Synopsis:
In a modern world where beast people exist and live with other humans, they have a regular household where a student lives with a lamia named Miia. The student, Kurusu Kimihito, came to live with Miia because of the culture exchange that has been going on with humans and sub-species alike. This is their story.

So the manga is only 14 chapters in, but I have to say it's a fantastic read. The ecchi is pretty thick sometimes, but overall I would say it focuses on the comedic effect. The story, in my own words, is more or less about a normal human who becomes a "master, husband, darling, glomp-victim, etc.." for the surreal species of our human imagination. I would recommend this manga to anyone who likes monster girls or comedic harems. (and ecchi fanatics)


Chapter 14 Thoughts:

I just finished chapter 14 today, so I will include my thoughts on the chapter:
The whole chapter I wanted to punch that director in the face. He even TOUCHED the centaur! AND HE LIVED!!! What's up with that?!?! I'm glad that the chapter ended the way it did. I felt sorry for the girls because they were pretty much violated by that perverted director...I'm also looking forward to the spider girl! awww yeaaaaahhhhh! another one to add to the collection xD

A lot of series start out that way. IF the one shot does well then they make it a proper series.

Actually Monster Musume didn't exactly have a 1 shot but it did one some one page shorts. For a while the author released single pages featuring the MC and a different manga girl. each one was independant so he didn't know all the monster girls. In each one he was in a serious relationship with each girl. Each one also featured actual sex so they were basically hentai. So there wasn't really a story just his drawing a guy having sex with his monster girlfriend.

This manga is basically taking all those single pages and merging them into an actual story. That is why the fan service is so explicit in this manga (Often showing bare breasts and stuff). Since it was basically based on Hentai shorts.

BTW if the author includes all of the monster girls from the shorts we still have 3 more including the spider girl we just saw. The other two are a minotaur (Who was basically a cow girl) and a headless knight.

Thanks I forgot to actually find a link. It's actually impressive how he managed to take those shorts and turn it into an actual manga. You'd think it would have just been made into a small book of shorts at best.

But seriously I can't really think of many manga that focus on monster girls besides the two this guy has made. Demon girls like in R+V don't count since most of the time they are in complete human form and basically act like humans with magic power. So it seems like if he uses what he has well he can make 12 beasts and Monster Musume into pretty good series especially for their genera. With a genera as over used as Harem it can be tough to make something that feels truly different after a while.

or he could totally waste it and just do the same thing every other harem series does but with monster girls. At least 12 beasts has the potential for some action on top of the monster girl harem. I enjoy the harem genera since a lot of them can offer an interesting cast of characters (It's honestly not just the fan service). So I like it when I can find a harem series that does something unique and interesting.

Pretty much but that comment was mostly directed at the perves who made up the fan base that allowed that one shot to turn into a proper series.
