Fathom Events and GKIDS announced on Thursday that Masaaki Yuasa's The Night is Short, Walk On Girlanime film will screen in United States theaters on Tuesday, August 21 and Wednesday, August 22. Tickets are available on GKIDS' website.

GKIDS will also host a limited theatrical release independent of Fathom Events starting on August 22. All screenings will be in Japanese with English subtitles.

The film opened in Japan last April. The film adapts Tomihiko Morimi's (The Eccentric Family, The Tatami Galaxy) novel of the same name. The story takes place in Kyoto, and follows an upperclassman ("Sempai") who falls in love with his underclassman ("Girl with Black Hair") and tries to get her attention.

The film won the Grand Prize for Features award at the Ottawa International Film Festival last September and the Animation of the Year award at the 41st annual Japan Academy Prizes in March.

GKIDS announced its license for the film in January along with Yuasa's other films Lu over the wall and Mind Game.
