Hobbs & Shaw Trailer Revs Up Jason Statham And Dwayne Johnson’s Fast Spin-Off
Ever since he thundered his way into Fast Five, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Agent Hobbs hijacked the Fast & Furious series and steered it into bigger, ballsier, battier territory. Then along came Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw in Fast & Furious 7, adding an extra nitrous boost to proceedings. Their considerable star power is such that the duo are now busting out of the main Fast ‘continuity’ (we use that term very loosely) for Hobbs & Shaw – a spin-off that teams the action icons against Idris Elba’s baddie Brixton. The first trailer has dropped, and you can watch it right here.

As much as the Fast franchise has long embraced its utter ridiculousness, Hobbs & Shaw looks set to take that even further – not only is Elba playing a powered-up superhuman, growling glorious nonsense like “I am human evolutionary change”, but the tone here looks to be fully embracing an 80s-style buddy tone. And there’s also the usual vehicular chaos you’d expect from a Fast movie. Most importantly, the hand-to-hand action here should really deliver – David Leitch, who co-directed John Wick and went on to helm Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2 is behind the camera.

Want a deep dive on the Hobbs & Shaw trailer? Keep your eyes peeled for our trailer breakdown with writer Chris Morgan, coming very soon. The film is due to rev its way to UK cinemas on 2 August.
