Scariest Anime You've Ever Seen

I want to know the scariest animes out there. I'm looking for something to scare the pants off me.

 

I would also like to know cause the only ones I can remember being somewhat scary are Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent but its been years since I seen either and I kind of forgot what they were about lol

 

^ This and Boogiepop Phantom, Serial Experiments Lain, Higurashi and Shiki. I doubt any of them will scare the pants off of you, (Higurashi and Shiki might). I have to admit nothing scares me when it comes to film and TV. (I ain't afraid of no ghosts)!

There are some people on this forum who scare me though!!

 

I've seen higurashi and shiki. While they both have that creepiness to them, I wasn't scared. I'm not one to get scared either. I love horror but can't find the one that actually freaked me out. I watched the first couple episodes of boogiepop but never finished. Is it worth watching?

 

Yes it definitely is!! I have made a discussion thread for it in Psychological/Horror as well!! I really liked it! It gives off the same vibes as Serial Experiments Lain in my opinion. In the sense that it has a similar atmosphere with a lot of real life background noise. Plus, the sheer randomness at times!! Yet, it still maintains a plot. Albeit a very loose one! But, totally worth watching!! If you enjoy the psychological thriller genre!!

I could also recommend watching Kaiba if you want more creepy anime to watch!!

 

I've never seen serial experiments lain either. I'm glad to get new recommendations.

Have you seen Ghost Hunt? I made the mistake of watching one episode in the dark, home alone as well.

 

Never saw it. No spoilers please just general premise

 

Here's the small basic plot from ANN: Telling ghost stories is a favorite past time of Mai Taniyama and her friends—that is, until she meets 17-year-old Kazuya Shibuya, the man sent by Shibuya Psychic Research Center to investigate paranormal activity at a supposedly haunted school. When Mai gets caught in a dangerous situation, she is rescued by Kazuya's assistant. Saving her lands the assistant incapacitated, and Kazuya demands that Mai become his assistant, instead.

Think of the television show Ghost Hunters, where they go to suspected haunted places and investigate if it truly is haunted or not.
It keeps the "creepiness" to a minimum, but at times, you still find yourself walking around the house to turn on all the lights. It's purpose is not to scare you, but to keep you glued to your screen, which it does beautifully.

 

Isn't Ghost Hunt the one with the AMAZING DUB?

 

I would second Ghost Hunt and I'm pretty sure it has amazing dubs. Watched it for the first time in the dark and some of the stories were great scares.
I am intrigued by these other scary shows and will be on my to watch list. I am curious if they maintain scare through psychological or if they have literal jump scare points as well?

 

I'll make ghost hunt my next watch. Don't know why but I've been on a horror kick lately. Here's to hoping for nightmares.

 

I watched the first three episodes of ghost hunt. I'm liking it so far. Good recommendation.

 

I don't think I ever felt scared of an anime. Must be the wrong medium for me. You know what really gets me scared? That sinking sick feeling that a favorite character is showing signs of getting killed off.

Not the same thing your talking about but it gives me a sense of dread nonetheless.

id recommend ghost hunt as well. one of the members in the forums did watch in the middle of the night with the branches knocking the windows added with the time to time creaks of the second floor (or the ground floor ceiling.. bah whatever). and guess what, that was a great experience according to him.

yes that series did scare me specially DAT madafacking arc but not really scared much because i watched it together with my siblings.

 

I'm really enjoying ghost hunt so far. It definitely has that creep factor to it.

Glad you're enjoying it! I randomly picked an anime to watch, ended up with Ghost Hunt and wasn't disappointed.
