Masami Yuuki's Kyūkyoku Chōjin R Manga Gets New Volume After 31 Years

This year's combined 21st and 22nd issues of Shogakukan's Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine revealed on Monday that Mobile Police Patlabormanga creator Masami Yuuki will publish a new volume of manga for his Kyūkyoku Chōjin R manga on August 10. Shogakukan published the manga's ninth volume in 1987.

To commemorate the new volume, Yuuki will publish a new one-shot for the series. Shogakukan will also publish two "complete edition" boxsets of the manga. The first boxset shipping on July 12 will include volumes 1-5, a case, and two rubber straps. The second boxset shipping on August 10 will include volumes 6-9, a 100-page fanbook, and two rubber straps.

Yuuki previously drew a one-shot for the manga in 2012 in Weekly Big Comic Spirits, and then published a two-part one-shot in Weekly Big Comic Spirits and Monthly! Spirits in 2015. He then published another one-shot in July 2017. Most recently, he published a new two-part one-shot for the manga in Weekly Big Comic Spirits on December 11 and December 25.

The original gag strip manga ran in Shogakukan's Shōnen Sunday magazine from 1985 to 1987, and followed Ichiro, a fifteen year-old android boy who begins going to a Japanese school. The manga was adapted into a 90-minute original video anime (OVA) in 1991.

Yuuki recently ended his Disu x Komi (Discommunication) manga on October 27, and launched the Shinkurō, Hashiru! (Shinkurō, Run!) manga in Monthly! Spirits on January 27.

Yuuki's Tetsuwan Birdy Evolution (Birdy the Mighty Evolution) series ran from 2008 to 2012 in Weekly Big Comic Spirits. The series is a sequel to his Tetsuwan Birdy (Birdy the Mighty) manga remake that ran in Shogakukan's Weekly Young Sunday and Big Comic Spirits magazines. The manga versions of Birdy the Mighty have not been released in North America, but Central Park Media and Funimation released the various anime adaptations, and Viz Media released some of Yuuki's Mobile Police Patlabor manga.

Yuuki is also the concept creator for Tetsuro Kasahara's Atom The Beginning manga.
