March theme voting

We have 6 themes to chose from for next month.

Maniac March: psycho's, maniacs, crazy anime characters.
Melee March: swordsman/swordwoman, anyone that uses a melee weapon to fight.
My Arch Rival: pairs of characters that are either rivals or enemies.
GARch: strong gar characters.
March Hare: bunny girl characters.
Mind Game March: characters who use their minds to come out on top.

It feels a little too closed that melee march only allows swords.

 

I guess you're right. Daggers/knifes/kunai should be allowed aswell. If it wins i'll make it clear in the nomination thread that any kind of melee weapon is allowed.

I'm gonna push it one step further: Can fists be included as weapons? Fists are, by definition:
Balled up hands at the end of arms, and are useful for bludgeoning.

No i'm not gonna allow fists. They can't cutt like swords and daggers can, atleast if we talk about a realistic point of view.

 

I hate to even ask, but would you consider Yasuri from Katanagatari as a exception? He uses his body to break swords literally. Through the usage of the Kyotou-ryuu style he has mastered from his father he breaks countless swords & weapons using his hands & legs in place of swords.​

 

Please can fists be a thing, just for the sole fact it let's me nom ARMSTRONG!!!!!! (Major Armstrong he lost every march melee but he is a staple of the game)

 

Doesn't he have spiked knuckles?
Technically, that is a weapon, so he should be fine.

A melee weapon is any manner of weapon used in hand-to-hand combat. The term Melee originates in the 1640s from the French word mêlée, which refers to hand-to-hand combat, a close quarters battle, a brawl, a confused fight, etc.[1][2][3]

Melee weapons can be broadly divided into three categories:

- Pointed weapons, which cover spears and almost all polearms. Such weapons are thrust in battle to gain a ranged advantage, as well as maintain a high rate of attack. Certain variants may also hook at enemies to disrupt and disarm them, or pull them from atop horses.

- Edged weapons, which cover swords, axes and knives. These central and prominent types of weapons are used to hack, slash and (depending on weapon and situation) thrust, stab and draw, generally quick or conveniant actions that are highly effective against soft tissues.

Many weapons fit into multiple categories, or fit inbetween them; many polearms such as halberds, lucerne hammers and guisarmes add edged and blunt methods of attack to a spear base, and various hooked weapons such as billhooks, fauchard, falxes and bec de corbin evade easy classification. Weapons not intended for combat such as whips don't fall into any of the three categories.

So any weapon with a blade kind of attack point can be used. Hands are part of the human body, how sharp or strong they may be, i don't think we should allow that. If we did, people could nominate Goku and Vegeta for example who are clearly not melee users. Only one from DBZ i can think of would be Trunks. I hope you get my point.

What Negi said, i think we could allow him for using spiked knuckles. It's not listed on wikipedia but it's a bladed weapon.

We're not quite there yet tho. It might even become Maniac March. Still in a 5-5 tie.
