Sui gyoza is a Japanesegyoza dumpling that is boiled, then served with a simple dipping sauce of ponzu (citrus soy sauce), shichimi (7-spice chili pepper), and la-yu (chili oil).

In contrast, gyoza, also known as potstickers, are typically pan fried in a thin layer of oil and then steam cooked.

Preparing sui gyoza for a meal can be as easy as purchasing a bag of pre-made, frozen vegetable or meat gyoza, and boiling them for a few minutes. Or, if you have the time, try making gyoza from scratch, and then boiling them. This homemade recipe for sui gyoza is well-worth the time.

Sui gyoza may be served as a meal for lunch or dinner, or it may also be served as an appetizer or finger food for parties or potlucks.
