The Lion King: First Teaser For Jon Favreau's New Version
Ever since it was announced, there has been a mixture of consternation and anticipation surrounding Jungle Book director Jon Favreau's updated version of The Lion King. Could his CG critter-driven version truly live up to the legacy of the original? From the first footage on display here, he's certainly brought an impressive visual palette.

There are several touchstones from the original to be found here – mostly notably narration from James Earl Jones' Mufasa (because only the original Mufasa will suffice) and the call for the animals to meet the new young 'un Simba.

There is a lot at stake here, but this initial look at the film certainly promises a lot of confidence.

The voice cast here also includes Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Beyonce, Billy Eichner and John Oliver. The Lion King will be out on 19 July next year.

Eh. I'm kind of disappointed that they only brought back Mufasa's original voice actor, James Earl Jones, instead of most of the original cast. Whoopi Goldberg was the original voice for Shenzi. Rafiki's original voice actor died last year, so hopefully the new one can live up to Rafiki's original, Robert Guillaume. Matthew Broderick (Ferris Bueller's Day Off) was adult Simba's voice actor. Nathan Lane was the original Timon and Earnie Sabella was the original Pumbaa.

This is literately beat for beat of the original film. Literately who would watch this?
