GAMES IN PURGATORY... It definitely felt like I was watching an anime version of South Park

How are there so few posts in this thread?! This was an amazing anime that could have had so much more discussion! Anyone know if a second season is any likely?

Easy, because no one was posting in here when they did watch it and others didn't watch it while airing. You know because you're one of the latter.
As far as I can tell I wouldn't count on it. That being said I really would like a 2nd season because this show was great, I gave it 10/10.

I give up on you. You like shows that lots of people hate and other ones that are completely insane but the ones that most people agree on are great you dislike. Seems about right.

What is wrong with pub games in purgatory? You have to be judged before being sent to heaven or hell and a pub is a good a place as any to draw out their darkest emotions. I wonder how pub games in purgatory makes less sense than the ending of Lain or the whole series of Kaiba?
But you'll see, better eps are to come after the first two [although I instantly liked this show].

Not always true. I do like a lot of popular anime as well. I just prefer anime that pushes the envelop a bit more than others. I'm just so sick of the same generic rubbish that a lot of them seem to produce. I don't like anime with predictable plots, mediocre characters, no character development, and stories where the characters don't feel like they have any emotions whatsoever.

Because they intentionally put it in as part of the story to expand on the main theme of the show. It just seems ridiculous. Could you imagine if that was what really happened after you died? It's an interesting way to put it, but they don't seem to go anywhere with it. At least not in the first three episodes so far. Plus, every character so far in the show seems like a complete moron. They have no idea what they're doing or what is going on most of the time. The story just seems to be about a bunch of idiots so far. (Yes, I do know that they have lost their memory, but it's so obvious which direction the story is going in, I can predict everything that is about to happen).

This was a good anime, the only reason I rarely posted here is beacuse I always kept falling behind, the same way I'm doing now with denpa kyoushi :(

Odd since in my opinion Death Parade has some good characters as well as some great character development as it goes on. Maybe you're judging character growth a bit prematurely having only seen a quarter of the series.

Honestly if this really did happen after you died I'd like it, pub games could be a bit of fun sort of like a last request. Obviously they can't remember everything because like you said their memory is erased but the idea is to bring forth their inner selves to see if they are worth saving. Someone that knows they are a killer and enjoyed it isn't going to be remorseful but watching them rediscover it slowly to see the impact could possibly give a different view.
Take the doctor from the first 2 eps, he seemed like a normal loving husband to begin with. It wasn't until he got some memories back that he shown any hints of being overly jealous and a control freak.

Hopefully your view changes to a more positive one later on since this does have some of your preferred themes, but for now I found your problem. You have to stop watching things dubbed, this subbed was great and that is the version I will remember it by. I haven't even searched for a dub trailer.

@Supernatural-Knight just finished episode 4 and oh man the feels... The characters in this episode felt a bit more relatable and more human than the previous episodes. Still, if the plot doesn't advance I will probably give it a low rating.

    Pssshhhh... Why didn't they though?...
Yeah, it did sorta feel like that. Wondering if I should read it to get the story.
I haven't decided on my score yet. Either 4.5 or 5. It was really good, but I don't know if it was 5 good...

Oh! And did anyone else notice this?!
How pretty much the entire OP is foreshadowing the entire anime?! Like, everything!!

You're going to have to be much more specific as I've seen way too much to even remember who appears when. Though the characters are only around for 1 ep each they do tend to leave a mark on you [when you know which pair someone is talking about]. Hmm episode 4, yeah I have no idea at all.
Good to know you got that vibe from it though.

So I just finished the entire series. That made no sense...

So the only thing that has changed is that Decum is judging from a human perspective? Whereas everything else carries on as normal? I thought the whole point was to try and change the system entirely? Did I miss something here? What was the point? There was no proper conclusion...
