Viz: We Do Not Have Any Info on Hypothetical New Tokyo Ghoul Anime?

Viz Media told ANN on Monday that Hamric misspoke or was misquoted about a new Tokyo Ghoul season. The anime receiving another season is My Hero Academia. The original article is below.

The ICv2 website posted an interview with Kevin Hamric, Viz Media senior director – sales and marketing, on Monday. In the interview, ICv2 asked Hamric, "Anything change in the last few months in terms of the streaming environment, new shows coming on, or anything that's helping?"

Hamric responded:
Nothing that's been recently released, but One-Punch Man is coming back on with season two. There's going to be another season of Tokyo Ghoul coming shortly. Later in the year, those would be the bigger releases on the anime side.

A new season of the Tokyo Ghoul anime series has not yet been officially announced in Japan.

Viz Media announced in October that it has licensed Sui Ishida's Tokyo Ghoul:re sequel manga, and plans to release the series starting this fall.

In October 2015, Funimation CEO and President Gen Fukunaga stated that a third Tokyo Ghoul anime season was "set for 2016" in a press release about a Tokyo Ghoul mobile game. When asked about the statement, Funimation confirmed with ANN that it was "anticipating a 2016 release," but the company didn't specify whether it meant a release for the mobile game or the anime's third season. The company didn't respond to ANN's requests for further clarification.

Sui Ishida's Tokyo Ghoul manga has inspired two television anime series, two original anime episodes, a prequel manga, and Tokyo Ghoul:re. The manga has also inspired two smartphone games in Japan, a PlayStation Vita game, a stage play adaptation, and a live-action film adaptation that is set to premiere in Japan this summer. Funimation released both anime seasons on home video, and Viz Media is releasing the original Tokyo Ghoul manga.
