Yardie Trailer Shows off Idris Elba’s Directorial Gangster Thriller

Idris Elba has frequently proved himself to be one of Britain’s very best actors, whether he’s strutting around London in his giant Luther coat, planning drug takeovers on the streets of Baltimore in The Wire, or guarding Asgard in the MCU. He’s turned his talents to the other side of the camera with his directorial debut Yardie, and you can watch the latest trailer for the film right here.

Set partly in Kingston, and partly in Hackney, the film is based on Victor Headley’s novel and revolves around D – a Jamaican kid scarred by seeing the death of his brother, who enters into a life of crime as a young man and moves across to London under the eye of crime boss and music producer King Fox. There he sets off on a revenge quest when he finds himself crossing paths again with his brother’s killer.

Elba is solely behind the clapperboard for this one, with Aml Ameen in the lead role, alongside the likes of Stephen Graham, Sheldon Shepherd and Shantol Jackson. The film is screening in London as part of the Sundance Film Festival this weekend, and is getting a wider release on 24 August.
