U.K. publisher Anime Limited began streaming an exclusive trailer for Naoko Yamada and Kyoto Animation's A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi) anime film last week. The video reveals the film's U.K. screenings that will begin in March.

The film's official website revealed last week that the movie will screen in 30 countries around the world.

The film will have preview screenings in the U.K. on March 15, and a wider opening on March 17. The U.K.'s Scotland Loves Anime film festival already screened the film in October, and the film received another screening at London's ICA cinema on February 5. Viz Media Europe acquired the rights to distribute the film in the European Union, Russia, Turkey, and French-speaking African countries.

The film is based on Yoshitoki Ōima's manga of the same name.

Crunchyroll describes the original manga's story:
I wish we had never met. I wish we could meet once again.
A boy who can hear, Shoya Ishida, and a transfer student who can't, Shoko Nishimiya. One fateful day, the two meet, and Shoya leads the class in bullying Shoko. But before long, the class shifts its target from Shoko to Shoya. Years later, Shoya feels strongly that he must see Shoko once again.

The film earned 2.3 billion yen in Japan, and was the 19th highest-grossing film released in Japan in 2016. The film surpassed the box office earnings of Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion, which earned a total of 2.08 billion yen during its theatrical run in Japan when it opened in October 2013. A Silent Voice also surpassed the earnings of the K-ON! anime film, similarly animated by Kyoto Animation and directed by Naoko Yamada, which earned 1.9 billion yen at the box office in 2011.

The film opened in Japan on September 17 on 120 screens and Ranked #2 at box offices in Japan in its opening weekend.

The film earned 283,000,000 yen (about US$2.8 million) and sold 200,000 tickets in its first two days. By comparison, Kyoto Animation's 2011 K-ON! film earned 316,310,000 yen in its first two days on 137 screens.

    The film's cast includes:
    Miyu Irino as Shōya Ishida
    Saori Hayami as Shōko Nishimiya
    Aoi Yūki as Yuzuru Nishiya
    Kensho Ono as Tomohiro Nagatsu
    Yuki Kaneko as Naoka Ueno
    Yui Ishikawa as Miyoko Sahara
    Megumi Han as Miki Kawai
    Toshiyuki Toyonaga as Toshi Mashibasa
Mayu Matsuoka as Shōya Ishida as an elementary school student

Naoko Yamada (Tamako Market, Tamako Love Story, K-ON!'s two anime seasons and anime film) directed the film at Kyoto Animation. Reiko Yoshida (Non Non Biyori, K-ON!, Yowamushi Pedal) wrote the script, and Futoshi Nishiya (Free!, Hyōka, Nichijō) designed the characters for animation. kensuke ushio (Space Dandy, Ping Pong) composed the music at Pony Canyon. AIKO performed the film's theme song "Ai wo Shita no wa" (Loving Is). Shochiku distributed the film.

i told you that your suppressed side gradually taking you over. nah just kidding. you said you liked some drama and good animation. this one offered both. now about the romance thingy, its not romance you hated, its the cheesy shoujo flavor of most romance anime in the past that you hated. i think....

Both of these could be true. I like that you define it as the shoujo flavour that I dislike rather than romance.

I saw yesterday that this film is going to be coming to local cinemas for me as well next month. So I have a few options. Go see it by myself, find a girlfriend that likes anime before then, or find someone that likes Kyoani as much as Noobs and see it with them.
No way will I take my brother or friend to a movie like this. I'm thinking if I go see it I'll just see it by myself. Either that or wait for a good quality version to be put online [whenever the hell that might be].
