Golgo 13 Voice Actor Hiroshi Tachi Partners With Gov't For Safety Video

Hiroshi Tachi — actor, singer, and voice of Duke "Golgo 13" Tōgō in the Golgo 13 television anime — is collaborating with Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to make a safety manual video. Tachi is reprising his role as assassin Golgo 13 for the video that aims to educate the Japanese public about world safety issues.



Tachi recorded his lines for the video on Wednesday. In the video, Tachi as Golgo 13 says, "Even saying the world is full of dangers is not an exaggeration." He also lists specific threats such as "incidents, accidents, abductions, and natural disasters" in addition to terrorism. Members of MOFA in charge of safety for the people of Japan discussed dangers such as ISIS-related terrorism with Tachi at the time of the recording.

In an interview, Tachi said he was glad to have the opportunity to participate. He added, "Through the video, I want [people] to recognize that the world is not as safe as Japan."

The safety manual video is slated to debut online this spring.

MOFA has been partnering with anime and manga for various campaigns for more than a decade. In addition, the government agency helmed a Cool Japan initiative, dedicated to using modern Japanese culture as soft power on a global scale, and it also holds the annual Japan International Manga Awards.
