As per the recommendations of many, I finally got to watch Naruto (I've been dodging it for a long while), of course, starting with the 2002 series -- I'm just over 120 episodes in, and I've watched them all as consecutively as I could; however, I'm fucking sick of Naruto right now. I am conjuring excuses to avoid watching it, including JAF. However, I haven't been able to bring myself to watch something else, as I have committed myself to Naruto (from what I hear, I'm about to head into 'Fillersville', which is doubly discouraging). That being said, I really want to watch something I'd like to watch, so I'm going to be 'dropping' Naruto for the foreseeable future (I'll feel guilty and come back to it in a month or so).

My request to the JAF community is one with no stipulations; give me an anime, any anime to get the taste of brooding Sasuke out of my mouth (yes, I am aware of the double entendre -- feel free to take a jab).

    Thank you, ahead of time.

Hmm @Ddos_Dragon I watched all Naruto with my brother, and I do mean ALL Naruto. We didn't skip anything and watched the movies and current Boruto episodes as well, it made it easier for me considering I had someone to talk to at all times about it. With long series I think having someone to talk to is important.
With that being said I am always watching a bunch of other anime at any one time, I will very, very rarely watch a single anime without watching episodes from something else. How you've done 120 eps without anything else is beyond me.

But that brings me to my issue with your request. Anyone can recommend you their favourite series but I believe that to be wrong. I prefer to recommend anime that the person in question feels like watching at that time rather than what I like. Since Naruto is a shounen action series I imagine you wouldn't want to watch something else along the same lines. Would you like something slice of life or romance perhaps? Maybe you just hate how kiddish Naruto is and want to watch a bunch of characters die, so would something more mature be better to suggest?
    What are you roughly after?

I've a pretty wide scope of interest, and pretty much everything falls under it. That being said, a contrast would probably be nice, and it's good of you to bring that to my attention; sure, hit me a gritty series.

    Thanks, man.

Oh I see that what you watch varies greatly, hmm then you'd probably watch just about anything someone recommends. I now see why you didn't ask for any specifics when starting the thread.
But without knowing what you have and haven't seen makes things harder. I believe you've seen a fair amount of anime so more common suggestions like Mirai Nikki [which is still a bit shounen] surely is out. So saying something like Gantz might be better but that is fairly common too. Everyone has seen Black Lagoon so I doubt that helps. Monster is fun but long and definitely well known so you'd probably not think of that either [74 eps is not a nice quick show to watch in between].

What about more mature series in tone rather than in blood and gore. Something like Kaiji is usually less well known that has psychological warfare. If you're open to sports anime you could try One Outs, big money being bet on baseball with psychological aspects I found to be a fun watch. Akagi was another psychological battle anime that wasn't bad but unless you're a fan of mahjong it gets kind of boring.

Trying to recommend an anime without any general idea is hard. You don't have a MAL or AP to make this easier do you? I take recommending shows seriously.

@Ddos_Dragon Boku no Pico. Or alternatively, Natsuyasumi.

I do have a MAL, however, I only started it after being balls deep into years of anime, so it's far from being accurate. I only added some of the things I watched mid - 2016 onwards, in addition to some of the others I recall having watched before then; and even then, I forget to add some of the seasonal animes (don't even get me started on manga, lol -- I've just been using it to keep track of things I want to buy a physical copy of), and then there's the issue of me using a quick add extension I got from the internet, that put everything I wanted to add to completed, to PTW. If it helps, though: https://myanimelist.net/animelist/Ddos_Dragon?status=2

As for the other ones you mentioned by name, I've yet to see Akagi, though I've read some of the manga, however I fell out due to the amount of chapters behind I was, much like I'm currently doing with Naruto. That being said, the anime is only 26 episodes, and it'll be nice to revisit the franchise, good call.

I have seen all of the others, however I have been itching to see Tokuchi fuck with people again, as well as revisit Kaiji (I've been reading a bit of Kakegurui, and that's made me want to see Kaiji gamble, again).

I hope the list helps; and remember to look at PTW. Thanks again.

You and I will get along splendidly.

No, I don't believe I have seen that one; although, I did hear about it.

    I'll watch it, thanks.

@Ddos_Dragon you've seriously seen all the other series I mentioned? Hmm, I see that you're no ordinary anime fan.
I'll have to lift my game and recommend some more out there series next time. Although brief warning that Akagi ends in the middle of a match so don't get too pissed about that.

I also think you should update your list completely, I'd be very interested in seeing it finished. Considering how much crap I've got on mine, I'd be curious to see what sort of crap you've watched over the years.

@Sir-Maddy when did I ever recommend you those shota OVAs? In fact I can't believe you just said it does it for you, who are you?
Are we sure this is the same Maddy that we had before? This one seems to hate the Yuri anime coming out in the future and is talking highly about yaoi instead of futa.

    I'm scared.

When we first talked you talked about about how much Boku no Pico does it for you.

I learned from you, the master.

Because they're both absolute dogshit Yuri manga. It should've been Kase-san.

Didn't watch it because I heard Drifters was just riding on Hellsing tailcoats, and Hellsing was only okay to begin with. I trust you're advice, and will give it a watch, however.

    • I haven't seen B-gata H-kei, but that's an incredibly.. intriguing plot; I'll have to watch it. Before I start, I have to know: does she make her goal?
    • I have seen Baccano, I think it's overhyped; it's good, but it's not 8.5/10 good.
    • I've seen the infamous pander-fest Cross Ange. It's not as bad as people say, but it's certainly not good.
    • I've seen K; it's certainly pretty, but the writing leaves some to be desired.
    • I 'played' the Little Busters light novel, and didn't know it had an anime. The anime might be worthwhile, but I remember being bored out of my mind during the game.
    • Nura's anime was so disappointing, I thought the manga was amazing, though. I eventually fell out near the middle, but have been wanting to finish it for the sake of the manga.
    • I haven't been caught up with as much Ghibli as I should be. I'll do Marnie soon enough.
    • Oremonogotari is one of Madhouse's more popular romances, of course I've seen it.
    • ReLIFE is one of those animes that actually taught me some things, it helped with my edumacation.
    • I've seen about half of Saiki K., the 5 minutes blips are so discouraging, though.
    • Laputa is the movie that got me watching Ghibli's older films, as a wee lad.
    • I got to watching Tsuritama because my sister saw me watching Ano Natsu de Matteru and drew the similarities for me.
    • I saw some of UN-GO but fell out because of exams, I guess I'll pick it up again.

This is the only time I've gotten use out of MAL (aside from synopsis') , so I never figured it a big resource.

That being said, I'll work on it bit by bit, starting right now.

I have to say that I completely agree with most if not all of what you've said.

More to the point I guess, regarding little busters.
Yes, the anime is long winded, so much so, that I even stopped watching it and then rewatched it fully a few weeks later when I had a bunch of time to kill and I came to discover that it actually had a very pleasant and satisfying ending (given that you also watch refrain (the sequel) immediately after). That made it worth recommending.

Besides, if you managed to complete K on! (which I haven't been able to) you shouldn't have a problem staying interested with little busters.

That's pretty much it regarding that. If you want me to have another look for more recommendations then just say so I'd be happy to help where I can. X)

One more thing while we're on the topic of recommendations.
I found these few animes that I haven't seen on you're list and they were all ranked 8 or above. I was just wondering what you think of them and if they're worth watching?

    Plastic memories
    White album
Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken
    Mekakucity Actors
    Akuma no Riddle
    Strike the blood
    Witch Craft Works
    Maoyuu Maou Yuusha
    Ouran Koukou Host Club
    Trigun

Also arranging them in best to worst would be very helpful.

    Thanks.

I don't know what I was thinking when I some of theses a high rating.

From this I'm sure you can gather that I don't have the mind set of a reviewer. I rate things somewhat high if I watched them in one sitting and didn't want to hang myself.

Hell, I don't even remember watching some of these titles, so they surely don't deserve an 8, heh.
