    The Foxes’ Wedding Party

Once upon a time, arrangements were made for a member of a family in the village of U-zui to take a wife from the town of Fuku-yama. But one day a messenger appeared, and requested of the family,
“Please hold the wedding earlier, by about a week.”
So the family in U-zui decided,
“In that case, if it cannot be helped, we will hold the wedding one week earlier.”
When the day of the wedding finally arrived, the family in U-zui hired a chef, prepared a large feast, and waited. Then, a messenger from the family in Fuku-yama arrived, and said that the bride would be bringing an enormous dowry with her, including many tansu chests of drawers and nagamochi trunks.
The people of the family in U-zui said,
“If she brings so many large pieces of furniture, we will have nowhere to put them. We would prefer her to come with her belongings wrapped in furoshiki cloth instead.”
The messenger from the family in Fuku-yama agreed with them, saying,
“Very well, in that case, we will come with her belongings wrapped in furoshiki cloth.”
On the evening of the day when the wife-to-be was due to arrive, everyone was waiting expectedly. At last, they came in a long procession; and there were as many as 45 people, all carrying bundles wrapped in furoshiki on their backs.

The people of the family in U-zui came out to welcome them, saying,
    “Thank you for coming, welcome!”
    The young wife-to-be said,
“My stomach aches. May I lie down?”
And she got them to spread out some futon bedding in the boxroom, and laid herself down to rest.

The others sat in the drawing room in a circle, drinking hard, and singing and dancing late into the night.

In the morning, the people of the U-zui family quietly opened the fusuma sliding doors of the drawing room and peeked inside. To their bewilderment, they didn't find a single human being in the room. They were all foxes, drunk, stretched out, and asleep snoring.
The people of the U-zui family were amazed, and discussed among themselves,
“What shall we do? Should we beat them, should we tie them up, or should we go as far as killing them all?”
They were talking about it when one of them proposed,
“Wait, maybe we should go and ask for advice from the head monk of Oo-bai-in Temple. Let’s do exactly as the good monk says.”
So they all went to Oo-bai-in Temple, and asked the head monk to come with them.
The head monk peered into the drawing room and said,
“Well well, that’s certainly a lot of foxes. But if you beat or kill foxes, they will come back and haunt you. If they haunt you and curse you and something bad happens, that would be a problem, so it’s best to let them return to the mountains.”
So they opened up the doors of the drawing room, and chased the foxes away.

After all the foxes had been chased away, the head monk was seen leading them, jumping and leaping as they went home.
It turned out that the head monk too was a fox in disguise.

God these pictures are horrible for this tale, all of the others have been enjoyable but this is simply a very creepy style.
I'm also kind of confused about this story, I've watched numerous old shorts about foxes causing mischief but there is typically some form of message in it still. This specific version had no message or meaning. So I'm wondering why this one exists because all of the other articles have been along the lines of "be nice to people" and "don't be greedy".
Oh well, guess a fox will do what a fox will do.
