Film is no longer up for visual effects award
[IMG]The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced seven films that are under consideration for the Oscar for makeup and hair styling on Tuesday, and the live-action Ghost in the Shell film is on the list. The Academy's Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch will choose three nominees after viewing 10-minute clips of each film on January 6.

The other films up for the award include Bright, Darkest Hour, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, "I, Tonya," Victoria & Abdul, and Wonder.

Ghost in the Shell also initially made the shortlist for the Visual Effects Oscar, but the Academy later narrowed the list to 10 films, not including Ghost in the Shell.

The film opened in the United States on March 31, and earned US$18,676,033 in its debut weekend in the United States. The film has an estimated total gross of US$40,563,557 in the United States, and an estimated global total of US$169,801,921.

The film won the Hollywood Professional Association Award for Outstanding Color Grading for feature films in November. The film was also nominated in the Outstanding Visual Effects category for feature films but did not win.

The film debuted with the second highest sales on NPD Videoscan's national home video (DVD and Blu-ray Disc) sales charts in the United States when it shipped in the last week of July.
