The troops are taking fire in the new 13 Hours trailer

For his latest sidestep away from giant robots smashing things and explosions everywhere, Michael Bay has turned his attention to a real life military operation that features former US Special Forces officers facing down heavy opposition. And explosions everywhere. The new trailer for 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi is now online.

Bay has taken a military man’s eye view on the storming of the US embassy in Libya. On the 11th anniversary of 9/11, a hundred or so Islamist militia attacked the Benghazi diplomatic compound and, a few hours later, the CIA facility nearby. A six-man special ops team fought back in an attempt to rescue the survivors. The resulting political fallout has since become a regular talking point for right wing politicians in the US.

The movie is adapted from Mitchell Zuckoff's written account of the attack by Chuck Hogan (The Town). It sees James Badge Dale, John Krasinski, Max Martini, Toby Stephens, Pablo Schreiber and David Denman tool up as the US troops, with Dominic Fumusa, Demetrius Grosse and Freddie Stroma round out the cast.

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi will be in UK cinemas on January 29.
