London calling: the first Conjuring 2 trailer arrives online

Like The Exorcist taking place down the street from Rentaghost, the newly-betrailered The Conjuring 2 sees paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren pack their bags for the UK (good luck finding that occupation box on the immigration form) and head to the more mundane streets of north London. Watch it in full below.

If you caught Sky Living’s Timothy Spall-starring The Enfield Haunting last year, you’ll have a head start on the subject matter. Essentially, a nasty spirit (or spirits) inhabit a house in Enfield and make life very unpleasant indeed for the single mum (Frances O’Connor) who lives there and her four little’uns. Expect jump scares and icy atmospherics. It’s the late ‘70s, so probably expect nasty spectral tricks involving lava lamps and brown corduroy too.

Enter the Warrens (the returning Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) called in from America to do some light ghostbusting. Things will no doubt get very frightening for all concerned with returning director James Wan keen to double-down on the scares of the first movie. He made Fast And Furious 7 in which two cars, neither of which was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, flew from one skyscraper to another, so the man knows a thing or two about upping the ante.

The first Conjuring was a colossal hit – second only to The Exorcist in grosses for an original horror – and you’ll find out if this one has similar box-office pull when The Conjuring 2 sweeps eerily into UK cinemas on June 17.
