I just noticed something. The video comment section is the same for every episode of a video. This is slightly problematic as it means you can't make any spoiler comments.

Now I'm not sure how doable either of these are but I have two ideas to fix this

    1. make a unique comment thing for each episode- I guess it you died the comment section to the video tab you could make this work although I guess this makes the problem of having more places for spam to hide and problems to crop up.
    2. Make spoiler tags for the comments-Again I have no idea if this is even a little possible but if making the comments unique for each video won't work making a way to hide spoiler comments (Maybe even being able to lable them to say what kind of spoilers they are) is a great alternative and may even work better. I know sites like Crunchyroll have spoiler tags for their comments but I haven't seen this anywhere else so I doubt it's a comment thing for comment systems.
But anyway having a way for people watching videos to make quick comments without having to go to the forums and find/make the appropriate thread and then leave a comment is a great way to get a small community made of casual users who could eventually move on to the forums. So I feel improving the comment section is important because as they are now they aren't spoiler friendly at all which is obviously not good.

To add to Meta's post, I can say for certainty that it IS possible to make a spoiler tab for the comments AND at the same time separate it for each ep so only spoilers for the ep u watched are in the spoiler tab. I know this is possible because I've seen this implemented on a rival site (A sub group with a few dubs) Now as to whether this is duable on XF (our site) that I don't know.

And yeah, I see the gif avis working again now too.

@Natsuru-san don't get in the habit of posting other sites names to watch anime on, it counts as advertising the site and that is against our TOS. I get what you mean by their comment system as I use it for subs too, but you don't have to say which site it is.

@Metazoxan I believe the comment sections was initially used to report errors or problems with the videos and not for posting comments. I'm not sure if we've changed back to allowing users to post their thoughts there as I thought that system was decided against when it use to be flooded with spam.

Well I assumed since we had a normal report button again that the comment section was opened to comments. Plus like I said a proper comment section opens the site up to becoming more open and drawing in a community. Because not everyone feels like going to the forum to post their thoughts but they don't want their thoughts to be lost in minutes in chatango. So a comment section where proper comments are allowed is good especially if our goal is to grow the community and increase site traffic.

not having a comment section will make us come across and lacking to some people who are used to most anime sites having them.

OBJECTION! *Says ace attorney style* I never once advertised any site and the only reason I mentioned their name is because how else am I supposed to convey which site I saw the thing on? If people don't know the name, how can they see for themselves what I'm talking about and get a better grasp of it? (Some people are visual people u know) PLUS, it's a sub site, not like we JD have any subs you know so, it's not really going to take away much traffic if at any, esp seeing how this thread is for suggestions to improve this site, I doubt many people that aren't members here would bother coming to this kind of thread. Still, seeing how u edited my post (Why does it not show a mod edited my post? That should ALWAYS show and a comment left in it to say why modding right?, sorry if I'm mistaken on this), if Spor or Kiri or anyone staff wise wishes to know which site I was talking about, all they need to do is pm me or get the name from you.

he just said be careful about getting into the habit of it. naming other anime sites on here even once is technically breaking the rules but it's an ignorable offense as long as it's not done often.

When possible it's best to simply describe what you mean as much as possible. That's not to say I never do the same thing. But in any case it is true you should avoid naming other sites as it's against the rules. Even if that other site isn't exactly cometition with us it's just simpler to outlaw that kind of thing in general than get into the complex debate about what sites to allow mentions of and which ones to not. again it's not a super enforced rule and everyone breaks it from time to time. But it's still a rule and we all need to at least try to follow it.

This is true so maybe some sort of captcha to prevent the posting of spam similar to DT's one, just allowing every anonymous source to post without this level of restriction would see us inundated quickly once traffic picks up.

@Natsuru-san while it is largely a sub site their amount of dubs has increased quite a bit, I'm on that site watching 10 eps of subs a day so I've seen a lot of the dubs added [I'm watching Slam Dunk movie 4 right now]. They are essentially catching up to us just slowly. Considering that site has over 116,000 likes on Facebook we don't need to mention the name, describing features should work good enough. Also I don't know why it doesn't say I edited your post, I didn't leave a reason but I didn't click hide the changes either, odd, I'll try editing a few other posts to see if anything happens then.

But it is a super enforced rule

    because I enforced it

The page does not change when a new episode is clicked. The episodes are nested in each tab so when clicked the tab calls the embed page and brings up the correct videos. We did this to help with traffic and page loading instead of loading a new page AND a new set of embeds every time you're only loading the embeds when you move on to the next episode. We've thought about using a more complex comment system but honestly they're all pretty exploitable. We use Disqus which is managed off site and limits how much it actually interacts with our site. Bots have an extremely hard time posting through Disqus and using Drupal mod based comment systems leaves us open to exploits and other attacks. We basically chose that over centering too hard on social aspects of the comment system. Someone who is discussing on an episode by episode basis will inevitably be refereed to the forum where we encourage engaging each other in discussion. The most the comment system is used for on anime is an overall expression of how much it was enjoyed or to complain about what episode is broken. Anyone is free to discuss what they would like in there, common courtesy is to avoid spoilers but currently there is no plan to change the comment system.

Well, XF is our forum we use Drupal as our sites CMS.

Overacting is not necessary. Super is correct that mentioning other anime sites is classified in our TOS as advertising. I understand you were only trying to convey your point but try to do it a little differently next time.

Captcha isn't good enough for user end applications. Bots often capture the captcha and post it on porn sites asking real users to fill in captcha to get to see porn which allows bots to bypass captchas to register or post comments on your site. When they can do it they spam on mass so any ideas of admin moderation is out the window. Normally you can use a firewall and spam filter in addition to the captcha but we opted for a more secure route. Our comment system is managed through Disqus which is heavily off site in the sense that it doesn't really interact with any other parts of Drupal.

Like I mentioned we weren't trying to heavily center on a unique comment system that allowed for a different chat on an episode to episode basis or many other social aspects like spoiler tags and etc. Our comment system is open to anyone to dicsuss what they would like but currently there is no plan to change the comment system.

Actually the site I use for most of my sub anime has a pretty active comment system and people use it for all kinds of things from a quick comment on their thoughts on an episode to a thought out post about something in particular. They of course have a forum for more in depth discussion but if you aren't already a member or don't feel like finding the right thread then it's a moot point. Plus most sites seem to deal with bots well enough somehow so it's certainly not impossible.

But if you want to keep Drupal what about putting drupal into the embedding tab so that each episode has it's own Drupal instead of it being for the entire series.

Point is I think if we develop the comment system a little more it will make the site more appealing especially to new comers. It will give them more reason to stay rather than go to one of the sites with a better comment system.

@Supernatural-Knight Ah, I see, I had no idea they'd added more dubs recently, I've only seen a handful here and there but mostly subs, subs and more subs. lol I also don't use FB or keep up with stuff on FB but yeah, I'll try to refrain from mentioning other streaming site's names in JD and sorry about that.

@Sporadic Just saying I wasn't over reacting. If u noticed I said objection ace attorney style, that's a video game series (incase u didn't know) where the main char says objection and people online use that in a friendly/playful manner, not typically from what I've seen is it ever used in a bad way or in the actual over reacting way. The rest was me just explaining my thoughts and such as that's something I just do.

Centering detailed discussion on the forum is how the forum can stay active and encourage community engagement. If you have a discussion in the comments section, it takes away from one of the core functions a forum provides. Leaving the comment section as-is, IMHO, is the best way to promote forum use and activity. I'm not sure how the "More Info" button is supposed to work, but I think it would be a good idea to add "discuss the anime on the forum with others" (or some other, less generic sentence) to promote the idea of joining the forum and discussing whatever they watched with others on the forum. But, that's just my 2¢.

Most people aren't going to stop by the forums unless they have a good bit to say especially if they aren't already members. A better comment section gives people a place to make smaller comments and if they grow to like the site they might check out the forums.

You don't need a better comment section for that. Disqus is more than enough of a comment system, plus anyone who is a member of Disqus through other sites (such as IGN, for the gamers out there) can just sign-in and comment. If they want to edit, they have that ability as well. Want to reply? Disqus has that too. I don't think you can get any better than Disqus, other than using forum software, considering their comment system lets you write a huge article in a single comment (and yes, I've seen comments reach almost as big as the original article they were commenting on before).

I'm not saying we don't use it. But I'm sying we should find a way to add spoiler tags or tie the comments to the tab somehow so that each episode has it's own comment section. Because as it stands now any comment you ake shows up on all episodes of that show that that just seems like spoilers waiting to happen.

so comment system/spoiler tag for it aside @Sporadic & @Kiri Is there a way to improve the poll system? In the anime café we're supposed to vote for 2 anime, no more, no less, yet there has been a few times (Inlcuding now) an uneven vote meaning someone either foted for only 1 or more than 2. Is there any way we can get the poll to only allow the exact number we're allowed to vote for and no more/no less?

    Whoops, somehow missed this post.
For ovas/specials/shorts, not that I can think of atm except anything in gen that we don't have uploaded yet along with all the Shakugan No Shana shorts and such if we don't have them. (I doubt we do, otherwise I woulda watched them back when I saw the anime) As for the music, most never get a dub ver. of the song, so when u said or in English, did u mean English subbed?

EDIT: Pretty sure we don't have the Mahoromatic specials either. (The I'm home special has 2 eps ad the 2nd season special might be sub only but has 1 ep) Most sites don't have those specials to watch, only recently did I fine a site with them on them. (This after having to wait sereral months after no results turned up)

Okay, so I went looking for a place to upload all of my tons of crap when I ran out of room on mega and I found something awesome.
There is a chinese based cloud service that is offering 10tb of cloud storage for free by setting up and account with them.
They seem reputable enough after some digging and I haven't seen anything weird going on when monitoring my pc and network the last 24 hours or so.
I figured if anyone I know you benefit from it, it would be this community. Anyways, here is the first thing I've contributed in a very, very long time.

    Make an account here: http://reg.imqq.com/

Grab BlueStacks here: http://www.bluestacks.com/ (For if you don't feel safe using your actual phone)

Download, Install and Sign in to this app via BlueStacks: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.qq.qcloud

Finally, go here and click that awesome blue button: http://www.weiyun.com/act/10t-en.html

If you want the english patch for their software, I can upload that too, I'm just not done with it yet. It's taking longer than I thought. lol

BlueStacks isn't very reliable if you use it for Android apps that aren't games, not to mention that if you want to use it without paying, you are obligated to install their sponsored apps any time you are prompted to pay for it. If you want Android emulation on your computer as a substitute for an Android phone or tablet, check out Andyroid (or Andy, for short). It has better Android application support, gives you a true Android OS feel and you can modify your virtual Android device to have up to 3 GB of Ram and bigger storage space by using a hard drive (or a solid state drive if you use one). Best of all, it's free and you don't have to install any sponsored Android apps to keep it that way. I'm not in a habit of posting links, since it's technically considered advertising. Use your favorite search engine for "Andyroid".
