Time to drop a series?

Hey guys. You know, I've been wondering this for a bit: how long do you watch a series before you say "screw it. This isn't interesting. Dropped"?

For me, ever since Madoka Magica, I've adopted what I call the 25% rule. If I can make it a quarter of the way through a series and not find anything of real interest, I generally drop it. I only make three exceptions to this:

1. If someone begs me to continue watching because they insist that it gets better a bit more onward
2. If it's a shounen series where 25% is 50 episodes at best
3. I'm bored beyond all recognition and have nothing else better to do so I decide to watch anyway (unless it's unbearable to watch)

So how long do you trudge on with a series before it loses your interest?

 

Well,I always try to finish a series. But sometimes if I can't get through the first 5 episodes I will drop it. Or if it has like 100 episodes or more and it has a crap ton of filler.

 

I recently dropped The Office after watching 7 seasons, it was unbearable all the way through and someone told me I had past the "best part" of the series.
It was the first series I dropped in over a year.

i won't drop a series because I know they tend to become better as they progress.

E.g. Humanity Has Declined got good past half of the series.
Natsuyuki RendezVous got good 3/4 in.

 

Airwolf after season 2. It got kinda stupid after that.

 

As far as an anime, I dropped Aquarion. It just wasn't something I wanted in my wheelhouse.I got to ep 5 and said enough.
