The official website for the live-action film of Honobu Yonezawa's mystery novel Hyou-ka began streaming a teaser video for the film on Thursday. The video reveals and previews the film's theme song "Iolite" by Itowokashi, and also the film's November 3 opening. The site also revealed a new poster visual.

Kento Yamazaki (live-action Your Lie in April, Orange) stars in the film as Hōtarō Oreki, and Alice Hirose (live-action Silver Spoon, Maria Watches Over Us) plays Eru Chitanda. Fujiko Kojima and Amane Okayama both play classic literature club members.

Mari Asato (Ju-On: Black Ghost, Bilocation, Real Onigokko 3-5) is directing the film.

The story of Hyou-ka follows a boy named Hōtarō who is not assertive about getting involved, but was ordered by his older sister to join the classic literature club. In the club, he gets close to the truth about an incident, involving a female member's uncle, which happened 33 years ago. The "energy-saving" boy is joined by an inquisitive girl in this adolescent mystery.

Yonezawa published the original novel in 2001, and it inspired Kyoto Animation's 22-episode television anime adaptation in 2012, as well as a manga adaptation in Kadokawa's Monthly Shōnen Ace magazine. Yonezawa also wrote the Shōshimin mystery novel series that has had several manga adaptations, including Anko Manjūya's Shunki Gentei Ichigo Tart Jiken (The Case of the Springtime Limited-Edition Strawberry Tart).

Funimation announced in April that it had licensed the Hyou-ka television anime series, and will release the first part of the series on home video with an English dub on July 4.
