Love Live! Sunshine!!'s Aqours group announced at the "Aqours First LoveLive! ~Step! ZERO to ONE~" concert in Yokohama on Sunday that the Love Live! Sunshine!! anime is getting a second season this fall. The concert was the first major concert for the nine-girl Aqours group, and it took place on Saturday and Sunday. The group also announced that the "Love Live! Sunshine!! Aquors 2nd Love Live! Happy Party Train Tour" will be held at Nagoya's Nippon Gaishi Hall on August 5 and 6, at Kobe's World Memorial Hall on August 19 and 20, and at Saitama's Seibu Prince Dome on September 29 and 30.

In addition to the second anime season and second concert tour, the "Aquors Next Step! Project" includes a theme song CD, the second wave of unit CDs (for CYaRon!, Azalea, and Guilty Kiss), and a Duo/Trio Collection CD. The random drawing forms for the second tour's earliest ticket sales are being included in the first television anime season's fifth, sixth, and seventh Blu-ray Disc volumes.

The concerts had theatrical live-screenings in eight countries, including: South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Azoland Pictures will screen the concert in at least five U.S. theaters starting on March 4.

The first Love Live! Sunshine!! anime premiered last July. Funimation, Crunchyroll, and Daisuki streamed the series outside of Japan.

The Love Live! Sunshine!! project was first announced in February 2015. The project's three key phrases are "Reader Participation," "Inspired by μ's," and "Seaside Town Setting." The group's name Aqours was chosen by fans by popular vote.

In 2010, the anime studio Sunrise, Lantis, and ASCII Media Works' Dengeki G Magazine launched Love Live! as a self-described "ultimate user-participation project" that lets its fans vote on the future of the fictional idols. The project inspired the first television anime season in 2013, and a second season followed in 2014. The Love Live! The School Idol Movie anime film then premiered in June 2015.

Crunchyroll streamed both seasons of the anime, and NIS America released both seasons and the film on home video.
