The New Release Club's General discussion

You aren't kidding. I started out watching both of them but had to stop one because I kept forgetting which characters were from which series. Like "wait was he the one who was super strong but had a limiter or the weak one with the temporary power up technique?" or "wait was she the princess who lived in the orphanage or that one who was lonely super genius?"

So finally I had to just pick one because I kept getting them mixed up. I'll probably catch back up with the other one later when I'm bored since it seemed decent. But watching them at the same time was too confusing.

 

I'd be willing to give it a shot. Like you said I was just swamped during the Fall season so it was not a good time for me and with no one else talking there wasn't a whole lot for me to go off of anyway.

But one bad season doesn't mean this club is dead yet.

 

I'm still willing to give it a shot as well, however ever body did seem swamped with something this Fall season and even during Winter holiday. I did finish One Punch Man and I can't disagree with you @Supernatural-Knight. One Punch Man contained ever aspect that should have made for a lot of discussion. Honestly shocked that we didn't get more of a response from it. And as Meta said with so few of us talking about it there wasn't a lot to go off of without the risk of spoiling something.

As for Lupin 2015 I don't even know where to begin... nobody else but us discussed it. And to add fuel to that fire we only discussed the 1st episode but it was a good discussion. In truth I still need to finish that up.

Anyway if we decide to do this what is up for nomination? Most of what i'm thinking of doesn't start until the middle of January. Not to mention that number of airing episodes hasn't been announced for most of this Winter's line-up. Still id'e like to hear what everyone else has to say on the matter.

 

Well, in the opinion of kay and I, One Punch Man just looked lame. The only thing we watched this season was the masterpiece that is Noragami.

As for this coming season, I'd say why not? There looks like some seinen that I'd watch irregardlessless.

 

One Punch Man isn't something that gives you what to talk about. It's a parody of shounen series. What did you expect? It's fun to watch but nothing to discuss. The most common comments I have seen about this anime is either manga readers talking about how did the anime adapt certain scenes, skipped something, what they look for or just people saying "that was hilarious", "Best HERO ever", "So badass", "insert pic or gif from the episode.

Lupin never seen.

 

I'm up for another round, truth be told ever since Summer my new sub/new dub anime viewings have dropped due to nothing that interesting, esp Fall/Winter... I have yet to take a gander outside of a few I've seen promoted on ANN so, let me just go ahead and nominate Dagashi Kashi.

@Supernatural-Knight Lupin 3rd P4 is what I tried to warn ya, odds are people won't be watching it till they've seen the rest or will hold out on the off chance of a dub. I still haven't seen it and I don't care for OPM so I couldn't partake but, as Ovyda said, that series is one that won't gen much discussion, even I could tell this just by looking at it and reading what it was about or put another way, it's like trying to discuss power ranger eps which most have the same thing in them so u won't get many comments let alone discussions. lol That and, people have been busy, however I can understand your feelings toward the lack of participation, I even made those runner up threads and not many people partook in them. (Tbf, that 1 with giftia in it really sucked...looks great at least lol) That and seeing what happed with Natsu's club also left a bad taste in my mouth cus, I loved it and I love here so ultimately it's up to u but I would say don't right it off so quickly, give it another chance or 2 and if then same result, well, here is better I guess. lol This is just how I see it anyway.

@Vladnyx Sorry to ask this but every time I see your sig, I have to hold my hand up to it. (I lurk more than I post these days...) I'm no longer able to stand flashing lights, esp the white flickering ones like that gif in your sig, I don't suppose maybe you could spoiler it? Any other gif that doesn't flash and I'd never ask that. If not, well, I'll have to turn off sigs or something which would suck.

 

There is more than enough to discuss about One Punch Man. Yes it's a parody of a shounen series and what I mean by that is the main character doesn't have to struggle at all to be the best. He already is. As such he longs for a worth adversary who can test his limits. By the end of the first episode your left wondering just how strong is he? What threats will plague the City he lives in? Does he even have emotions? How he even got as strong as he is which left a lot of viewers wanting a answer. Thank heavens we got it unless their lying about what was said. Regardless to go & say that it isn't something that gives you what to talk about to me doesn't feel right.

I can't argue the fact of what else you said. Iv'e seen my fair share of manga readers talking about how the anime was adapted. But again what manga reader who has read a manga before a anime adaption hasn't talked about that. And well the reason people say it's hilarious is it's just plane true. There were moments that left me pausing a episode and holding my sides. Saying he is the best HERO that's just folks hype and really not much else. It's opinion based. But as far as breaking the episodes down, as short as the series was there are elements that can be discussed.

I'm not gonna bother arguing, so quick reply. I was speaking from experience and about facts. If you honestly can't grasp it, very well.

Just for your information, I am a moderator on very popular anime website that had only 271 replies in OPM thread while Owari no Seraph had 921 replies even though OPM was definitely more liked by the people.

 

I'm sorry, I responded rashly and I shouldn't have. I can grasp that OPM isn't by any means a great choice to have a strong discussion compared to other anime choices. I'll openly admit to it it's not the best candidate for discussion. It's a short series, it's comical, the story was very straight to the point, and the side character's didn't really develop aside from Genos. So yes your right in saying there aren't strong elements to build discussions off of. It's Shounen and Shounen fans would have had a lot more to discuss as SK said.

As for you being a moderator on another website that's perfectly alright and i'm happy for you. I can also get why Owari would have more replies. It's got multiple main character's that have key development, it's ever looming threats from all angles, life or death situations, and just so much is still shrouded in mystery, and it's still airing. Been watching it since it aired and it's been a fantastic watch. It's not hard for me to say it's a better contender for holding discussions. At this point @Ovyda iv'e said all I have to say. You have my apology.

 

You don't have what to apology for I was just mindblown by your comment, it felt like it came very aggressive with no real thought given, but it might just be me. It's not the only anime that might be more fun to watch than the rest, but discussion wise it's rather dull.

The whole mod thing wasn't to get your praise lol. I just figured you don't know anything about me since I retired from staff before you joined this place. I watch lots of anime and I visit quite a few forums to talk about it, so normally I know quite a bit what's popular and what's not.

I recommend Musaigen no Phantom World and Ajin for discussion threads. Should be rather good enough for various people. Although I personally am very interested in Prince of Stride: Alternative.

 

I'd say Hai to Gensou no Grimgar looks like it will be good for discussion.

@Vladnyx Hey, thanks for changing the flashing light gif out of your sig, you didn't have too but you did anyway, that says a lot about someone and to me, it says you care. Again, my heartfelt thank you.

 

Your welcome @Natsuru-san. In truth it was flashy but didn't get any complaints so I just left it. I didn't mind changing it and honestly I had some extra gifs of Saito saved for if I got bored looking at it. So it was a really easy fix.

 

Honestly, it was irritating me a bit, but I didn't say anything because people are allowed to have whatever they want ^^

 

I'll just stay away from the overly flashy gifs. Didn't even take into consideration how it may affect others. What may not have been irritating to me others may find irritating or bothersome. And I over looked that. I'm just happy that Natsuru spoke up about it.

 

So anyway what we going to do about winter? Stuff is going to start airing this week. We could pick 5 or so that look worth covering and hold quick vote by the end of the week.

If I had to make a suggestion of 5 it would be

Divine Gate
Hai to Gensou no Grimgar
Dimension W
Boku dake ga Inai Machi

These all seem interesting and aren't focused too much on sports, harems, ect that might limit the fan base too much or might be too slow in terms of plot to have enough to talk about.

 

I hate to say it but your right. Some of these shows are going to start airing soon. It shouldn't be to hard to pick 5-6 that look worth covering and hold a vote.
