So apparently it is possible to fight Professor Oak in Pokemon Yellow without using a Game Shark. I have not tried this myself, but it is fascinating. I was wondering if anyone on the forum has been able to replicate this?

Seems kinda weird. He just appears without context and didn't even say anything before fighting you. I can see why they cut out such content in later versions.

The same person has also been able to perform a Mew glitch successfully. I have no idea how people work this stuff out

@VeritasOdiumParit the mew glitch is actually pretty easy, my brother had watched a video a few times with steps and manage to do it successfully quite a number of times afterwards. That isn't the only place that works to bring about a mew, he has tried it in a few locations and have gotten a range of different things to appear.
Unlike Missingo which is a glitches piece of data, the mew and Oak battle must have code in the game. While not being a completely true method to get them, glitching the game to initiate it is the only method to obtain mew. I'm wondering if there really was an Oak battle in the first game and no one ever found it or if Nintendo changed their minds and cut most of the data from the game.

I finished playing through Pokemon Yellow now and battled every trainer more or less. So I can't really do these glitches now =/

I've managed the Mew glitch, before. I'll have to boot up my Gameboy Color and give the Oak thing a try.

That's the warm up fight. Here's the real final battle with him

It's towards the end of the video but the whole thing is interesting. All these glitches are intereting. Always knew Professor Oak was the mastermind behind this series.

Ah the mew glitch I knew about but not the Oak one. I was one of the few out of my friends to get a mew transfered to my game at a Game Freak / Pokemon convention at my local mall to promote some of the training card releases. The gen 1 games were so broken it was hilarious.

Yeah I think anybody really noticed these their first time playing when they were younger. Each play through I started noticing more and more.

    ...
I didn't even notice any of those.... the only one I knew was the Missing No. glitch and the resulting side effects of a screwed up Hall of Fame.

@Sporadic I was quite aware of a few of those things. As you said if you played the game enough you eventually figured it out.
