The Lion King Taps Pirates Screenwriter to Script Disney's Live-Action Remake

The Rush Hour 2 and 3 writer will take on the classic tale for Disney.


By Jordan Sirani Pirate of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales writer Jeff Nathanson will pen the screenplay for Disney's live-action Lion King movie.


Officially announced last month, the film is being "fast-tracked to production," according to Deadline. The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau will helm the reimagining of the Disney classic.

In addition to next year's Pirates film, Nathanson's credits include Rush Hour 2 and 3, as well as Catch Me If You Can. He also co-wrote Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

With Favreau directing both Lion King and a Jungle Book sequel, it's unclear when production on the film will begin.

Before either film hits, Disney will release its Emma Wastson-led Beauty and the Beast. For more, check out this stunning concept art for Disney's next live-action adaptation, which is expected to hit theaters March 17, 2017.

 

At this point, I've pretty much stopped caring about Disney's cash-in live action remakes. But man, that quote really takes the cake. Rush f-ing Hour 2 and 3.
