The 12th compiled book volume of Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi's Ultraman manga revealed on Thursday that the series' anime adaptation will premiere on Netflix in spring 2019. The anime will have a worldwide simultaneous release.

As previously announced, Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eden of the East, Napping Princess) and Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed, Harlock: Space Pirate, Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars) are directing. Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eden of the East, Napping Princess) and Sola Digital Arts (Appleseed Alpha, Starship Troopers: Invasion, Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars) are producing the anime in 3D CG.

Viz Media publishes the Ultraman manga in North America, and it describes the story:

Decades ago, a being known as the Giant of Light joined Shin Hayata of the Scientific Special Search Party to save Earth from an invasion of terrifying monsters known as Kaiju. Now, many years later, those dark days are fading into memory, and the world is at peace. But in the shadows a new threat is growing, a danger that can only be faced by a new kind of hero - a new kind of Ultraman...

Shinjiro is an ordinary teenager, but his father is the legendary Shin Hayata. When he learns that his father passed on the "Ultraman Factor" to him, and that he possesses incredible powers, nothing will ever be the same again.

The Linebarrels of Iron team launched their series based on Tsuburaya Production's most famous live-action special-effects hero in Monthly Hero's magazine in 2011. Viz Media released the manga's 10th compiled book volume on May 15.

The January 2018 issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Hero's magazine revealed the anime in December. The magazine had teased a "major announcement" for the manga on the same day. Additionally, the issue published a special one-shot manga for Shimizu and Shimoguchi's Linebarrels of Iron manga, which shipped the eighth volume of its "Complete Edition" on Thursday.
