Casshern Sins is the sort of anime which you rarely tend to see. It uses astounding artwork, animation and beautiful, if repetitive, music to set the perfect mood. If you dislike anime which never really knows where it’s going, then you would probably miss out on this anime’s charm. A sticking point to some about Casshern Sins is that, as it is an apocalyptic anime, it starts and ends sad. In spite of this downtrodden nature however, it adds to the anime’s charm.

Casshern Sins is twenty-four episode reboot of the classic anime series Neo Human Casshern, animated by Madhouse and directed by Shigeyasu Yamauchi. The story was written by a Yasuko Kobayashi and the anime was licensed by Funimation for English dubbing and distribution. It first aired from October 2008 until March 2009.
The plot for Casshern Sins is somewhat complicated; after robots have subjugated humanity, a mysterious girl named Luna is summoned by the people, in order to bring the salvation of mankind. Fearing her as a potential threat, The Braiking Boss sent three of his most powerful cyborg warriors to dispose of Luna: Casshern, Dio and Leda. Casshern, the strongest warrior, manages to track down and kill Luna, however, this triggers an event which sets into motion the end of the world. Hundreds of years later, the world's atmosphere is filled with poison and the population of robots and humans alike is dwindling as something called the ruin takes over, destroying everything in its path.

The plot itself was fairly well designed with characters which you couldn’t help but sympathize with. The backstory is never completely exposed which sadly leaves the watcher wanting more when all is said and done. The ending is somewhat rushed in nature but does manage to the necessary closure and no matter the outcome it makes the watcher sympathetic to every character. No set antagonist exists in the anime as most of the time all of the characters are merely looking out for themselves, this factor making it such an overwhelmingly intriguing anime to watch.
The art and animation is truly breathtaking in this anime throughout all of the scenes, both dreary and bright pallets equally well executed with spectacular colours and realistic art styles. Casshern Sins has its own unique style which is well received, making it an anime that, even if you don’t understand what’s going on, you can simply enjoy watching. One point of contention to be found within the anime is the frankly ridiculous outfits which the Casshern, Dio and Leda wear, however. They look akin to spandex but seem to be some form of skin which can heal over no matter what happens, a minor but eye-catching oddity.

The voice acting is fairly good however only the subbed version was analyzed, the English dub relatively more illusive. Regardless, all of the character's voices are well performed though often they make some rather odd or out of place noises when pained or the like, the unnatural sounds and reactions sometimes detracting from otherwise good scenes.

In conclusion, Casshern Sins is a beautiful anime which I would gladly rewatch as it has a beautiful set of characters, artwork and other favourable attributes. Casshern Sins is the kind of anime which just makes you feel, be it anger, happiness or most commonly, sadness. It uses its brilliant premise to keep the watcher tightly gripped and thus manages to shine despite any of it's flaws.
