Sword Art Online: Phantom Bullet manga artist Kōtarō Yamada posted on Twitter on June 9 that he will draw the Sword Art Online Project Alicization manga, starting in the 51st volume of Kadokawa's Dengeki Bunko Magazine, which comes out on August 9. The manga will adapt the Alicization arc of Reki Kawahara's original Sword Art Online light novel series.

Yamada's two-volume Phantom Bullet manga adapted the Phantom Bullet arc of Kawahara's light novels. Kadokawa published two complied volumes for the manga in Japan in 2014 and 2015, respectively, and Yen Press published the two volumes in English earlier this year.

Yen Press has also licensed Kawahara's original light novel series, the Sword Art Online: Progressive novel series as well as the manga series, and the Sword Art Online: Aincrad, Sword Art Online: Fairy Dance, Sword Art Online: Girls Ops, and Sword Art Online: Mother's Rosary manga. Aniplex of America releases the anime adaptations.
