After watching the latest episode of The Walking Dead, I'm curious if any of you guys had played through the sequel to the much acclaimed Walking Dead game, released by Telltale. The finale episode released not too long ago (August) and I'm still feeling the effects of the ending. While I don't think Clementine worked quite as well as a main character, compared to Lee, the arc of her story in season two is pretty darn good. I'll avoid going into spoilers with the opening post, but between the new characters introduced (Luke was a personal favourite) and the ways they reference the old ones, I'd highly recommend people check it out.

I was playing the S2 of the game but had to stop for a reason I can't remember. I'm a giant TWD fanboy (I even collection the figures for both the comic and TV series) and S1 of the game was probably one of my favorite games. Hopefully I'll get to finishing S2 soon but it probably won't be till next year.

You're in for a show, I can say that much. :)
Episode 3 in particular features one of the best villains in the series. They're a real piece of work.

    Oh, don't get me started.

I killed Kenny and left without Jane.
The whole season I stood by Kenny, believing there was still good in him. He was a loose cannon, but he did what he did to protect everyone. But when I thought he was going to kill Jane, I panicked and shot him. I was devastated! When I found out Jane had tricked us, I was done with her. Still upset over Kenny, I left to fend for myself. I really like that in that ending, it's ambiguous whether or not Clementine will survive. When I heard you can get a much happier conclusion with Kenny, I was really bummed out. But I like to stick by the original playthrough.

What ending did you choose, Sporadic?

I shot Jane and left with Kenny. You start thinking maybe she'll be the one with a little more sense in the group but then she hides AJ and intentionally pushes Kenny over the edge. Plus, she purposefully keeps you at arms length the entire time so you really don't know THAT much about her and that made me have little trust for her.. Kenny on the other hand we know what hes about from the get go. He was definitely going to a dark place but really who in the comics hasn't? There's plenty of people who have become what Kenny is in a sense, namely Rick for example. Going down a dark and destructive path. And if I've learned anything from the other mediums of TWD, shows, comics is that you can come back from your dark place if you really want to (that was kind of emphasized by hershel in the tv show). Kenny has been through a whole hell of a lot losing his wife and son and then Sarita. So I felt like having AJ around Kenny would help his bounce back from the troubled path he is going down. Also, its fucking Kenny afterall. I have all the love in the world for him, you've known him longer than anyone else in the group and for my story line in s1 at least he was bros for life with Lee. I just couldn't turn my back on him like that when he so clearly needs Clem more than she needs him right now.

And yeah, there's a bit of redemption there for Kenny at the end. You make it to Wellington and there's no room in the town so Kenny selflessly offers up the kids knowing he wouldn't be allowed into the town.. You can choose either option, and I choose to stay with Kenny. There's no way in hell I'm leaving him behind now.

Argh, see, I felt the same way you do about Kenny. He was the closest thing to a father figure that Clem had after Lee, and he was the guy I always stuck by despite some of his questionable decisions. When it came to the confrontation between Jane and Kenny, I didn't want to make a decision because I had spent all this time trying to keep the group together. I felt even worse after shooting him, when he apologized to Clem in his last breaths. I told him that he would be with his wife and son again.
Now I'm angry at Jane all over again. :p

So do you think we'll play as Clementine in the next season? Personally I hope we get a new main character. I like to think of this as the end of her story.

I definitely think we'll play as her again. At least I hope we keep seeing Clem. The brand and Clem as a character are really popular so I personally think changing the main character might not happen. We've gotten all this development with her so far and TWD tends to be the kind of medium that keeps their stories going for a long time. Also in the s2 finale video of Playing Dead the developers are asked how they plan on continuing the story in s3 and they elaborate a little bit on it.

A new main character would be cool but we're gonna get that eventually with Overkill's The Walking Dead Game. And this is partnering with Robert Kirkman and Skybound so it will be pulling story out of the comics. It says something like "DC Falls." http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/08/13/overkill-making-new-the-walking-dead-game

The follow up video from IGN after the initial one makes it seem pretty promising.

I suppose I just don't want anymore of young Clementine. She's certainly grown over the two seasons, but if I'm right back in a group of survivors, being the kid, I'll be a little disappointed. I'd be okay with them doing a time skip. Though I don't know if there's certain rules in the comic that prevent that sorta thing.

I didn't know there was another Walking Dead game, though. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. :) I quite enjoyed my time with Payday 2, so it will be interesting to see Overkill take on a more survival focused experience.

Yeah I must admit it does get a little annoying playing as Clem with all of the work you have to put in just to make a kill. But I think its a unique experience seeing Clem struggling to grow up in this world and finding the moral high ground on what is acceptable to do and what isn't. Clementine has no Elizabeth, no Ellie, no Snow White and no Clementine of her own. The game gives you no hints as to what the morally right answers are. It's interesting seeing how adults adapt in this apocalyptic world but its even more interesting to see how kids like Carl and Clementine are growing up in this world and the effects that its leaving on them. And it would be a little hard doing a timeskip. The comics storyline is years ahead of where the game and tv show are. And so far the game and show have been following the same time frame.

Very true. Maybe I just need a break from the series. I'm still hot off the second season, and I'm not sure if I'm mentally ready to join another group of survivors and slowly see them all picked off. :p
I can't imagine they'll do season 3 until after their other projects (Game of Thrones/Borderlands) so perhaps I'll be more in the mood to play as Clementine in a year or two.

    my ending
I ended up shooting Kenny lol, it all happened kinda fast, I was hoping for a flesh would but i shot him good! its stupid, maybe if everyone listened to clem for once ina while, half of the shit that ever happens would not happen. Anyway, I ended up going with Jane and the maybe and not going south, cos south didnt appeal, so we went back to base camp, where we killed carver. I do agree to the fact Kenny was a loose cannon, and I know that lee said stick by people when there in there darkest hours, but he was in that darkness for to damn long! I cant wait for the next season, i hope we still play as clem, perhaps a bit older but i prefer being clem as it adds that additional challenge

Yes, I can't wait for their Game of Thrones game to come out. Do you read TWD comics? I noticed you started reading Fables once you finished The Wolf Among Us.

I just keep thinking what if Rick was given up on when he was in his darkest hours. Would he have turned into someone like The Governor? Or Carver, who gave up on him instead of attempting to bring him back from his dark side? I think Aj is going to be a really big part in getting Kenny out of his dark place. Above all else I just think kenny needs a symbol of hope. That was something he lost before with his family, then he went into a dark place. It was something he seemed to reclaim when he was with Sarita and then he went back into his dark place when she died. I think Kenny needs a symbol of hope to carry him out of the darkness again and Aj is just that symbol.

I'm interested to see how they'll do a Game of Thrones game. If it will be original characters or not. I think I would prefer they used existing characters, potentially even ones that aren't on the show. It just seems that the Game of Thrones world is already so full of characters, that squeezing even more in might run the potential of retconing existing lore.
And I haven't, yet. I love the Walking Dead series both in games and television, so I definitely intend on reading the comics. I just recently reached a point in Fables where I'm comfortable leaving it for the time being, so it won't be long before I get around to reading them. Might watch out for some Halloween sales on the compendiums.

Hey @sayWut, how did you feel the second season of TWD compared to the first? That's generally the question I hear the most when talking about this game. Like Sporadic, I think it was good in it's own way. But I personally liked Lee more as a character.

    well
I think for example is a different case, rick did go kinda crazy after the events of the walking dead series, but he did pull himself together in the end. But you've made a valid point, but still i feel that kenny just went past the stage of that darkness, there was far to much rage all the time with him, hell yes rick got mad but he went more kind of crazy than mad, and he well pulled himself back together as ofc he has his son carl. I guess we could compare this to the baby and Kenny, and now you've made me feel bad for shooting Kenny haha, but as I said before it all happened so fast, I wish they implemented a flesh wound in that game instead of either choosing Jane, or Kenny or no one. Anyway back to kenny, he had a lot of rough patch but time over time he just kept loosing it, while if we compare rick on the TV series , has lost it in a different way, Kenny wouldn't listen to any reason and in the end he still wouldn't listen to reason so he got shot. And now im stuck with Jane, although she came back time after time. I personally liked Luke actually wish he stayed.

    @TheManWithoutAPlan

Thats a tricky question, I mean we all know the ending of the season 1 was a feel overload that's fact. Playing as lee was good , we see a lot of different perspectives and relationships being built. I find it hard to compare as in season 1 your a guy in season 2 your clem, which ads a lot of different game play elements, I mean shes smaller, she cant melee and destroy a zombies head as the average person, though she can shoot! I personally liked playing as elem after season 1, it for me added an extra layer of feels. The only negative as playing as clem as NO one wver listens to her , never has anyone listened to clementine never.... I liked playing both lee and clem in conclusion.

Also do we still play as clem in season 3?

I think part of what was making Kenny rage so hard was that he just lost Sarita and ended up being stuck with a group of people he just did not like. I had Clem agreeing with him all the time because his main plans were getting to Wellington where Christa was supposed to be headed. People didn't wanna have that shit and would rather argue with him about going south. Another thing was how sympathetic everyone became for Arvo. Fuck that kid, I have never wanted anyone to die so badly. I naturally sided with Kenny every time because I thought it was the best option, not just because its Kenny and we is bros for life, but because the rest of the group, aside from Luke, were a bunch of assholes. Kennys rage was something that stood out long before s2. Back in s1 when you have the option to kill Larry you can see Kenny's rage come to the surface. But even after s1 and him losing his family, despite all that rage hes still a down ass dude. He selflessly jumps down to either save Ben or Christa without thinking twice. Even though the man is full of rage, understandably even, he's still looking out for his friends before himself. And that aspect of him can be seen when he gives up trying to get into Wellington so Clem and AJ can get in instead.

Rick, in the comics, definitely went down this path harder than his tv show counter part. He fought all pissed off with Tyreese, murdered those prisoners in that zombie raid on the prison without even letting his group know what he was really doing. And then when he gets to Alexandria for the first time he murders that dude in the middle of the street in front of everyone hes like growling with rage and showing his teeth lol. That was the main theme for awhile in the comics, embracing your darker side to get shit doen for the people who matter to you. It was always a question of when to turn on and when to turn off the beast, something Rick perfected and something I think kenny could too. So to me Rick was in a darker place for a lot longer and nobody really said shit very often. The only difference is that Rick is in a group of people he likes so the rage is contained a little better. Just like how Kenny handled himself better around Lee, Omid and Christa. And now especially around Clem and AJ.

And yeah, all evidence suggests we will play as her in s3.

Here's another question for you guys:

Did you watch Kenny kill Carver?
I did, and it was pretty brutal! My Clementine wasn't the type of person to normally do something like that, but I was so ready for Carver to be dead that I had to see it with my own eyes. If I were playing my version of Lee, he would have walked away, but my Clem was a little more indulgent in her anger.

    #MyClementine :p

I watched Carver die. I think I would have made my Lee walk away too but my Clementine is a lot more different person in s2. You never know when she's going to be left alone again so she needs to be some what hard, callous, calculating and to the point. This is a new world where you just don't grow up the same as before. This was a type of change similar to what we see Carl going through. What wasn't acceptable before, like killing Carver for revenge, is completely in the norm now.

    Another question.

Did you run out on to the ice to save Luke or did you listen to him when he said to stay back?

Yeah, I felt the same way. Though she tried to follow Lee's influence, #My Clementine isn't Lee. She was quicker to get angry or upset, but also more accustomed to the dark realities of the world they're stuck in.

I ran out to save him. He was my other favourite character in that season, and I wasn't going to let him die when I thought I had a chance of saving him. His death was awful, too. :( He saved me from a walker under the water, then I watched as he was slowly dragged into the depths. I hear his other death is rough, too, where he's trapped under the ice and you watch him drown. Poor guy.
