So I'm planning on playing Fallout 4. It's one of those games that was on my radar for a long time but I generally wait until everything comes out before playing them.
I wonder if it's worth my time.

I have played Fallout 1,2,3, and New Vegas.
I'm definitely in the "New School" of the Fallout games. (Blasphemy!)
The older two games were incredibly difficult for me to get into, the gameplay was a snooze fest. Story and dialogue is much better but...eh.

I always come back to Fallout 3 since I love playing this hybrid shooter. Wish the combat was less clunky but I consider myself a fair shot. Definitely have to mod weapon damages so people die faster. No one likes bullet sponges. NO ONE.

New Vegas was smaller in exploring I think and the deserts while interesting quickly became repetitive. Granted the metro tunnels were repetitive too but I actually enjoyed fighting feral ghouls in them. Still it fixed most of the problems FO3 had so overall it's pretty cool.

So now unto Fallout 4. I hear it strays even further from the original so called "Fallout formula".
I don't know about you but this is music to my ears. I didn't particularly care about the originals and thought the later games needed some revamping of gunplay.

Is this a game that would please me if I thought Fallout 3 was really fun? I'm into the shooter elements and don't roleplay that heavily.

Oh one last thing for people who have played this game before...

How many Radroaches are in this? I already checked and someone already posted the required "delete radroaches" mod.

I know I know! I had a bad moment when I was a child and I'm too afraid to confront it. Just tell me if it's worst or rare compared to Fallout 3. Every freaking tunnel had those buggers which rendered the underground unplayable to me for a year.

I really hated Fallout 4, but I loved New Vegas - so I'm sure you'll love it. :p I hated the saccharine redesign they did to the wasteland. It was so cheesy and stupid.

New Vegas, on the other hand, I got to play a complete scumbag, which was a lot of fun. The evil choices in the game... oh, so so good, way better than Renegade Shepard any day. And those multiple endings. Granted, they were slideshows, but the element of multiple endings affected by your choices was something I absolutely loved because all my choices really mattered. TAKE THAT, Bioware.

I don't know about the Radroaches since I never bothered completing the game. I dropped it halfway through. Regardless of that though, enjoy yourself.

Ide say go for fallout 4, its better action. Especially the combat system, its much more fluent. Plus you can have anime mods! Though in all honesty I still prefer Fallout 1 , 2 and tactics. The story line is ok for fallout 4 but its nothing special. Just think of it as a updated version of fallout 3 with simply more things to do aka, Building, Crafting , Objective side quests ( repetitive)

    They're on the walls.
    The radroaches...are on the walls.

    OH HELL NO
Okay nuking and deleting them via mods in 3...2...1...
Ah cute molerats. Now I can game in peace

Game seems pretty fun, the combat is infinitely better. Never was into story in these games anyway. Like how the feral ghouls remind me of zombies more and more now.

Annoyed however that every gun in this game seems to have been modeled after left handed shooters (despite the fact that most are obviously for right handers).
Who shoots a rifle right handed and does the bolt action on the LEFT part of the rifle? It just bothers the hell out of my senses here.
Oh well, at least the gun play is better.

Well I played more Fallout 4 and quickly made a run through the main quest. Overall the game is not as good as the previous games. At least I didn't feel like it awed me in any specific way. Things I really like-

    • Big time improvement in gunplay. Much more fluid and it's fun running and gunning. Blowing off pieces of armor and dismembering limbs is much more exciting. Melee feels kind of worse though but then I don't pay much attention to those kinds of runs
    • Sounds, namely voice acting. Very good and I didn't hear repeats. Also I had no problem at all with the male main character.
    • Good main quest (minus the ending, more on that). I liked trying to find my son, gave me a more frantic feeling then searching for the father in FO3
    • Can mod weapons
    • Brought back the radio songs from FO3!
    • Fighting in the city areas was very good. So many streets and intersections to cross and enemies on the rooftops. I just wish they were more capable of long range fighting too...
    • Fighting in the buildings. The taller structures were cool too.
    • Suicide bomber Super Mutants. I first I hated them but then I found I could sprint faster then them so... Yeah it's my own damn fault if I die to them so they add a nice tactical element to fighting. Reminds me of the Serious Sam games (although those run faster then you but are one shot kills to make up for it)
    • Excellent plot twist regarding the institute. Pretty much made me change my side by that alone.
    The neutral
    • Actually used companions this time around. Dogmeat wasn't useless for a change and Nick was interesting. Trying the nurse from the vault now, I think I have too many stimpacks again
    • The settlement building. I used it a little bit but never got in the mood for building things
    • Graphics. Somewhat better then the other games I suppose.
    • Power armor. I kind of prefer the more simplistic kind from before. Then again you don't get the armor getting blown off part...
    • No equipment condition. Thought I'll like it but kind of made the loot system way to similar to every other item
And now the bad. This may seem like a lot but it's also nitpicking
    • Let's get this one out of the way first. Travis the DJ from Diamond City radio SUCKS. I rather listen to Johnny Guitar on broken repeat then this guy. He's horrible! Oh and in case your wondering "do his quest he gets better" He sucks even then. From loser to "fake deep voice pervert". I just cringed the whole time. I couldn't even kill him because his replacement was an annoying kid voice who kept telling me to buy his water. F*** his water
    • Really annoys me on how every bolt action weapon in this game is designed as if it's for a left handed shooter. This is rare for even lefties (although you could buy a custom bolt for that).
    • Why are all revolvers single action? Everytime you fired a revolver you have to cock the hammer back (single action). Where's the double action? Why do I have to suffer the insufferable animation of cocking the hammer back instead of being modern and just pull the frigging trigger again (when you pull the tigger the hammer cocks back for you hence double action)? A revolver play style is just too slow and annoying.
    • Okay enough weapon stuff. The sidequests were boring. Most basically came down to "go here, get this, clear that place out". Some exceptions exists but they didn't make up for the others.
    • Not a fan of legendary monsters. Really hate it when one randomly turns into one in the middle of a fight.
    • Damage sponges...damage sponges everywhere... Okay to be fair every game had this problem. Easy enough to fix with some mods. Speaking of which...
    • No interesting mods. Only put the bare minimum in my first playthough, upped damage a bit to rectify the above. Put in a very nice sound overhaul (adds a nifty reverb effect to gunshots). Overall though, nothing really to see here.
    • Terrible UI. Absolutely horrible. Why isn't there a UI that copies from the previous games? The top rated one is just...meh.
    • Terrible ending. I'll take the slideshow of the previous games over this...short movie? Listen I get it, War never changes. Is that the only thing the game is going to tell me? I blame the poor factions and their sidequests because there really wasn't anything to talk about.
I don't mean to disparage those who mod games or really like this game. Overall the series is fun. So with all that said

Sequelitis is a problem sometimes. I personally started playing Fallout with the originals. In fact, I have all of them on my Steam.

In terms of playability, I've learned to ignore some things in games. Maybe that makes me horrible at judging a game, but in a RPG I've always played them with the intent on understanding and liking/disliking the storyline. I have to admit, Fallout 4 rang my Sequelitis Bell a lot when I was playing through, but with the mods that I had installed through Nexus, I was able to overlook many of the issues.

UIs have always been a problem to me with Fallout. Never once has Fallout made a decent UI, And as you said, the best UI mods out there are trash too. But, small trash is better than a dumpster. I played the game and got all my achievements and that's where I stopped. I don't play very many games more than the times I need to unless it's Grand Strategy.

Oh yes! The game was fun in a way, I loved the game style the more fluid movement and pace of combat. But the story and the side quests were as plain as bread. Seriously there was no life in it. Ok sure some of the characters were "interesting" but what the game lacked most is " development". Did anyone actually care for most of the charaters, I just hate games with out solid character development. I did like the game but well after all the patches and breaks ive been put off.

    More of my anime mod!

After Fallout's update that disables achievements for using Mods, I've pretty much went from "playing obsessively" (about 4+ hours a day) to "meh, I feel like playing some Fallout. I guess I'll play Fallout 4" (about 1 - 4 hours every month). My original save is broken because of Bethesda's incompetence and the save can hardly load it anymore (and mine only used 3 mods, 2 of which don't disable achievements because I guess it doesn't modify the core game or the game balance). I might be able to get it to load after about 20 game crashes (which act as if someone used the console command "QQQ", which is is basically "exit the game to desktop without saving"). The one and ONLY useful mod that I used was a scrapping mod, just so I could clean up the damn settlement debris (because nothing is more irritating than a damn bush sticking up through a fucking concrete floor, or a bunch of rubble elevating a chair to magically balance in the air). Out of all the mods I used, that's the only one that disables the fucking achievements. I use "lockpick pro" which basically allows you to rotate the pin to the correct spot by showing you where that perfect spot is, and that one doesn't disable achievements? This is proof of Bethesda's incompetence. I can understand disabling achievements if using the command console, but to disable it for using mods, it's fucking ridiculous.

Exactly, they destroyed mods, and rolled out a mass patch, I too was playing it for hours a day, It was so much fun so much to do so much customization, and ofc there were lovely mods. Unfortunately for me though due to updates and my internet Steam wants me to DL another 25 gigs .... Im not sure if this is an error but Ive tried making steam " discover " the existing game updated version that I got from my friend but nope. So i will have to wait a couple weeks before I even get a chance :/
