As part of our Halloween Event, let's talk vampires, goblins, or monsters in general. If it's spooky or supernatural, discuss your favorite Halloween anime here!

Personally, I like Dance in the Vampire Bund, though it's not finished and doesn't appear to have a chance of a second season anytime soon. It takes what we thought we knew about the inhuman creatures of myth and gives us something different to think about. And none of that sparkly vampire weirdness.

How the vampires rule over the world of darkness, werewolves and other creatures of the night ruled by vampires. Vampires whose society has a vast amount of wealth accumulated by companies we never knew they controlled because we thought they were nothing but a creature of fiction. I think they have a good story for us to watch, if only they could provide another season to at least finish the series and answer the questions you'd probably ask in the final episode of season 1.

What's your favorite Halloween Anime and why?

I gotta go with Hellsing Ultimate. For me, it's the measuring stick of a horror/ vampire anime. Many may disagree, but that's how I feel.

Hmm my favourite halloween anime probably has to go to Ghost Hunt. Watching the show late of a night during a storm during the bloodstained labyrinth arc left a really big impression on me. Just having the right set up for watching it made the show so much better. It is a fun supernatural mystery anime with memorable characters and some scary touches, to a younger audience.

Meanwhile Shiki is a close second, the way it handled its story with a slow reveal was done very well. Watching people descend into madness and start choosing illogical options was a great watch. That one scene with the doctor late of a night in his operating room, holy crap I had to rewatch that right after finishing the episode.

Another is a fun one, but I didn't really find it to be in the true spirit of halloween. It was more like a horror movie you watch just to see people die, and that was exactly what I loved about it. Good times.

I do agree with @Teknoman X that Hellsing Ultimate has a lot of great horror elements as well. I loved seeing Alucard slaughter all those idiots that charged the hotel using his whole vlad the impaler inspiration behind the character and not to forget when the Valentine brothers stormed the residence. Although It loses an element of horror for me when it is monster vs monster. It is still satisfying to see the undead get destroyed but it isn't quite the same.

@Vashnik I've never seen Dance in the Vampire Bund. I was always turned away from it because it had a loli, I know she is centuries old but it didn't help. Since that time though that doesn't really bother me, I watch just about anything now. So the question is would you recommend it?

Now a fun one I am mentioning as a bonus is Ao Oni. Based on an old horror escape game, it got a movie adaptation the other year and it really wasn't the best. But the more I talked about it, the fonder I looked back on it. It really wasn't good, the cg was poor, the quality in general was low, lighting was horrible...... but somehow I can't hate it and actually enjoyed my experience.

    Do you like straight shota?

If yes, then by all means watch it.

If no, then I wouldn't recommend it tbh.

    t. Someone who fucking watched the series

Anyway my favourite horror anime is Natsuyasumi.

If you don't mind a loli vampire that's centuries old, tease's a certain friend, has an adult form that she doesn't use often, enjoy a different kind of vampire story and don't mind an ending that is so wide open that a second season is almost required just to answer some of the questions you will no doubt have, then yes. Yes I would. It does have an interesting story and doesn't contain nearly the amount of "plot" that shows like High School DxD and similar, more recent anime have started using to entice a certain audience, but I think the anime is more of a niche and not as popular as other shows. If nothing else, it is worth checking out to see if it's something you'd stick around to finish. Give it about 3 episodes to get a feel for it.

Ghost Hunt is a good choice if you want to be scared, yet entertained at the same time :D

honestly, the first horror anime that came to mind is ghost hunt. i could say with confidence that it doesnt do bad shit and its the real deal when doing supernatural/horror anime.cant say anything bad as of the moment of thinking about it. the characters, atmosphere, music, and the stories are great.

now thats out of the way, next thing that came in mind is corpse party. another anime with a promising name that doesnt disappoint. with a name like corpse party, im sure it raises curiosity as to what to expect. only bad thing about it is you have to play the game to properly grasp whats going on. its not bad but could be better.

Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust is a great anime to watch on Halloween. Great soundtrack and it is directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri (Ninja Scrolls) with character designs by Yoshitaka Amano(Final Fantasy series/Angel's Egg).

Of course one of my favorite monster boy shows Orenchi No Furo Jijo(or Merman in My Tub)has the cutest Halloween episode!
